  1. Hunter FGA.9 - No.8 squadron RAF

Hawker Hunter FGA.9, No.8 Squadron, Royal Air Force for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a quick decal conversion of the sublime Third Wire Hunter FGA.9 to enable you to fly a No.8 squadron machine.
This will only work in Wings Over Europe but you can, of course, also make it work in the other Third Wire 'Series One' games by extracting and exporting all of the relevant files. Since originally releasing this I've added Syrinx's fuselage serial numbers for the Hunter and included a nice loading screen and tweaked the hangar screen to give it 1960's three colour roundels.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9 into your Decals folder.

    CREDITS
Thanks to TK for a great little game/sim.
Thanks to former member Syrinx for making the fuselage serial numbers.
And thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  4. Thunderstreak FGA.2 - RAF SEAC

Republic Aviation Thunderstreak FGA.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a 'what if' Thunderstreak FGA.2 with markings for No.31 squadron in a SEA Camo by whiteknight06604.

Regarding the Thunderstreak in RAF service then there is no backstory but perhaps the UK needed some muscle when the Supermarine Swift started going pear-shaped!

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the THUNDERSTREAKFGA2 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the THUNDERSTREAKFGA2 folder into your main Decals folder.
Please note that I've simplified things by using the stock F-105 tanks.

    CREDITS
Special thanks to the guys listed below - great work and especially the flight model!
Thanks to whiteknight06604 for the SEA Camo for his Greek F-84F.

  5. [Fictional] Corsair GR.1 - RAF South East Asia Command

    BAC/Vought Corsair GR.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2:VIETNAM

This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire A-7B to give a fictional BAC/Vought Corsair GR.1 with markings for No.8 and No.20 squadrons of RAF South East Asia Command.

    BACKSTORY

The UK General Election of October 1964 saw a new Labour government slip into power with a slender four-seat majority but this did not deter their planned shake-up of the UK Defence Budget. Whilst many observers felt that the TSR.2 programme would survive until at least the 1965 April budget it was not that great a shock when the axe fell earlier than expected in November 1964 with a bland announcement that a three-month study period of the RAF's tactical strike and recconnaisance requirements would be immediately started as part of a much broader Emergency Defence Review.

The Emergency Defence Review of February 1965 concluded that the RAF needed a more flexible force and recommended a mix of aircraft with a small force of sophisticated all-weather tactical strike aircraft, a much larger force of tactical attack machines plus an improved interceptor-fighter force equipped with longer-range aircraft than the totally inadequate Lightning.

Whilst initially ordered as a replacement for the Hunter the Spey-enginned Phantoms already on order (thanks to an order placed by the outgoing Conservative Government in February 1964) were now allocated to air defence duties to replace the Lightnings in the UK and RAF Germany squadrons. For the tactical strike role it was no surprise that the F-111 was ordered but, like the Phantoms, with Spey engines which soon hit many of same problems encountered by the Spey-Phantoms.

For the RAF's tactical attack role almost no one foresaw the purchase of Ling-Temco Vought's VAL contender (later designated A-7 Corsair II) as it had only just been selected, literally days earlier, by the US Navy as their A-4 Skyhawk replacement. The UK Government simply couldn't resist putting the non-afterburning Spey into their version of the Corsair but, thankfully, this was a much happier marriage and LTV had actually already planned their A-7 to use this engine as an insurance policy and to be able to offer an export version of their promising design. As some sort of feeble compensation to BAC for the loss of the TSR.2 the UK Government negotiated with LTV a manufacturing licence for BAC to licence-build all British production aircraft although this
was more of a final assembly deal plus partnering on all European and Commonwealth sales which actually became quite lucrative for BAC.

