Should I need to look at it. Most of the stuff I need to know while I'm flying is in the printed one. If there's something specific, you can always print out those particular pages, a lot cheaper.

On the contrary, perfect is selectable in OpenGL (not DX as you've said). The difference is the water. There are multiple possible water settings once you choose perfect, and none of those can be picked from in game. You have to change the water= line to a higher number manually. I think 2 is the default "perfect" setting, but it goes up to at least 4 if you have an nvidia card. I think ATI was pegged at 3...

Nothing wrong with that, although I think you're going too cheap on the CPU side. I'd recommend a C2D @ 3Ghz or so instead. Mobo and all other costs would be about the same, just the CPU would be about $150 I think. It would last longer.

There's exactly ONE good thing for me, and that's the ability to load games to the HD so they load faster and play smoother. Other than that, I could pass on the rest.

The point really is, for a variety of reason, no one who really knows what happened can say with authority. We can only have rumors and speculation. There are facts that are easily verified, like the French bringing Rafales at the last minute, but we don't know every exercise's objectives, rules, and circumstances. To draw any sort of conclusion about a force's abilities from an exercise can be misleading at best and dangerous at worst. There's no question the US had the superior forces and capabilities in Vietnam, yet we "lost" because the leadership didn't know what it was doing. Unfortunately the only way to "know" is when the gloves come off and fighting starts, and then it's too late to change your mind.

I fly for whatever side is available in every sim I've ever had. I've flown as Japan, Germany, US, Russia, UK, France, Australia, Canada, India, Israel, Pakistan, China, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine...I can't even list them all. I don't care who I'm flying for as long as it's accurate. I don't want to fly a Russian F-15 or an American Su-27, but I'll fly Finnish F/A-18s against Greek Mirage 2000s or French F-8Ns with no trouble. Frankly, I can't comprehend how people can have a problem with flying for "the other side"...because it's not real! At no point ever in any sim have I been unaware of the fact that it's all fake, so all I think about is "shooting down the guy/AI trying to shoot me down." I never think "I have to kill that Chinaman" or "I'm about to shoot down a US Marine"...because I'm not.

Print that thing out? No way. Of course, I have my original 1998 Falcon 4 binder manual still plus the old Prima Strat guide for F4, and combined with the small one F4:AF came with that covers what I need. I just reference the other manual if I need it out of the game online.

In the in-game graphics settings you have to choose the custom graphics options and then you'll see that while everything else maxes at "excellent" you can set terrain to "perfect".

Co-op mission in TK's sims all share the same attributes: You can only fly and fight with/against flyables, no AI-only planes are allowed. So forget attacking two-seaters. You're always in the air to start. You can only have a maximum of 4 different types of planes, and there are always 8 on each side. Escort missions will likely result in a "fail" because the other flight has to live to fly back to friendly territory, which rarely happens because people quit once all targets are destroyed and that is the same as them dying for your mission. In FE, any attempt to fly the SE.5a results in a CTD for that player in coop. You can fly against them AI-controlled without issue. There have now been more patches than I can recall but this bug has been there since pretty much the start.

Actually, you have it backwards. I don't like the so-called Trekkers whose disdain of Enterprise and Nemesis caused Paramount to back off from the franchise for years. This film is the inevitable result. However, I've always liked Star Wars more than Star Trek (if you hadn't guessed?) so I'm fine with it. Paramount gave a larger budget to this one film than any 3 previous ones combined, so they're definitely trying.

You always learn more when you lose than when you win. Unless you just barely win, almost losing. That can be just as good. You can win with flawed tactics/procedures if the other guy makes a mistake. Then you decide those are worth keeping, while next time the other guy may NOT make that mistake and you're in trouble.

Nemesis was the worst-performing ST film ever, despite being IMHO the 2nd best of the TNG films. Enterprise was cancelled for poor ratings at the end of its best season, #4, which was REALLY good, especially compared to the first 2. Paramount learned "catering to Trekkies" = "losing $$ on every ST thing we do". So they've made an ST film for people that AREN'T into ST. Paramount would rather have every non-ST fan be a fan of this new one and lose every "loyal" ST fan at this point because there are so many more non-fans they could make a ton of $$ off of them. Clarke put life on Jupiter in 2010. It was basically airborne versions of sea life like jellyfish and sharks and such but weighing next to nothing. Interesting concept we'll likely not be able to prove or disprove any time soon.
