KJakker Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 I need some help finding out how many sonobuoys an SH-3 Sea King could carry. I know that originally sonobuoys were manually launched through the cabin door and that the later SH-3H had twelve dispensers tubes however in the photos below it appears that the dispensers could be reloaded from inside the aircraft which means that twelve sonobuoys may only be the minimum load carried. Ideally if anyone has the NATOPS Flight Manuals for the SH-3A/D and SH-3H that would be a great help. 1 Quote
+Erik Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 This guy in Murietta California is selling a CD copy of a circa '93. You possibly could turn it into a paper manual depending on the quality of the copies. Maybe contact the guy and see what he can do for you. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SH-3H-Sea-King-Helicopter-NATOPS-Flight-Manual-Pilots-Handbook-CD-Version-/322111376683?_trksid=p2385738.m2548.l4275 Quote
+baffmeister Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Some manuals here. Free to look but downloads require a membership. http://www.avialogs.com/index.php/en/aircraft/usa/sikorsky/s-61seaking.html Quote
charlielima Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 If we thought we needed more then 12 we would carry more then 12 since we could reload the tubes in flight. CL Quote

CL charlielima, what did you typically carry while on ASW patrol or while conducting ASW training? I am modding my Cold Waters install because the Soviet Campaign mod has a lot of inaccurate weapon and search stores data for US ASW aviation assets. I have S-2, S-3, P-3, SH-2, and SH-60 primary source documentation but I only have partial stores info for the SH-3. Quote
charlielima Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 (edited) The smoke launcher in the sponson full of mk-25s. A working MAD bird on the other side. 12 or more passive sonobouys. I don't think I remember a whole lot of extra bouys. another 12 would not be hard to stow. The dipping sonar was our main sensor. It had 3 frequencies so 3 helos could work an area or target. Our Airwing had no S-3s. If we did have bouys out for a contact the smallboys, destroyers and frigates would most certainly charge thru our pattern. I don't remember how many channels the bouys had but we unlike an S-3 or P-3 could only monitor 1 at a time. CL Edited November 23, 2017 by charlielima 2 Quote
