Folks

Dillon wants to know what mods he should get for the SF2 series. Lets help him out and give him the low down on the ho down.

I will put my list here in a few, I need to get the links.

First buy the original SF2, it contains many files that are need for some terrain. If you can, get SF2: Vietnam, and Europe and Israel. Also get the mission editor from the 3rd Wire site as well. Yeah it will cost you some bucks but to be able to fully get the most out of the SF2 series, getting the main sim for this series is a must.

Wow, thanks guys.  SF2 likes to have the mods folder on the C:\.  I'd like to use another drive for these mods, is that possible?

First buy the original SF2, it contains many files that are need for some terrain.

There's an original version.  :blink:

All I see on Thirdwire's site is Vietnam, Europe, Israel, and North Atlantic.

Awesome information here, this thing (sim, community, add-ons etc) looks bigger than I thought it was.  Is ThirdWire still in business in terms of active development with any new products on the horizon?  What they've done with NA is fantastic that's why I'm asking.  A big thing with applications is on-going development.  As OS's change (Windows 10 will be out this spring) it's always nice to know our software can keep moving with the times.  Another thing is the mainstream has log ago abandoned quality combat flying games. I cut my teeth on Combat games back in the 90's (Falcon 3.0, EF2000, DID's F22, JSF, Jane's F15/F/A18, F-14 Fleet Defender etc), it's great to be back. Communities like this keep products like Falcon 4.0 BMS going even though the original developer has long since left the building.  I got into this because coming from the Navy myself in it's basic since when we trained in Red Flag this is what it was.  SF's is not hardcore nor is it a video game. The right balance is there and you can add to it like each individual would want, to their specifications.  This is what made Flight Simulator so successful over the years.  Now that Microsoft is out the picture the community over there is struggling to find their way.  Here it seems the community has more control of the basic platform versus a Lockheed Martin or Microsoft chain yanking the program.  If I'm right SF has a more solid footing like Falcon 4.0 BMS.  There will always be some modder that knows the code enough to make sure it works with whatever OS comes out in the future.  Graphic wise the look is nice enough to stand the test of time.  So thanks to everyone actively trying to show me the way in how to get the most out of this sim.  I now have a solid path to get up to speed and the amount of help from you guys can only be rivaled by the GA sim community around Flight Simulator and P3D.  I'm totally impressed all around...

For the record SF2 series is working ok so far in WTP. First desktop that i loaded WTP was too weak to run SF, other than firing it up. Currently updatin a desktop to latest WTP build and throwin a full 5 merge install on that. Reports to follow...

Dillion most of us have been working on this sim for 12 years. There is a ton of DLC planes too. My suggestion, get all the sims first, install them in this order

SF2

SF2:V

SF2:E with the expansion pack

SF2:I with the expansion pack

SF2:NA

Any DLC's aircraft you want.

Finally add the mods you want. Ask all the questions you want, we are here to help.

The last time I was at Red Flag was 2006-2007. We were call sign Disco.

That install plan is not going to work.  I already have SF2: NA installed and configured just the way I like it.  I guess I better go from the bottom up... drinks.gif.pagespeed.ce.9olfNKsCP-.gif

Go into Options.ini and change the Directory.

[Mods]

ModsEnabled=TRUE

Directory=C:\Users\JonathanRL\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Europe

Didn't work.  It keeps rebuilding the MOD's folder in my C:\Local Profile location.

I have never installed it from the bottom up but I do not see what it wouldn't work. I guess as long as the patch date is the same then you'll be fine.

Go to where your main install of Thirdwire is.

Here is mine for example:

Go to

E:\Program Files (x86)\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2

Now in that folder find this file;

StrikeFighters2 NorthAtlantic.ini

Right click on it and uncheck the read only box.

Now open the file and scroll down to options

Now tell it where your options.ini file is stored, example of mine;

[Options]
OptionsFile=E:\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 NorthAtlantic\Options.ini

Now save it, right click it again and check read only box again. Now that file will not be over written.

Now in your options.ini go to the end, the options.ini is the folder where you put install your mods.

Mine looks like this:

[Mods]
ModsEnabled=TRUE
Directory=E:\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 NorthAtlantic
Editors=StrikeFighters2

[screenShots]
Directory=E:\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 NorthAtlantic\ScreenShots
Format=JPG

So what we have here is that in your main Thirdwire install, the place where you do not put mods, that file you modified tells the sim where the options.ini in turn tells the sim where your mods are to be used from.

Make sense?
