  1. Did not see a POC for their site, I will pick this one at my expense and go for a spin, as for torpedoes it would be interesting to see if a manuveuring board solution works or not, if the targets maintain course and speed, the shot should be easy if the solution is manually plotted; just need to know the running speed of the torp, the course and speed of the target, and of course your course and speed (0 makes it easy). Cheers Beer
  2. CH Products Pro Pedals USB all the way! I am putting together a CH Products Control Manager 3.0 review/how to that should be done early/mid Feb, the CH stuff is a tad high on the price, but worth every penny, the pedals come with inserts to stop the toe brake axis for driving games like Nascar 2003 etc. Cheers Beer
  3. I too am running the 3.10's with a 9800 Pro at 1600x and it looks and runs great. Directx 9b, very smooth on the frame rates. Settings maxed out, vert sync I think I have off (deselected). Cheers Beer
  4. I believe hitting F12 resets the dot to the center, The camera view is what the seeker see's. Ensure the camera is set to view you with the reflective dot in the center of the camera. If you reposition your self in your chair and are say 2-3 inches lower hit F12 and it will recenter the dot, via software. Ensure you do not have the dot leave the camera Feild of view. I use the hat as it came. It works great with FS 2004, and SFP-1, I have ot tried it with LOMAC yet. Cheers Beer
  5. Damn Chief, I want to, but I head back to work today :( Did not get much done this time home with the holidays, finally found LOMAC but was not able to spend a whole lotta time configuring/learning it. Cheers Beer
  6. Cheers ! Merry Xmas and Happy New Year all! A Safe 2004 for all our Armed Forces and friends! Beer and Mrs. Beer
  7. Convergence Zones or CZ for short, ask your instructor about it for ranges. Cheers Beer
  8. I believe that SDirickson believes that because of the 2PL (out and Back Propagation Loss) for the Active Sonar equation, it only has 1/2 the range as Passive. This is not the case. However I would agree that in most cases Passive has longer ranges than Active (so the distractor answer "B" is an inviting choice). A perfect example of a case where Active has better range than Passive (therefore removing "B" as a viable answer) would be tracking a newer Diesel underway submerged with DIFAR bouy's. A DICASS (Active) in the same location as a DIFAR would likely have greater detection range than the Passive DIFAR. Why? The sub is quite (SL is low), and the noise from it is scattered and absorbed, thus does not make the detection threshold of the DIFAR; the Active DICASS has a SL that is high, and can make the trip out and back despite some scattering and absorption and exceeds the detection threshold. Because the SL (the Active PING) is high it can take the 2PL hit on the Active equation and still meet detection requirements. LOL Don't worry if ya get your wings, your NATOPS written Exams will be multiple choice too, with even better distractors! B) Cheers Beer
  9. Yep my great adventure begins in a few hours :), we got gale force winds, the ride in is gonna suck if the helo even fly's (I think they will), then the bus ride, then the sitting at airports all day; hopefully I will be home tonite (late), after a day of R and R I will get with capun and we will try an set some of these things free. The Forrestal may even be part or the package (with known issues of no T/O or landings...) So potentially the new PHM, a first release FFG, and a first release CV-59 before the new year. Of course you will have to install the package your self, we are getting away from me cargoship replacement method I used with the CV-41. I hope to get a screenie of the three ships in formation with the F-4 the A-4 and the A-7 in formation...as a look at what a Naval Modders Game could be like. Cheers Beer

    Callsign Origins

OK back when Fighters anthology was hot, and USAF was just coming out me and my buddy started flying online, we bought 3 copies of Janes USAF from EB (the day it came out!) and went to JCN to sign up. My knickname is Jimmy T (kinda boring) so I asked my buddy what they called him at work...he worked as a foreman in a lumber yard and replied "Biglog", so knowing that we were going to be a flight of three flying from the loft in my garage he became Biglog, I Biglog1, and his brother was Biglog2. Well when we got around to being recruited in USAF for Squadron fun we ended up Ho's, but the catch was the name had to start with Big_ then the next word had to start with a B, so Big_Biglog1_Ho made no sense, so we shifted to the Beer/ Brew crew. I became Big_Beer_Ho, and my buddy Big_Brew_Ho. After the Ho's left Janes USAF Fates invited us to the ODB and we have been Big_Beer_ODB and Big_Brew_ODB, but we have kinda dropped the Big over time. Thats my story and I'm Sticking to it. Cheers Beer

  13. No argument in the quality, however not everyone is comfortable (or has the time for searching for all the components to make their own FD3) installing mods for FS, long time sim types no problem, but for guys and gals just getting into it, for under $30.00 you get the install routine, the carrier, the premade adventures, and the planes. Time is money, my hourly rate is just under what I paid for the title (my time home is more valuable than that in my opinion), the time this package saves researching, downloading, reading readme's, running install routines, etc is worth $29.00; maybe even more to someone else, especially someone without/or a poor internet connection. Free is better cost wise, but time is just as valuable. One could likely download all the items to do the Free equivent of FD 3, but how long would it take searching, installing, and configuring (then making the adventures). I guarantee the average guy with an average connection, and an average knowledge of flightsims, way longer than an hour. Hehe of course I am not counting the shipping time from Amazon! Cheers Beer

