Menrva Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 (edited) Anyone interested in seeing a definitive, reworked nations.ini with new decals for all the added services? Right now I have the Russian Air Force added as an extension of the Soviet Air Force, with the new Russian star decal starting from 2010 as historically correct. Basically, it's just the Soviet Air Force that changes name to the Russian Air Force as soon as you select 1992 as the mission date. I have also added the newly reformed Libyan Air Force, and I am planning to proceed this way by adding those countries who had and/or have an air force. So I will also add Biafra and Katanga, for instance. The Soviet Naval Aviation has been added as a separate service. It should have been like this since day one, but TK grouped everything into the Soviet Air Force. I am not sure about adding army aviation branches (like those included in some of yakarov's helo mods), but if I do they will be complete with decals. Here below a quick glimpse; The Russian star was made and included by eburger68 in one of his mods. I added/made the other decals. If I manage to obtain permission, I'd also like to include numerous medal packs for various nations, such as the ones created by Capitaine Vengeur. Edited February 20, 2019 by Menrva 9 1 Quote
daddyairplanes Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 for permissions double check that the original author is a member of the freeware licensing agreement or that they give blanket permission in their readmes. just a couple of unbiased (cough cough) suggestions, add in the US Army, Airliner nation and a red Airliner nation. airliner nation and formation.ini can be found with any of my airliner releases, and it would add more variety to the skies and flight lines, esp as many airlines would get pressed into service or chartered during a conflict no reason why this retired Soldier would want the Army represented 3 Quote
Menrva Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 (edited) Decals for Mercenary, Dhimar and Paran were low-res (128x128) when compared to those of other stock nations. I remade them at the higher stock resolution (256x256). Notice the new, generic Mercenary insignia. It always bothered me that it showed Dhimari colours. Now this insignia is adapt for a fictional Mercenary unit, to be deployed anywhere in the SF2 world. Edited February 21, 2019 by Menrva 4 1 Quote
JosefK Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Thanks @Menrva, I haven't been too happy with my 2020 project having to call the Russian Air Forces "Soviet"... Quote
Muesli Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Very interesting to have an extended (with range/Aggressors as entry) and updated nations.ini!!! Quote
Menrva Posted February 23, 2019 Author Posted February 23, 2019 (edited) I have added medals from an old SF1 medals pack mod. Some tweaking needs to be done, but the new medals seem to work flawlessly... I have made more changes to the _nations.ini: the Burmese Air Force now is called Myanmar Air Force since 1989; Burkina Faso Air Force is named Upper Volta Air Force from 1964 to 1984; I have added the Montenegrin Air Force, the Republika Srpska Air Force, the Belarusian Air Force, the Tajik Air Force and the Kyrgyz Air Force. Tajikistan and Belarus re-use the Soviet Star, as historically correct. New decals for Montenegro, Republika Srpska, Kyrgyzstan and Upper Volta have been created. +whiteknight06604 Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 this is the kind of stuff most take for granted. thank you for all the work you are putting into this. "little" things like this enhance the game so much. 2 1 Quote
Menrva Posted March 2, 2019 Author Posted March 2, 2019 (edited) The stock NATIONS.ini has a bug; // Oman 70-77 [Nation211] Name=Oman_OLD70 ActiveDate=1970 AlternateDecal=Oman_OLD63 // Oman 65-70 [Nation212] Name=Oman_OLD65 Now it's fixed, so the Sultan of Oman's Air Force is selectable since 1959, as it should have been. Also, the Bahrain Amiri Air Force now becomes the Royal Bahraini Air Force in 2002, as historically correct. I wonder how many of such small changes are still needed. Proceeding slowly, but in the end it will be worth it, I think. Edited March 2, 2019 by Menrva 3 2 Quote
Wrench Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 one can assume several dozen faults like that! (just thinking the USAF/USMC/USN all changed national insignia in 1947, as an example) 1 Quote
Menrva Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 After the recent St. Patrick's Day, I added the Irish Air Corps to the nations.ini. New decals have been created, with the former roundel being used in-game before 1955, as historically accurate. 3 Quote
Menrva Posted April 13, 2019 Author Posted April 13, 2019 I just released the mod. By no means it is complete. I have decided to upload it now rather than never. I will make updates and improvements in the future. For now, enjoy it as it is. 3 Quote
Menrva Posted September 30, 2019 Author Posted September 30, 2019 I discovered another stock SF2 bug in the _NATIONS.ini file; the Republic of China Air Force (Taiwan) is always using the late roundel, instead of using the old, correct one which TK created but left unused by this mistake in the .ini: [Nation024] Name=Taiwan DisplayName=Republic of China Air Force Alignment=FRIENDLY PilotNameList=NamesChineseWG.lst RankList=RanksUSAF.lst CallsignList=CallsignsUS.lst Formation.Fighter=USFighter Formation.Attack=USFighter Formation.Bomber=USBomber Formation.Transport=USBomber Formation.Tank=USTank Formation.MobileAD=USAD PilotTrainingStandard=NORMAL GenderRatio=0 DebriefSuccessMusic=DebriefSuccess.wav DebriefFailMusic=DebriefFail.wav DebriefKilledMusic=DebriefKilled.wav SpeechFile=USAFSpeech.cat SpeechTextFile=USAFSpeechText.str There's no call to the following decal; [Nation117] Name=Taiwan_OLD21 It has been addressed in my latest version of the mod, be on the lookout for the next release. The RoCAF is now selectable since 1949, as historically accurate; [Nation024] Name=Taiwan DisplayName=Republic of China Air Force Alignment=FRIENDLY PilotNameList=NamesChineseWG.lst RankList=RanksUSAF.lst CallsignList=CallsignsUS.lst Formation.Fighter=USFighter Formation.Attack=USFighter Formation.Bomber=USBomber Formation.Transport=USBomber Formation.Tank=USTank Formation.MobileAD=USAD PilotTrainingStandard=NORMAL GenderRatio=0 DebriefSuccessMusic=DebriefSuccess.wav DebriefFailMusic=DebriefFail.wav DebriefKilledMusic=DebriefKilled.wav SpeechFile=USAFSpeech.cat SpeechTextFile=USAFSpeechText.str Medals=MedalsROC.ini ActiveDate=1992 AlternateDecal=Taiwan_OLD49 StartDate=1949 [Nation117] Name=Taiwan_OLD49 2 Quote
Menrva Posted August 12, 2020 Author Posted August 12, 2020 (edited) This is a fork of the Nations Expansion mod I have released; it includes only original nations (and respective aviation services) of the Ace Combat universe, AKA Strangereal. There's a roundel of my own creation for a nation which got its own mobile game and flag. There's also the logo of Project ACES, serving as insignia for a generic Merc faction. The rest is based on official sources and references from all AC games. Edited August 12, 2020 by Menrva 4 Quote
Menrva Posted October 15, 2020 Author Posted October 15, 2020 (edited) The developers of Ace Combat recently leaked the official roundel of the Nordennavic Royal Air Force. So, I quickly updated the mod I've been working on with this new one in place of the custom roundel I had made. I might release the package in the near future, though it will only be useful for modders at this stage. Here below, a quick look at 16 roundels of the nations/alliances of Ace Combat's universe, Strangereal (low-vis versions exist, but are not shown). Edited October 15, 2020 by Menrva 2 Quote
