The Jordanians painted their Starfighters(atleast some of them) prior to 1971. That's because some of the Jordanian Starfighters that flew with the Pakistani AF in the 1971 war had desert camo painted on them. They just repainted PAF roundels on them. The F-104A that was shot down on December 12, 1971 by Flt Lt Soni( MiG-21FL) sported desert camo, indicating it was an ex-RJAF machine. http://combatace.com/files/file/1448-f-104a-pakistan-air-forceex-rjaf-9-sqdn/

Indian Navy's MiG-29K/KUB squadron( INAS 303 "Black Panthers) is fully operational with 16 MiG-29K/KUBs. Additional MiG-29K/KUBs are on order for a MiG-29K second squadron. Looking at the size of the ship, don't think it can more than 10 or 12 MiGs. It also will early Ka-28/29 ASW and Ka-31 AEW helicopters. There are RoE to be followed in such situation and I ma sure you are aware of what the "violated airspace" nation needs to do. You don't simply start firing SAMs or AAA at intruders ,especially when you are not at war with a neighbour. In late 2011, an IAF Cheetah helicopter lost its way and strayed into Pakistani airspace in Kashmir. It was intercepted by PAF fighters, forced to land in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Its crew was interrogated and let off with their helicopter later in the day. Pakistani AD could so easily have fired SAMs and AAA at the chopper to bring it down. Inspite of the bad blood between the two nations, they didn't and followed RoE, which the Syrians in this case failed miserably to follow.

Remember the Paki Navy Atlantique shoot down incident? Quite similar to this, except that the intruder was intercepted by a pair of IAF MiG-21bis and asked to land at an IAF base. Only when the the Atlantique turned aggresively towards one of the interceptors, was the Atlantique fired upon down over Indian territory. I don't think in this case the TuAF RF-4E crew was even warned.

Awesome work Spillone. Would love to see these : Unit: 9 Sqn, PAF Serial: 56-800 Unit: 9 Sqn, PAF Serial: 56-775 Sargodha AFB, circa 1971. Reports from Indian MiG-21-pilots that engaged PAF Starfighters in air combats on 17 December 1971 indicate that the Starfighters wore 'desert camouflage'. It is now well-known that a number of Starfighters from the No.9 Squadron Royal Jordanian Air Force were sent to Pakistan during this war: some of these aircraft were camouflaged, and it is now believed that the Indians on 17 December engaged these 'ex-Jordanian' F-104A's, shooting down two of them and one of original PAF Starfighters as well.

LCA Tejas- Navy flies for the first time
ghostrider883 replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Realistically not before 2018(INS Vikrant under construction). Though the INS Vikramaditya( ex- Soviet Navy Adm Gorshkov) would be ready for commissioning by December 2012. It will be interesting to see what the single seat Naval Tejas looks like. Comparing the Air Force & Navy Tejas Trainers, they look almost same. However, I expect the single seat AF/Navy varinats to be different(looks wise). Navy Tejas(Trainer): Air Force Tejas(Trainer) -
ace, nice work on the indian mirages . however,I feel it needs a couple of corrections. 1) on the rudder, it should be Mirage 2000H & not "EH". 2) the font for the serial numbers are incorrect. Can someone suggest a accurate font for the Indian Mirage serial numbers( as shown below) ?. I tried, but could not find any accurate font.

Instead of being so negative and sarcastic,Stick, may be it would be better to applaud the efforts of our scientists? Do you even know of the difficulties HAL/ADA/RDRO had to face?? You don't, I am sure, yet you insult the aircraft!!!!! Inspite of all the negativity, not a single one has crashed so far, has it? Yes, it has taken time and it will take more time, but it needs to be supported, not mocked at!!!!! Not many countries can boast of indigenous supersonic fighters. Count them- USA, Russia France, Sweden, UK/Germany/Italy/Spain, Pak/China(sort of). While it may easy to curse the aircraft, which has sadly become a fashion today, no one realises how much of work and effort has gone into bringing the LCA to its current standards. The LCA now has Israeli EL/M-2032 MMR( ok, its not an AESA), not long before it becomes capable of firing BVR missiles, has already dropped LGBs. yet you call it dated? You don't need friggin' F-22s to take on the pakistan!!!! Maybe you forget, it is supposed to be "light", like what the Gnat's role was in the 1960s and 70s. The Indian Air Force or the Navy are not a bunch of idiots to bank so heavily on the LCA, are they? I suggest you read Air Marshal Phil Rajkumar's book on the LCA. In spite of all the odds, the LCA flies today and hopefully it will one day in its Mk.1 or Mk.2 variant, serve in frontline IAF/IN squadrons. No. 45 Sqdn has already been earmarked to be the first LCA squadron. Hopefully, more MiG-21 squadrons will convert to LCAs soon. -