Development moved swiftly and apart from minor delays due to the substitution of the TF-30 for the Rolls-Royce Spey RB.168-2A turbofan engine the only other delay was caused by the substitution of the Colt Mk12 20mm cannon for British 30mm Aden (with reduced round capacity) and progress was certainly helped by having the prototypes built and test-flown in the USA and the British Corsairs simply slotted into the very smooth and highly successful LTV Corsair programme that saw the A-7A move from operational requirement to squadron service in three years. Entering service as the Corsair GR.1 in early 1968 the aircraft was extremely popular in RAF service and served until late 1991 after seeing service in Desert Storm.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the CorsairGR1 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the CorsairGR1 folder into your main Decals folder.

  6. Corsair GR.2 - RAF Strike Command

LTV Corsair GR.2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a simple re-paint and 'ini' edit of Florian's (Amokfloo) superb TA-7E Corsair II to give a 'what-if' Corsair GR.2 of the Royal Air Force circa 1975. I did this skin back in 2008 and apologise for it being a bit rough but I just love the RAF camo schemes of that era and slightly later, especially with the 'B' type (Blue/Red) roundels. Apart from adding a screenshot for the downloads section I've just added some serial numbers.
Anyway, Florian's original readme is below and I'd like to thank him for his good work and also echo his thanks
    to triplethr3at and Armourdave.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the CORSAIRGR2 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the CORSAIRGR2 into your Decals folder.

    CREDITS
Thanks to TK for a great little game/sim.
Thanks to Florian for the TA-7E.

  7. Hornet FGR.3 (F/A-18F) - RAF (No.4 squadron)

McDonnell Douglas Hornet FGR.3 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1

This is a 'what if' RAF Hornet FGR.3 with markings for No.4 squadron of the Royal Air Force.
Erwin_hans was good enough to release a blank skin so it was a easy to knock-up an RAF Superbug. This is a fine add-on aircraft for 'Strike Fighters 1' and 101tfs and Erwin_hans have created a true masterpiece  - one of the very best add-ons available and I'd like to thank them for their hard work in bringing this aeroplane to us. Please note that in this revision I've simplified the effects and sounds to use stock files and you'll want to change the loadout.ini to suit the weapons you've got as, again, I've left it to stock.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HORNETFGR3 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HORNETFGR3 into your Decals folder.
P.S. Remember to set your Single Mission EndYear=2010,2020,2040 or whatever in your Options.Ini!

  12. Hawker Hunter FGA.9 'Belize'

Hawker Hunter FGA.9  'Belize' - Royal Air Force for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a very simple mod of the sublime Third Wire Hunter FGA.9 to enable you to fly a 1960's era Hunter with either No.1417 Flight based in Belize or No.1435 Flight based on the Falkland Islands. Both are very famous flights in the RAF but such deployments are, of course, fictional. For gameplay reasons, No.1417 Flight are squadron strength whilst No.1435 Flight are just a four-ship with Faith, Hope, Charity and Desperation tail codes!
This will only work in 'Wings Over Europe' but you can, of course, also make it work in the other Third Wire Series One games by extracting and exporting all of the relevant files.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9b folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9b into your Decals folder.
Your stock Hunter FGA.9 will not be affected by this mod.

  13. [Fictional] Republic Thunderchief S.1 (RAF & RAAF bonus skin)

Republic Thunderchief S.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-105D to create a fictional Thunderchief in service with the Royal Air Force in the 1964 to 1973 timeline. In addition, a bonus RAAF 'anti-flash' white skin is included together with an RAF SEAC skin.

    BACKSTORY

At the onset of the fatigue problems suffered by the Vickers Valiant in 1964 it wasn't only the RAF that urgently looked for a quick replacement. With the October 1962 Cuban Missile crisis relatively fresh in their minds, the American administration led by LBJ realised that a quick infusion of European striking power was required and authorised the transfer of a batch of 39 F-105D-25's from US stocks to the RAF and these arrived in December 1964 under "Operation Hastings" (later discovered to be an American jibe at the incoming British Prime Minister Harold Wilson).

