    Folding

Chaingun Scores! Welcome aboard the Folding Team :D Posted your first WU! Cheers Beer
  2. A Navy fighter pilot walks into a bar and takes a seat next to a very attractive woman. He gives her a quick glance then casually looks at his watch for a moment. The woman notices this and asks, "Is your date running late?" No," he replies, "I just got this state-of-the-art watch, and I was just testing it." The intrigued woman says, "A state-of-the-art watch? What's so special about it? He explains, "It uses alpha waves to talk to me telepathically." The lady says, "What's it telling you now?" "Well", explains the pilot, "it says you're not wearing any panties...." The woman giggles and replies, "Well it must be broken, because I am wearing panties!" The pilot taps his watch and says, "Damn thing's an hour fast." Cheers Beer

    Folding

In a nutshell "Folding" is a Stanford Universtity Project that uses Distrubuted Computing to accomplish analyzing Protiens and how they assemble/fold. The results are used for Folding@home. "FAH is run by an academic institution (specifically the Pande Group, at Stanford University's Chemistry Department), which is a nonprofit institution dedicated to science research and education. We will not sell the data or make any money off of it." You can find out more about folding at the source Stanford.edu Folding site FAQ's about folding Folding FAQ's "Moreover, perhaps not surprisingly, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious effects, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson's disease." I read the above as research that may cure what may Ail me or my Loved ones sometime latter in our lifespan... OK! ready to fold? There are different "Clients" I would use the Windows version (there is a DOS version that is more effecient (more points) but the Windows Client is easier to use. FAH Clients Here is the client I recommend Windows Client Here is how it is set up the User Tab User Name: put your BioHaz Name here (this is for Bragging rights ;) ) Team Number is 34213 Here is how you set up the Connection Tab (this is for a Broadband Set up), I think you would check Ask before using for dailups. Here is how you set up the Display Tab Visualization Type can be whatever you prefer Here is how to set up the Advanced Tab I put the FAH program in the Startup group so its alway running. Expectations... Ok so your folding what is happening on your machine? The program download's a protien, it starts crunching the protien when your CPU is "idle", when it is crunching the protein your CPU usage is 100%, depending on your machine it can take days to "Fold" on protien, so this folding gig is pretty much a patience thing...once its done it sends the results to a sever and grabs a new Protien to fold. The cycle continues... Here you can see my laptop folding under the user Name Team_ODB, note that we actually typed Team ODB, the cleint automatically put the underscore in. Team Number: 34213 which is the Site Biohazcentral Team, which competes with thousands of other Teams (currently we are in the 300's for position). Working on: line shows the Protien it is currently working on. WU progress: is the Work Unit and you can see it has completed 298 steps out of 400 which is 74% of the Protien. Finished Ws, this machine (my Laptop) has complete and sent results in for 43 Protiens. Ok sent in some WU's and want to track STATS??? Statsman Link Go to the bottom of the page and view the Top 1000 Teams Table You can see we recently passed Team "Dean for America" Wanna see were you fall in Stats within the Team??? Click Biohazcentral from the above Table and it will show... There you go there is a snapshot of Folding :) Cheers Beer
  4. Great shots! I have not forgot about our PM's, just RL eating up the time I had for my CL (Computing Life). Cheers Beer
  5. Here's a link to the file extractor. http://www.retrorelics.net/jim/FilesDL/SFP1E_10.exe the file extractor was a utility that check six came up with. http://www.checksix-fr.com/ When you Extract a file from the .CAT general rule of thumb is just put the modified file in the directory that you extracted from, and it should work. In some cases that does not work (such as the Pilot.bmp) that must go in the /objects/aircraft/ directory. If the same directory does not work, then try putting the file in another directory (and making sure there are no typo's from the origional file name). Cheers Beer
  6. hehe Happy Birthday...Will be watching the news to see what he stirs up! J/K Cheers Beer
  7. Excellent! FLY NAVY! Cheers Beer
  8. Last May the wife wanted a convertible (actually she wanted one for a few years), we looked at Mustang Convertibiles, then she looked at the new Thunderbird (way to much money), we looked for used stuff after finding nothing new, she settled for this...well actually when we pulled into the guy's driveway that owned it, I just looked at her and said "if I fit in that car it was ours" (I am 6' 3" and 310 pounds)... 1999 Chevy Corvette LS-1 Although I have to admit, it did not take take much to talk her into it... :) The daily driver is a 2004 Chevy Avalanche My toy is an 2001 Polaris 500 Sportsman 4X4, mostly used to plow snow and haul downed trees to the splitter. It took me 22 years to getting around to owning a Chevy (now I got two inside one year) thus far I am very pleased with both the Car and the Truck :). Cheers Beer
  9. That is sweet! I can see the high speed USN PHM's running in on the Baku's TF for their poon shots :) Hmm things to ponder... Figure out launch animation capabilities??? Missile parameters like missile flight Alt and pop up manuevers for sea skimmers be edited/added to weapon.ini's??? Over the horizon capabilities??? Cheers Beer
  10. I would like to say hello to the TAW players, Team ODB is similiar in mission, we invite TAW to compete against us and other squads in folding. Check out BioHaz folding Team ODB is currently the Top Squad for the Biohaz folders, first place on the team is Skater though with his farm cranking full speed ahead. Pursuit Group is currently the only other "Squad" folding as a Team for Biohaz. There is a windows client that work good to so you dont need to use the cumbersome Dos windows. Folding is a good cause that uses idle CPU cycles to "Fold" Proteins the results sent into Stanford, they include the search for cure for various diseases that may ail you or a loved one in the future. Read about Folding here... Stanford Folding Page The points scored are shear numbers in CPU and processing power. Got a kick ass machine that sits idle when not in use? Let it fold! CHeers Beer
  11. PM recieved, I believe I used a Font that I got from McFly's Janes USAF site. McFly's Military Fonts I think it was USAFF Code, I may have tweaked it a bit too. If you need a host for your Independence Mod let me know. Cheers Beer
  12. Hehe well I have many clips shot for it, one of my technical directors gave me grief for not having my Cowboy hat shaped (he is the guy who gave me his Black Cowboy hat, so I can shoot the video, it appearently was not "shaped"). I never knew that you had to have a cowboy hat shaped, so the hat is in Houston right now getting shaped, I think he chose Canadian Bull Rider for the look I need. So all the shots need to be reshot with the hat in "correct form". Also I managed to view Kid Rocks actual video for it, it has a Smokey and Bandit theme that I may incorporate (so I need to find someone with a big truck to borrow). I am trying to get away from just lip syncing in front of the webcam and dazzle the audience with a slew of props and semi well acted scenes...(this of course is another issue we suck as actors LOL). The Gunfight scenes were shot using paintball guns, however I need to to a couple more retakes, but the snow on the ground will conflict with other shots I intended to keep. I was less than impressed with Kid Rock at the Breast Bowl, so after the Cowboy Video, I will find another artist to sync to. Estimate for "Beer's Kid Rock Cowboy" is 2004 End of Second Quarter. I know I feel like a software developer, but in their words..."It will be worth the wait" Cheers Beer

