This is the SFP1 series cockpit (version 1.3) for the first mass produced Mig-23 version, the Mig-23M of the Mirage factory. Thanks to Armour Dave and Sal for the cockpit For SFP1 series. For Mirage Factory Mig-23ML. You need the latest patch updates from Thirdwire. Tested on Windows XP and not Vista. Mig-23 cockpit series almost finished (with working Mig-23HUD)

Okay, I added the below entries to both the cockpit.ini and separately to the avionics.ini and I still get the same huge radar image that you have above. I am getting nowhere. The radar image needs to be much smaller and like in the SU-17 below: [HUDradar] Type=RADAR_SCOPE NodeName=Mira ImageSize=0.0625 [moveMiraY] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=Mira MovementType=POSITION_Y Set[01].Position=-0.1 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=-0.1 Set[02].Value=1.0 remImageSize=0.0625 ImageSize=0.0125 [MoveMiraZ] Type=AIRSPEED_INDICATOR NodeName=MiraPadre01 MovementType=POSITION_Z Set[01].Position=0.16 Set[01].Value=0.0 Set[02].Position=0.16 Set[02].Value=1.0 remImageSize=0.0625 ImageSize=0.0125 -
Mig-23 cockpit series almost finished (with working Mig-23HUD)

Very nice! Yes, it needs to be refined like the SU-7 cockpit so that the radar only occupies the top part and is barely visible like the SU-7. -

However, a seeming fatal problem with the Mig-21MF pit is "putting the radar on the HUD" which the SU9 cockpit has (more or less). -

Yum, yum, yum! Thanks, I did not know this. I *like* this idea of using a Mig-21UM cockpit! I don't like using the Su-17 pit either...it looks rather like a B-52 cockpit...a bit big looking for a tiny Mig-23 pit. Off to my drawing board again. But I feel better about it. -

Okay, so to everyone- thanks for all the info, 1) So, do we have agreement that *only* the Mig-23S and the Mig-23MS have the radar hood on the instrument panel? 2) All the other Mig-23 versions have the radar on the HUD and no radar hood on the instrument panel? Thanks, -

Great! I'll give you credit of course! So how do we remove the "can" part but leave the pole part of the "gun camera?" I've been away and will get back to all the other excellent posts and suggestions in this thread. -
Mig-23 cockpit series almost finished (with working Mig-23HUD)

That is an issue. The later Mig-23 variants still had a pole sticking out in front of the pilot for the (gun camera?)...but no attached can. So I would need to draw a pole somehow or just keep the gun camera there. Note "pole" sticking out in front of the pilot on this late model version with the attached "can" missing. The gunsight *does* have a horizontal "grill" (what is that, anyone?). -
Mig-23 cockpit series almost finished (with working Mig-23HUD)

1) They were almost exactly the same (bunch of copy cats). 2) The beautiful Mig-21MF cockpit has already been done and was a base for the early version (not the later one). 3) I am not skilled enough to make a complete cockpit from scratch that is so similar to the Mig-21MF cockpit. 4) The later Mig-23 cockpits dump the radar hood and get a different cockpit with radar "on the HUD" (if you can call the Sovs idea of a HUD). 5) I had a hell of a time, as it was, making the suckers even work with Starfighter 2's 4-5 different HUDs (a month). -
I have almost finished five or so different Mig-23 cockpits with Starfighter 2s Mig-23 HUDs: Mig-23M (First production version-old style cockpit with included radar hood). Mig-23MS (Supremely dumbed down "M" export version-old style cockpit with included radar hood-Type used by Israelis for target practice over the Bekaa Valley-uses Mig-21MF avionics). Mig23P Special PVO old cockpit version with datalinks all over the HUD and including a radar hood). Mig-23MLA Later PVO version with massive data linking and radar projected on HUD and no radar hood). Mig-23MLD Final Mig-23 version with no radar hood and snappy avionics but no data linking. Early Mig-23 versus Mig 21MF cockpit for comparison: Can you guess which is which? EDIT- I found out that this is closer to a Mig-23S - June 1972. Mig-23MLD cockpit- Last production version (Edit-I added this after first post).

In a Mig-23, flying extremely low to your target, is also a great way to fight. You are going so fast, that when you pop up, you can sometimes pick off even F-15s before they can react.

How long can the weather stay crummy...in QC?
ordway replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
In Denver Colorado, we seem to have had several tornadoes a day for several weeks. We usually get only one a year at the most. Now, we are getting up to six a day! It's getting exciting! -
Ordway's Early MiG Pits -Upgrade/Repair Package
ordway replied to Wrench's topic in File Announcements
Thanks Kevin, deeply appreciated! Keep converting my cockpits if you have the time. I'm deep into making the six Mig-23 cockpits and their associcated Starfighter2 specific HUDs. "This is a rebulid of Ordway's Early MiG pits for use in ALL the 3rd Wire Series. It's designed for the following aircraft (and/or variants thereof): MiG-15bis (by Pasko) Stock 3rdWire: MiG-17 Fresco-A MiG-17F Fresco-C MiG-19S Farmer-C" -
F-35 Cockpit Modification & Alternate Loading Screens

What did modifications did you do the cockpit? Thanks, -
Thanks, This was a severely needed plane! It flies great! So the earlier versions did not have a HUD? Thanks, Richard
-
Hi Wrench, someone had that same problem and fixed it. I need to look through my files and see how he did it.
-
Playing around with the MLD gunsight initially gives this...quite striking really.

-
Thanks WLJet!. These are the best photos of Mig-23MLD gunsights I have. I see it looks very different than the earlier gunsights...almost juried rigged looking with the little knobs on the gunsight, etc.
-
Okay all you Mig-23 experts out there, Can anyone provide an airplane manual, or photo of a Mig-23 MLD gunsight to tell me whether its gunsight had the grill on the gunsight or not?
-
As they say in the movies, its a radar screen and its sort of on the HUD (which it should be). I don't have the personal capabilities to do it better...and the Mig-23 is not one of my big favorites to give me enough motivation to do the radar from scratch totally on the HUD (if it is even within the capabilities of the SFP1 series engine to begin with). Secondly, apparently, the radar almost never worked in real life...the technology was too advanced for the Sovs for what they were trying to do at the time with the Mig-23. Thirdly, compared to what we had for a later Mig-23 cockpit before, this is a huge improvement and at a quick glance cannot really be distinguished from a real one. The middle row of switches is there in front of your face and you sure would not mistake this cockpit for any other Sov aircraft with its HUD and distinctive switch placings.
