To give TK some credit, he did give us the P-51D as a flyable prop plane which gave modders a starting place for WWII aircraft and some folks here have done some amazing work for that era. You can put yourself together some very nice WWII action but you need to invest some time into researching, downloading and installing the various mods.
But, yes, IL-2 and CFS3 were built as WWII sims from the ground up and have the advantages of things like multiple crew positions. I like both as well with IL-2 taking a slight advantage as it covers more theaters. CFS3 by default is a European Theater sim. The other great thing about IL-2 1946 is you can get it at GOG.COM for a song. There are some really well done mods for both IL-2 and CFS3. One of my favorites is Mediterranean Air War (MAW) for CFS3. It looks like it is still available here. http://www.mrjmaint.com/MAW1.31/ Apply your usual cautions to downloading files from anywhere. These files were good the last time I did a download but things change.