  15. OK I confess too, I am not really a Beer. Nice Job Snapple! Your quickly earning taking your 1.0 to a 3.0 for policial correctness and people skills. Cheers Jimmy T
  16. Top Gun I think I still have my kneeboard parking locations for NAS Brunswick, we used them for aligning Inerial Navigation systems have you done NAS Brunswick already? CHeers Beer
  17. hehe well it must be my ABIT luck then... I sent my machine to Preventer (he is the ships SubSea Engineer :)) and it worked great for him, he OC'ed it, then he sent it back to me, well my gaming envirionment is as you know is a loft in a garage, the temps from "greenhouse effect" easily get 80° F- 100°F, when in the loft I run a window unit A/C but the temps only come down to 85-90. I was experiencing lock ups and unannounced reboots. Naturally the only difference since it the same machine and software is the room temps... So I run ASUS now and they seem to tolerate these room temps fine (currently have in the garage a A7N8X Pro, A7V8X, and a A7V8X-X). I swapped preventer my ABIT NF-7 rev 1.2 board for a Linksys 4 Port router :), he is happy (and its running fine for him) and so am I. LOL of course this time of year I bet that ABIT would be purring away in my 20 °F garage. Say Buff have ya thought about joining the Biohaz folding team :). Cheers Beer
  18. So was my ASUS advice spot on???? :) Brew and I will never buy another ABIT. Cheers Beer
  19. I concur with your assessment... Fact 1. I was commissioned in 1987 and went through the NFO pipeline just as Fast Eagle claims (if I stayed in I would have 16 years in service), and my year group is now just in zone for O-5. FE could not make O-5 in the time frame he claims (12-13 years) His year group would be 1990. 2. There is no 13 year retirement in the U.S. Armed Services. 3. The post from the boat he made, when added as Staff here at Bio I was curious if those post were legit, I checked the IP's for FE and they are all from the same IP. Odd so I queried him publically, He still claimed the post from the boat, was from the boat (and provided a detailed explaination of how he did it). Odd they are the same IP he's posted from before he was deployed (boy those Comm O's sure are good! ;)). I don't buy unhithered internet access from the carrier while engaged in combat ops, email yes (scanned), board surfing no. 4. I tried to piece the career path timeline as he explained...first tour NFO, that would be 4-5 years with flight school to LT (O-3), then he says he switched to pilot...ok (possible), so no AI again, but start up Pilot Training as a LT in Primary (then Beeville, Kingsville or Meridan for jet/carrier quals) a year back in school, then the RAG (again) call it a year so that puts him at 5-6 years in service, then back to the squad as a Pilot, likely 3 year tour as a senior LT, theres 8-9 years in the service with 6 years flying...here he is looking at O-4. Where's the shore tour/disassociated tour? At this point he is looking at being a Shooter, an flight instructor, or a disassociated tour, and that would put him at the 12-13 year mark where he claims he retired. Perhaps this tour was between the NFO and Pilot training, that would put him at the 12-13 year mark. But that does not explain the claim of O-5, the claim of retirement at 13 years, or why the IP for the carrier matches his regular posting IP. 5. This whole thing can be settled with a phone call to the VF-143 Public Affairs Officer, being an O-5 and flying with them two tours once as NFO and once as Pilot, surely they will know of him. Do a search for NAS OCEANA, go to their website, under tenant commands VF-143 should be listed, call the VF-143 duty office, ask for the Public Affairs Officer; and explain what FE is claiming on these message boards, ask (for those that know Fast Eagle's Name) if he ever served there, or get the email address of the PAO and send him the links to FE Post, it would be great to hear from someone actually in VF-143 to tell us he is legit or a fake. 6. One of the pics he posted showed a guy with the XO, and said he hated riding in the back (being Fast Eagle) the other guy pictured (supposed be be his XO) had NFO wings...so if Fast Eagle was in the back, and the XO was in the back...who's flying the 14? Of course if this was his pilot days why would he be in the back (if that was FE he was wearing the pilot wings)???OH and one of the pics had a logo from what site it was from if I remember right... I think he knew the gig was up, the early retrirement was a way to not have to answer the questions he had no answers to... Most of the guys I chat with suspected he is a fake just based on his behavior. I doubt he is legit; if I had to guess FE is either a Navy Brat 14-18 years old, or he is a Prior Enlisted Navy with less than 4 years in (who got booted). The reason is he talked a good game so he has had some exposure somewhere to the Naval Aviation Community. Of course if he is legit he could prove it, but his evasiveness shows he is hiding something. He has refused to answer questions like commissioning source and general questions any Naval Officer would know and proudly answer. My 2 cents. Cheers Beer
  20. I am sold, I am getting one for Xmas :), and I think Fates is too! LOMAC and FS2004 should be great fun with this device, I am going to use it for some movies with FS 2004 and the FD3 addon (and a review perhaps of FD3). This is actually similiar to how a Supply Boat Dynamically Positions itself from us, their system is called Fan Beam, but it works with a reflector on our ship and Laser from the boat senses relative motion of the Supply boat process the boats thrusters to keep the boat in a certain position relative to our ship. Cool stuff. Thanks for the review! Cheers Beer

    Going To Eilat :)

I knew a guy from the Janes USAF lobby that lived there before it got as bad as it now, he was a diver at one of the Resorts and had a pod of dolphins that he grew attached to, saw some great pictures he took of them, he moved and I think is in Wales now, I think his callsign was Zebra_AFS (damn been so long I forgot his Callsign??). Cheers Beer
  22. Funny you should ask... Krivak render no mapping Cheers Beer
  23. capun has done a great job tweaking my PHM (done last May) and getting it to work in game. This is a newer improved model (the first one Hawker7 helped me getting in game to shoot). Will be availible for DL soon with instructions on how to install it (vice the cheesy cargoship method I was using)...Thanks for the help! Need to weather the ship a bit, maybe some weld seems and some running rust... Other issues is would like to animate the radar spinning, and the ship seems to stop to engage the targets, this of course would make the hull return to the "displacement mode"... Cheers Beer
