  1. Professor Google is the saving grace of research these days. Of course, one does still have to be careful of which source you use and reference.
  2. I agree. I found it much simpler to just wait a bit for the WWII stuff. Pre-patch WWII works fine. I tried making a prop period install out of FE, but that didnt' work very well at all and the weapons were totally hosed. so I'll wait for TK to make a prop version. Of course, the third party models will still probably all need to be updated at that time.
  3. I've left my WWII installs without the Sep patch for now. Works great........... "all your base are belong to us Sorry couldn't resist. " oh you didn't say that....... (now I have to clean all that coffee off of my monitor......)
  4. I'm on XP, but my weapons editor problem is now solved by running it from with the 7z zipped file. That does work. running within the system directory (any) had no effect. now its the mission editor that's crashed............
  5. GPA is absolutely a key and overriding parameter in selections. As will be class standing when in flight training. Most important thing, however, is to choose the major that you like the most and can see yourself working in for decades to come (because you might be!!). That will usually result in the higher grades. The 3.0 music major might be folding towels (supply). on the other hand, in my last fleet squadron I had a music major NFO working for me! "What kind of instructors did YOU have...I can't remember half that crap myself." when I walked out to the plane as the instructor - I had a cheat sheet with me to grill the student. 'cause I didnt' remember half that stuff myself either!!!
  6. E-2/E-3? the advent of airborne early warning is certainly a major advance. not to mention electronic warfare
  7. quite a lot of my AFROTC class ended up in silo's, including several who started out with pilot slots. That week they needed missilers. Which is why, in '73, when the USN offered me an NFO slot - it was sayonara to the AF and they were at that time happy to transfer me (out of ground transportation administration.............) and oh by the way, of the 45 of us who started out in Navy AOCS class 24-73 - about 20 of us got our wings in the pilot or NFO track. And 18 of us survived the first tour.
  8. beans for chow did help a bit.....................
  9. nope. fairy tales. pure fantasy after too many beers.......... I've never seen any of them get over a certain speed (not further mentioned) that is no where near the fantasies you hear. For general purposes - the 33 knot range is correct whether nuke or conventionally powered. "Nuclear carriers were required to be able to generate enough wind to launch aircraft no matter what the wind conditions." All carriers can do that and I have not only been launched from anchor in zero wind conditions, I've been shot downwind.
  10. the bottom line is that it really doesn't matter that much which service, agency or company and which airplane you get into, front seat or back!!
  11. the same thing happened to me, actually. I was in AFROTC, but the AF had a different visual standard for their WSO than the Navy had for NFO's. Long story short - I've never regretted the switch!
  12. oh? not unless an awful has changed in the last couple of years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (how much of the Navy and Marine Corps flies - and in the front (left) seat?)
  13. I read somewhere that the intent was just to give them some additional control during the landing phase. It didn't carry enough fuel for anything else.

  17. think - nuclear Mavericks!
  18. get his permission and then post your work!
  19. it was a nuke..... http://www.redstone.army.mil/history/syste...ONEST_JOHN.html
  20. "I wonder what SR-71 carrier ops would look like." I can see it now! "All hands on the Flight Deck prepare for recovery of SR-71N's and seek deep, deep shelter!!"
  21. stay away from System Mechanic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. HA! reminds me of the old Honest John where the lethal radius exceeded the range of the weapon. Think about that for a second................ (how fast can you run!!!!!)
