  1. Here's a sample to get your mind working on the Science Fiction trail. The name of the story is "Answer" and the author is Frederic Brown. What you see below is all there is, but it's GREAT!!! ***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Dwar Ev ceremoniously soldered the final connection with gold. The eyes of a dozen television cameras watched him and the sub-ether bore through the universe a dozen pictures of what he was doing. He straightened and nodded to Dwar Reyn, then moved to a position beside the switch that would complete the contact when he threw it. The switch that would connect, all at once, all of the monster computing machines of all the populated planets in the universe—ninety-six billion planets—into the supercircuit that would connect them all into one supercalculator, one cybernetics machine that would combine all the knowledge of all the galaxies. Dwar Reyn spoke briefly to the watching and listening trillions. Then after a moment's silence he said, "Now, Dwar Ev." Dwar Ev threw the switch. There was a mighty hum, the surge of power from ninety-six billion planets. Lights flashed and quieted along the miles-long panel. Dwar Ev stepped back and drew a deep breath. "The honor of asking the first question is yours, Dwar Reyn." "Thank you," said Dwar Reyn. "It shall be a question which no single cybernetics machine has been able to answer." He turned to face the machine. "Is there a God?" The mighty voice answered without hesitation, without the clicking of a single relay. "Yes, now there is a God." Sudden fear flashed on the face of Dwar Ev. He leaped to grab the switch. A bolt of lightning from the cloudless sky struck him down and fused the switch shut.
  2. I was reading this past weekend, and remembered another book. It won't take a lot of time to read. You may remember it as the poorly done movie "Screamers", with Peter Weller. The actual story is titled "Second Variety", written by Philip Kindred Dick. ( Yes, the same one of Blade Runner fame, even if the book is actually titled something else) Anyway, here it is; free of charge. http://www.gutenberg.org/files/32032/32032-h/32032-h.htm
  3. I cannot believe I forgot one of my all-time favorites...

  5. Not having all the details before now, didn't stop the rush to judgment, did it?
  6. Dude......................that was beautiful. Well done.
  7. These are absolutely fantastic!!!!
  8. Right now i use a 37" TV as my monitor, and I love it. I too can be further from the screen and still see everything I need to. I scaled back from 46" due to it eating up too much space on my desk.
  9. 2 Megatons oughta do it quite nicely, and rather quickly.
  10. Catapult my Aunt Fanny!!! Who needs em? Let's just crank it up and brute force it off the deck. Great video.
  11. I think it's been a trying year for most of us, and it's caused a lot of us to have to reevaluate a LOT of things with a new level of seriousness. At least, that's my answer. I'm at a decision crossroads for a great many things now, as I suspect are a LOT of us. I haven't given up on up the hobby that splits being my favorite (tied with reading), but for the present, R/L holds sway, and we'll have to see where things go from here.
  12. I'm sure I was not the only one laughing my a$$ off at this. And then I let my mind visualize it...........................and promptly laughed even harder. I loved this one.
  13. I was already impressed with what I was seeing. I was watching the tri-motor lumber across the horizon and expecting it to get jumped, but when I saw the t-34's in the trees, I figured it would get good. I was not disappointed. I LOVED the ambush!! The level of detail in this game is outstanding; watching shrapnel fly off the vehicles in big chunks from a cannon hit was truly awesome to behold. And then it got better. I was open-mouthed at the Stuka cannon run. That was just a thing of beauty. Once again, I'm struck by the sense of...........vastness you feel when watching the video. You have gotten me hooked....
  14. That was impressive. In fact, the entire scene was well done. I especially like the fact that it was staged just at sunrise, and there was still fog hanging around the countryside. And it gave the impression of flying over a very large area. This was just a great clip, and caused me to go watch some others.
  15. This was fun. I missed a few (I'm not a big TV fan) that were obvious in hindsight, but I was so proud of myself for getting Ash's Oldsmobile from "The Evil Dead."
  16. Thank You Sir, for these photos. It is indeed impressive.
  17. I'm a Super Pack Fan, for the number of choices afforded by them.
  18. In a subject that should be a dead issue, we get this last piece of insulting "literature."
  19. I was thinking that I might pick it up as well. From what I have seen of it, it's some serious eye-candy, and I DO like Harriers. I also have the early access jitters, but I took a chance on the 1st version of SF, and have never regretted it. Who knows, I might catch lightning in a bottle for the 2nd time.
  20. Just..... After looking at some of these shots, I feel like Luke Skywalker riding a tricycle into the Deathstar trench..completely out of my league. But, here I am playing with my very own Brazilian Wax-Job......
  21. Going into enemy territory is always a dangerous proposition. When you have to go in deep and unarmed with nothing more than a set of cameras and extra fuel, the pucker factor climbs. It all pays off when you catch them unawares.
  22. Heavy Metal Ninja. I loved flying over the thick SAM's in the Korea (V3) terrain, and just ghosting in to the target.