Entering service with No.207 squadron at RAF Marham in February 1965 the Thunderchief S.1 soon also re-equipped No.49 and No.148 squadrons (also based at RAF Marham) and were initially armed with American Mk28 (B-61) free-fall tactical nuclear bombs before switching to the UK WE.177B in late 1966. Due to their relative short range the Thunderchief S.1's were regularly deployed to RAF Germany until the Victor K.1 tanker force had built up in sufficient numbers. In RAF service the Thunderchief suffered from a high attrition rate and the type was never popular with pilots and began to be supplanted in RAF service by Blackburn Buccaneer S.2's in 1968 with the remaining Thunderchiefs being transferred to RAF South East Asia Command before being retired in 1973.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the ThunderchiefS1 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the ThunderchiefS1 folder into your main Decals folder.

  15. [Fictional] Hawker Hunter FGA.9A RAF 'Desert Pink'

Hawker Hunter FGA.9A for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire Hawker Hunter FGA.9 to give a fictional Hawker Hunter FGA.9A fighter-bomber aircraft as it might have appeared in service with the Royal Air Force during the 1960's to early 1970's period with RAF Middle East Command and 'what if' markings are included for;
    No.8 Squadron
    No.20 Squadron
    No.43 Squadron
In reality, all three squadrons have an association with operating the FGA.9 in the Middle East area during the 1960's but I've banged them together as a three-squadron wing and clad them in this 'Desert Pink' scheme initially adopted in 1961 for the Kuwait Crisis and then kept for their extended operations in Aden and Dhimar.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9A folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9A folder into your main Decals folder.
    That's it!

  16. RAF Phantom F.1 for Strike Fighters 1

McDonnell Douglas Phantom F.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a simple mod of the stock Phantom F-4B to give a 'what if' Phantom F.1 interceptor-fighter with markings for No.19 and No.92 squadrons of RAF Germany as they might have appeared in the 1960's. Also included is a No.43 squadron skin.
In theory, this should work in any 'first generation' game that has the standard F-4B LOD's.

    BACKSTORY
The successful first flight of the McDonnell XF4H-1 (Phantom II) on May 27th, 1958 certainly piqued the interest of both the RAF and the Royal Navy and by 1959 both were granted official 'observer status' on the project. The realisation that only two of the Royal Navy's five aircraft carriers could operate an aircraft of the XF4H-1's size (and that only after extensive modernisation) soon cooled the interest of the Senior Service but the RAF could see a promising aircraft of obvious potential across many roles and not just in their search for a Hunter replacement. By 1960 McDonnell were scheming various tactical fighter versions of the F4H-1 Phantom II with J79 engines including a minimum change version of the baseline USN F-4B to replace the Hunter and Javelin in RAF service and supplement the Lightning.
The RAF had already bore the brunt of the 1957 Defence White Paper and had then suffered the ignominy of losing the UK's nuclear deterent in the planned switch from V-Force to Polaris. Following this heavy perceived loss of status the Air Staff were so determined to get the TSR.2 that in March 1961 they volunteered to forsake the supersonic V/STOL P.1154 strike fighter and STOL AW.681 tactical transport and replace both with off the shelf purchases of American aircraft. Both projects were declared as "too technically challenging to succeed in the current fiscal situation" but the early cashing-in of both projects did ultimately save the TSR.2 which went on to survive the 1964 Budget Review and enter RAF service at the end of the 1960's.
Meanwhile, back in August 1961 the UK Government became the first export customer for McDonnell's XF4H-1 with an order for 350 aircraft consisting of 150 interceptor-fighters for RAF Fighter Command and 200 tactical fighters for RAF Germany and No.38 Group. Designated by McDonnell as the F-4K and by the RAF as Phantom F.1 and Phantom FGA.2 the first F-4K rolled off the St. Louis production line in February 1963 with a ceremonial first flight on April 1st, 1963 to coincide with the RAF's 45th birthday celebrations. These early RAF Phantoms retained the AAA-4 infrared search and tracking sensor fitted to a prominent bulge underneath the radome housing the powerful AN/APQ-72 radar and were powered by two General Electric J79-GE-8A engines each rated at 10,000lbs dry thrust and 17,000 lbs thrust with afterburner.
The Phantom F.1 entered service with No.19 squadron at Leconfield in March 1964 and eventually equipped no less than ten RAF squadrons at home and abroad with the last squadron (an expanded No. 1435 Flight) disbanding at RAF Mount Pleasant, Falkland Isles in 1992.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the PhantomF1 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the PhantomF1 into your Decals folder.

