herd 1 Posted February 21, 2017 F-35s score upwards of 20 to 1 kill ratios at Red Flag in increased high threat environments.

+Gunrunner 314 Posted February 21, 2017 Translation : "We have so much riding on that thing that we are fine with lying a bit to ensure the program goes on as expected." Seriously, it's so over-the-top it could be a Trump speech, that's how you know it's bullshit.

+Gepard 11,315 Posted February 21, 2017 Including Feb 3rd, 126 missions were flown by F-35. All escorded by F-22. F-35 had AWACS support and support by Growlers. As enemy acted up to 20 F-16, which were alsways outnumbered by blue force planes and had neighter AWACS nor EW support. During the missions 3 F-35 were counted as shot down. Not really overwhelming, if you ask me.

Pretty representative of every NATO war in the last 30 years though, go in with overwhelming back up support and club the guy with inferior equipment and numbers. herd 1 Posted February 21, 2017 So what you're saying is, the aircraft is being perfectly implemented into its role and as such blue side is enjoying success due to this. And I'd like to see where you get information on RedFor's support options and whether they were out numbered as Red Flag consists of multiple range of missions and scinarios. And if you ask me a 20:1 ratio in a high threat environment is rather overwhelming.
+Gepard 11,315 Posted February 21, 2017 And if you ask me a 20:1 ratio in a high threat environment is rather overwhelming. A 20:1 would be impressive and overwhelming in a scenario red F-16 vs blue F-35 with equal numbers, without F-22 fighter escort and AWACS. With a support in that oversized scale the F-35 had during Red Flag, one should expect a 82:0 ratio, like the turkey shooting over the Lebanon in 1982. But not a 20:1. To loose 3 birds in 126 missions is simply bad. Give a F-18E or F-15E strike force, a suitable F-22 escort, massive Growler support and AWACS, you will get a very similar result. MigBuster 2,884 Posted February 21, 2017 From the address to congress they really went for it on the red side with as stated countermeasures and advanced tactics...they can also respawn sometimes right next to a blue flyer :) So not just red air but integrated high end defence setup at the same time.....49 advanced SAMs for 51 bombs dropped is pretty eye watering considering the type of SAMs they simulate and have access to. So no surprise it did so well because that was what it was built for after all going to places 4/4.5 +++ etc can't access it appears. The figures are dependent on the setup....and could improve..............back in the early 80s in a different world USAF F-16As racked up 80:1 against F-4s and Lightnings acting as MiG simulators and also hit all the ground targets (was primary AG exercise) To loose 3 birds in 126 missions is simply bad. Give a F-18E or F-15E strike force, a suitable F-22 escort, massive Growler support and AWACS, you will get a very similar result. Missions or sorties? They lost 7 in 207 sorties as the address to congress reveals. Where are the specifics of each of those missions? (ac/type/threats/mission/EW used etc). As the USMC guy states though exercises already run............ you can do a similar thing with a lot more 4.5Gen aircraft if you are happy losing half of them in the process. +Erik 1,812 Posted February 22, 2017 You know MB, you can delete posts or lock threads ramdomly without the another person having a chance to reply - the elephant won't leave the room. I would offer that MB has graciously accepted the responsibility of moderating and as such those actions are only a small part of the assets he provides to this community. We as a group are very accepting and tolerant so I would have a hard time believing any well constructed meaningful post would be removed without reason. Communication is important and all of us understand that but sometimes people with good intentions post objectionable content that is removed for not what was said but how it was said. They are two very different things and since we are all part of this worldwide community I know we do understand and appreciate that. Please don't allow this to become a bigger issue than it is. We are better than that. Heck, I've even been moderated here and thankfully so as in my disgust I was making quite the fool of myself. It happens we move on and life continues. Keep it 100!