    Wireless Networks

While testing some software, Delorme Streetmap with a GPS I was being driven around as the wife hit her to do list, and as my laptop passed areas I noticed that wireless network availible would show up. Here I sit in a parking lot using a Wireless network that does not belong to me...LOL sweet, interneting while wife is running the errounds...it truly is that easy...be warned if you are running a wireless network. Cheers Beer
  14. I thought some of you might be entertained with this. Many of ya know my gaming machine is outside in a detached garage. Here is a shot of my CPU/Moboard temps this morning in a room that was 32°F/0°C. I leave the machines running and folding 24/7 when out of the room so those are working temps, not startup temps. Takes about 20 minutes to heat up the room with a 35,000 BTU K-1 Reddy Heater. Which is enough time to get a fire going in the woodstove. This is on a A7N8X-Deluxe with a Volcano 11 fan and a stock clocked 2.7 AMD. Cheers Beer
  15. Here are some more shots, first pass on the model, skinning in process, wish I could make as nice as models as the others (AD, Russo etc) but it will do for me ;) Cheers Beer
  16. Will do, I pray alot when I ride these choppers (beating the air into submission just aint natural) in for crew change (and this morning is crew change!) I will throw a bunch of prayers in for your girl too. Best Wishes Beer
  17. New they go for about $90, I got mine from Targus http://www.targus.com , if you can not find your laptop email the tech support with the parameters of the battery, and maybe a digital photo of the plug, and they will get back to you (a couple hours and they told me which adapter to use for my HP which was not listed on their charts). Cheers Beer
  18. hehe they took the pic when I was sleeping! I work nites so the only time I see daylight is in the summer time when its light out til 2000 or so. That picture is going to help me model the ship for helo landings in FS 2004 :D Cheers
  19. We made the cover of "Offshore", not sure Sledge, we drilled one that is a world record Vertical Depth of over 31,000 TVD (True Vertical Depth), the world record I think is in the 33,000' range. The vertical depth thing is one thing, Directional drilling is another. Being that I just drive the ship I will need to consult with the toolpushers on that ;) CHeers Beer

    Favorite Sayings

Similiar to the "things that are true but with a twist What are some of the favorite sayings of our members I have several Motivational "Help me help you" from Jerry Mcquire (good for those pre asschewings you are givin...) "Luck favors those who are prepared" "Look out for #1, and don't step in #2" For those counter productive moods.... "Admit nuthin, deny everything, make counter accusations." "If the minimums were not good enough there would not be minimums" "Aim Low, you will never be disappointed" Cheers Beer
  22. Yes it is, its an early model, I am still tweaking and mapping. I am also working going to be working with some scenery guys at Hovercontrol to make it a landable object for FS 2004 (helos), and possibly an aircraft (i.e. drivable ship for FS 2004). CHeers Beer
  23. Hope to have it done before spring, not much of a combant, but some different type of scenery that may be used for a maritime oil war campaign. Screenie by AD Cheers Beer
  24. LOL Good joke NC with a great follow up by snapple (by the way snapple we are still waiting for your first WU from folding :))! Note that no-one was injured in NC's joke, and the broom was left reasonably intact so in my humble and unsolictited opinion, I found a great deal of humor in it. Did you notice the broom looked made of wood and plastic so it was a definately a stealth broom, likely made by Lockheed and the Skunkworks, and probably a gift from her First Lady days. HC is the subject of many jokes, however I drew the line on the Bos'n just the other day when he put a picture of HC and her shaking hands with a Army guy in desert camo in my chart room (his office), the caption reading "keep your enemys close at hand". After all who wants to be doing chart work and look up and see HC looking at ya? I pulled that picture down the minute I saw it..."Its good to be the Mate". I would like to add a HC joke to this thread, however, it may offend some people, so if you want to know "how Bill and Hillary Clinton met", and you have a HC joke sense of humor, and your not offended by alternative lifestyle jokes, PM me for the answer. Cheers Beer
  25. Thats looking great for a pre Alpha! Cheers Beer
