It's easy to edit the .msn file into what you want. It's in the "Missions" folder, called Carrier_Takeoff.msn, or something close. Open it in a simple editor like NotePad. There will be two lines with F-4J, and you'll need to change these to F-8E. What you put here is the name of the aircraft's folder. There will be one line that has CV-68, that you'll need to change to the folder name of Essex class carrier, SCB-???. Save the file under another name, and make sure it's not saved as F-8E_takeoff.msn.txt, or the game won't see it. If you have issues, I can post the edits tonight, when I get home.

Here's a video. It's pretty cheesy, but it does have some good shots of my sim. Jedi, aim-9's are only carried externally, but there are no wingtip rails. F-35 News Story -

Carrier Confusion
JSF_Aggie replied to Bulldog's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Bulldog, What you're describing happens to me 100% of the time, if the mission is extremely long. It's as if the carrier has a predefined route, and if it reaches the end, it stops. If I use ALT-N to get back to the ship, after completing my objective, I rarely get the stuck carrier. I have never seen a case of the AI failing to land, if the carrier is moving. If the carrier is stopped, you'll see the AI do as you describe. I've tried increasing the size of the carrier's target area in the terrain's _targets.ini, hoping to increase the area the carrier has to rome, with no luck. I've told TK about this. His comment was that he hadn't seen it, but that he doesn't usually fly a complete mission straight though, from start to end, because of the time envolved. -
Flanker, I believe the Major has a dial-up, and keeps it broken up to make sure it gets uploaded. Once it's installed, it really doesn't make a difference. jtin, if you're talking about the DBS '72 campaign, no, it's not in there. This is just the terrain that I updated after WOE came out. I'm waiting on an aircraft to be released to post the DBS '72 campaign that will work with the current patch. It will be here, as it's to large for MajorLee's site.

Jaydon Thomas was born on Thursday, April 19th and everyone is well. I was hoping for a pilot out of this, but I'm thinking he's not going to fit. He came out naturally, 8 days early, at 11lbs 3 oz. He was 23 inches long. Maybe a power forward instead.

atr-driver, I did it by adding 7 extra catapults to the carrier. I was going to see if there was a way to keep a catapult from launching an aircraft, but then you would be limited to four aircraft in your flight, and then if you used ALT+N, they would leave the ship and join up anyways, and not be there when you come back to the ship. So basically, just a "photo op". dwcace, Do you have a widescreen, or standard aspect monitor? I have a bunch that are 1920x1200 and 1600x1200. Tell me what you want, and give me your email. I'll 'rar them up and send them to you.

Campaign problem
JSF_Aggie replied to l_Speedy_l's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
At the end of the mission, when you're at the "Debriefing Screen", make sure you hit "Accept" in the bottom right corner. I believe if you quit the game via the button on the top left, from the debriefing screen, your campaign will not be saved. Beyond that, I can't think of anything else, nor do I remember anyone else posting a similar problem, but I could be wrong. I play campaigns mostly, and have never had this problem. If you don't find an answer here, you can always post over at Thirdwire's as well. -
Campaign problem
JSF_Aggie replied to l_Speedy_l's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Can you give more information? Which game are you running? Are you patched to the latestest version? What campaign(s) are you running? Stock or 3rd party? Are you saying the first mission works for you, but when you try and go back and pick up were you left off it doesn't work? What happens, CTD? -
I haven't looked a whole lot into all the addons available for Battlefront 2, however, I do use the SWBF1 Conversion Pack for BF2. It has all the maps, characters and modes from BF1. The current release is 1.8.1. Good stuff. http://www.gametoast.com/index.php?name=PN...54ebcda7d137da2

Squadron Editor
JSF_Aggie replied to Nicholas Bell's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Same here. Awesome. How hard would it be to get it to read what you have on the "Campaign" tab for all squadrons in the campaign? It would really help when writing new campaigns, to be able to track the progress of all the units as you tweak supply settings. I would use it when just playing to get an overview of the campaign, as time goes on. Thanks very much. -
topcat, The campaign is 95% complete, but I'm still working on additions to the stock desert terrains. I've got a baby coming on Tuesday, if he doesn't decide to come earlier, but I think this will all be done in about a month or two. Here's a hi-res skin I made from Sundowner's template, for the A-6. Also a simple SA-3 and Hawk SAM sites.

Do you have the weapons pack installed? Some names of weapons are changed by the pack. You'll need to extract the _data.ini for the campaign, edit it, then put it into the campaign's folder. In the _data.ini for the campaign, find the section for the harrier squadron you're flying. At the bottom is a list of weapons types available to you in the campaign. The names must match names in the weapondata.ini. Squadrons other than the one you are flying, do not use this section, and simply go by the aircraft's _loadout.ini.
-
The _data.ini's for the stock campaigns are in one of the .cat files in the flight directory, Mission_Data.cat I think. You need the cat extractor to get to it, which is available here in the Utilities/Editors section. There is a DBS '72 campaign I made for the Bering Straits terrain here. It does not work properly with the latest patch because the ground object format changed, and campaign code no longer behaves when you define more than 2 "Forces". At some point I'm going to update it, but you can still look at the campaign files for ideas. If it's to big of a download just to check out the campaign files, let me know and I'll email you just the .ini files.

GreyCap, If you're having trouble, I would start with something a little smaller, like installing one aircraft, and make sure you get that to work for you in "SINGLE MISSION". Even before that, have a quick read through the Knowledge Base here. I wouldn't expect you to read through everything in one sitting, but at least check out the titles of the different threads. Chances are, when you run into a problem, the solution will be already posted there. 99% of the time, a 3rd party addon will come with a README specifying how to install it. I would recommend you install the weapons pack first. Most 3rd party aircraft will come with their unique weapons, and the README will tell you they need to be installed. Chances are, if you have the weapons pack installed, you won't need to install any other weapons. Really new aircraft will probably be your only exception. Ask questions when you get stuck, but overall you'll pick everything up faster by reading and experimenting with one addon at a time.

Correct. They were on the two X-35's, but will not be on any of the F-35's (A, B, or C). For the F-35's, the "speed brake" will be the rudders both comming inward, and the flaps going down. I can't remember if the LEF's have a role or not. I can try to look tomorrow. In the first pic here, you can see they've been removed. http://www.lmaeronautics.com/f35firstflight/
