Night jump from USMC KC-130

Recommended Posts

Last night we dropped from a Herky bird from VMGR-252. Awesome, we were quite cool with the jarheads from the crew. The whole chalk was heartbroken when we learned that the female crew chief at the ramp was dating another Marine. They got a load of pics from us and as soon as they are cleared to send them to us by WhatsApp, will post here.

EDIT: Only got this one so far. I´m the sixth guy sitting on the fuselage side doing the OK sign

cool pics.  now that you know the crowdedness that is a C-130,  wait til you fly on a -17.  LOTS more space, no matter what configuration ( even with 2 MRAPs on board!) not to mention no guy in front of you jammed into your front!

Indeed we are so used to C-130s, the time we got to jump from an EADS CASA C-295 people was amazed at how comfortable it was. I didn't get to know it since they took me out of the chalk just as i was about to board it.

It was a show to see the whole line of 58 guys lying fully equipped in the assembly area getting up to look at her reaching for the plane. I think they spray some hormones in our chutes or something to keep us from chickening out and we we`re all mad

Just curious does everything have to be cleared before it can be shared? I'm just interested is all I understand no one wants to leak intelligence but my thinking is ... well. It's a picture of dudes jumping from a plane ..

Anyway awesome photo and thank you so much for posting it. I didn't know how crowded it could get in a C-130 ... they look so spacious ... when flying over my house.

It is done usually because our Air Force gets fed up with us and this way we rely only in Army assets for a drop, however, i've personally done it just for conventional air assault but never parachuted from one. I freaking love it, it was awesome when it dove into "tactical profile" along a canyon with ou rescorting Tiger HAP was struggling to keep up at 300 Kph (around 160 knots).

This one is all clear, here is the FB post of a Marine wich joined us as a translator, dont know where are the pics after it went dark, there is one from the door while there was still some sunlight, perhaps by the time of the actual jump they were spoiled or something, they couldn't use the camera flash at that particular moment

Awesome! Glad to hear that the Spanish hookers are giving their escorts gunships a struggle too. You probably spent more time flying in the back of one on that single air assault than I have in three years as a mechanic on them!

Indeed, the Aviocar C-212s we had in jump school were so beaten up one could think they were deliberately neglected to motivate us into jumping. I was the man in the door in one of them, and with the aircraft bumping around (these air force hippies used our jump training flight to train rookie cargo pilots) and the cover of the green light fell of, from between my knees and out the door. Honestly, they fly all day long (I live by the airbase) and their mechanics are allways on them, but air force jumpmasters (we fly with Air Force jumpmasters-instructors during basic, then with army jumpmasters when in the unit) agreed with me that they were more afraid of landing with one of them than of jumping

I love them, people say Cougars are a funnier ride because they are more agile and you can see everything (i sat with door gunners in them and it is awesome) but i still like Chinooks a lot more. Flying like it is a roller coaster in a helo the size of a bus is crazy. We kept shouting the LT flying it "Barrel roll motherfucker!!" (anonimity is great for picking on nearly innocent officers) even as the helo sounded like a sub going to crush deep from the Gs he was taking. I had to brace my MG3 so it wouldn´t smash my Sgt's face.

Fun-weird fact. While the other Spanish Army helos Rheinmetall MG3s (an MG42 rechambered in 7.62 and other tweaks, basically) as door guns, and both our Air Force and Navy helos use Browning M3s, our Chinook door gunners use M60Ds. The guy sitting with that pig in the ramp of the Chinook must be nearly the best or the worst job in the Army
