[Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Nov. 20, 2008] by Bob Cox The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter has won its first foreign battle. The government of Norway said today that its Minister of Defence had chosen the F-35 Lightning II to replace its fleet of F-16 fighters. The Norwegian government made the decision following a lengthy competition that evaluated both the F-35 and Sweden’s Saab Gripen fighter jet. A press release issued by Norway’s Office of the Prime Minister said the F-35 was selected on a "clear recommendation" of the country’s air defense experts and that the "evaluation has been carried out in a professional and ethically sound manner." "The JSF is the only candidate which fulfills all the operational requirements specified by the Norwegian Government," the release said, and also was available at a lower price. Norway will pay $2.54 billion for 48 F-35s, a government spokesman told the Reuters news service. Sweden has been lobbying its neighboring countries hard to buy the Gripen. Denmark and the Netherlands, which like Norway participated financially in development of the F-35, are also holding competitions to select their F-16 replacements. Lockheed Martin officials have not yet commented on the decision. They have previously indicated that the Norwegian government is not expected to order planes for several years. No nation has yet placed a firm order for production of F-35s. But Lockheed and the U.S. government are negotiating with Israel for the purchase of 25 planes with an option for 50 more. The F-35s will be built by Lockheed in its Fort Worth plant.

Yeah, the .tod's are just for the trees and buildings. The only time I've seen anything similar is when there was no black part of the alpha layer, for the land part of the transition tile. It caused the water effect to appear on the land as well. I think the stock terrains use them on just the water transition tiles so you don't get the water flowing up hill, but they could be used on any tile. I don't know if it's changed with the current build, but at some point the AI didn't see elevation features from the _hm.bmp's. So if you had a large mountain due to a _hm.bmp, they would fly through them if low enough. If you don't get anywhere, send me one of the tiles and I'll give it a try.

No trees after patch

TK has posted new versions of each patch, and said the missing trees are fixed. http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p...807&start=8 -
Now get back to testing.......

We are aiming for a little higher than it being good just because it's free. Just because we're not charging for it, don't think a lot pride, time and dedication didn't go into it. And just to add to what Dave said, we will release updates as time goes on. There will be updates as the few missing aircraft become available, the larger terrain is completed, tweaks to the campaign, etc.... I consider what we're shortly going to release to be about 90% complete. I believe it's very good in it's current state. Our options were to release it at 90%, and finish the few missing pieces as they become available, or just sit on it until that time.

We'll update this as time goes on, and new models are released. I hate not having the F-117 and the Mudhen pit, but there's so much else to the mod, it's worth releasing now without them, and adding them as they become available. The other biggy I'm going to start on after this first drop, is a larger map. The current map isn't large enough to have all the bases that Coaltion AC flew from. The map I've started will have every base used with the exception of the Buff's that flew from Diego Garcia.

Afghanistan Terrain
JSF_Aggie replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
You can also put a terrain specific ENVIRONMENTSYSTEM.INI in the terrain's folder, and call it out from terrain's main .ini. -
You can do it anywhere, provided the location is perfectly flat. This means you would have to do them in place of a current airbase, or flatten an area via the terrain editor, or Keith Bedford's sfmap program. I assume TK at least thought about doing something similar to my highway airfield mod, because the target locations where already there, and the areas were already flat. It's something I can do, but I gotta clean my plate of my current projects, mainly DS.

I've been watching, but I never saw my Cowboys show up. What's the over/under on days until TO explodes?
-
That has to be an issue with the campaign, or possibly your edits of the campaign data file. Kleinalmerspann is set up properly in GERMANYCE_TARGETS.INI. The position is behind the front line of the stock Lightning campaign. [TargetArea282] Name=Kleinalmerspann Highway Strip Position=449000.000000,317000.000000 Radius=8485.281250 ActiveYear=0 Location=1 AirfieldDataFile=ROAD_AIRFIELD1.ini NumSquadrons=1 Alignment=FRIENDLY
