dtmdragon Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) Late 1945. The dropping of the Atomic bombs on Japan has failed to force surrender. Allied forces are on the verge of invading the Japanese mainland... With its primary fighter bomber squadrons now operating the P-51D Mustang and the FG-1D Corsair the Royal New Zealand Air Force has a large surplus of ex-service and now obsolete P-40K/M/N Warhawks. To make good use of these airframes for other than just for pilot training back in New Zealand the RNZAF embarks on an ambitions upgrade program to bring the Warhawk back to frontline service. The result is the P-40S ‘Superhawk.’ - 2200hp Rolls-Royce Griffon 61 engine. - 4 x 20mm Hispano Mk II cannons. - 2 x 0.50 caliber (12.7mm) M2 Browning machine guns. - K-14 gyro gunsight. - Max speed: 448 mph, (391 kn, 717 km/h).- Range: 650 mi (560 nmi, 1,100 km400 nmi (459 mi, 740 km).- Service ceiling: 43,500 ft (13,258 m).- Rate of climb: 3,650 ft/min (18.5 m/s). +dtmdragon Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 Cheers guys, it kicks ass in the air to! It can hold its own with even the best late war fighters lol
Wrench Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 might want to switch (repaint) the control surfaces to metal; even the Griffon Spits replaced their fabric with metal. Also, the Griffon rotates in the opposite direction of the Merlins (and is much wider across the valve covers), so watch out for torque!!
RAVEN Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) It also had a different radiator and Carb air intake, but I'm fixing that. (Evil Grin) I'm thinking that a Packard V-2250 would have been created for the beast with a 4 blade prop. Edited October 3, 2014 by RAVEN
Wrench Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 4 bladded prop with a Griffon is a given! (or 5!!)
dtmdragon Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) The Griffon 5 Blade Prop would look bad ass!!! Edited October 3, 2014 by dtmdragon 1
RAVEN Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 This is with the Allison Merlin. I used scale 20mm's and they fit.