    Mikoyan-Gurevich-Hawker Falchion F.Mk1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire MiG-15 to create a fictional licence-built MiG-15 in service with the British Peoples' Republic Air Force as the Falchion F.Mk1. I'm delighted to use Stary's new MiG-15 cockpit in this little bit of fluff and nonsense. Please note that this mod requires you to have Expansion Packs 1 and 2 as the MiG-15 was 'bonus content' if you had both but you could quickly juggle things around to use the MiG-15bis if you've only got Expansion Pack 1.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Falchion folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Falchion folder into your main Decals folder.

  18. Debris Gone!

Are you fed up of debris flying up in the air and spoiling your screenshot, or not matching your paint scheme (or your navigator's eyes)?
Then use 'Debris Gone' and banish debris today!
OK. As an unexpected request, here is a simple replacement for the stock DEBRIS.tga which you can put into your Flight folder and remove flying debris. The original DEBRIS.tga will remain safe and snug in your CAT files so if you don't like you can just delete it and your game is back to normal. If you haven't got a flight folder then just put my Flight folder into your main folder (not in your Objects folder - go up one level).
Special thanks to Migbuster for giving me the idea.
    Regards

  19. RAF Decal Pack

As we're on the verge of wishing the RAF a Happy 100th Birthday (April 1st, 1918) I'm updating my RAF squadron marking decals for you to use on absolutely whatever you want - be it factual, fictual, historical or hysterical. As a keen 'what-iffer' I 'd especially like to see them appear where the shouldn't! So break out the Century Series, Mirages, MiGs and Sukhois and get 'whiffing' and remember to post your screenshots! I'd love to see them!
This decal set is also in the Series 2 section and that will be the one that gets updated from hereon in.

  20. De Havilland Vampire F.8

De Havilland Vampire F.8 for SF1
This aircraft mod will create a 'what if' de havilland Vampire F.8 with colourful post-war markings for No.3, No.4, No.98 and No.263 squadrons of the Royal Air Force.

This is a revised upload that was originally for SF2 but mistakenly got left in the SF1 section when the SF1/SF2 split happened and as I can't get SFG/WOX to work on my W10 desktop I've not been able to test it. I think I've got the reverse engineering right but the one thing I can't do is sort out the rockets and tanks (it's so much easier in SF2).

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. Drop the Vampire_F8 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    That's it.

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
Thanks to Pasko for this superb add-on aircraft (one of his many), Gramps for the skins and also Don (C5) for the FM.
And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  21. RAF Phantom FGR.5 for Strike Fighters 1

McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR.5 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
This is a simple mod of the stock Phantom F-4E to give a 'what if' Phantom FGR.5 tactical fighter with markings for No.6 and No.41 squadrons of RAF Strike Command as they might have appeared in the mid-1970's.
In theory, this should work in any 'first generation' game that has the standard F-4E LOD's.

    BACKSTORY
The cancellation of the Hawker P.1154 in 1964 quickly led to the adoption of the LTV F-8E(RN) Crusader for the Royal Navy to replace the Scimitar and Sea Vixen and the adoption of the McDonnell Douglas Phantom for the RAF to replace the Hunter. However, anxious to improve the UK's trade balance with the US, the UK Government insisted that the RAF's Phantoms would adopt either the Rolls Royce Spey turbofan or the Anglo-French Rolls Royce/SNECMA Sequanna turbofan then under development for the proposed Mirage IVB and advanced Mirage III aircraft. The Sequanna was quickly chosen being lighter and slimmer than the Spey and fitted the F-4 like a glove whilst producing about 1,000lbs more thrust per engine than the stock J79-GE-15 turbojet but with a lower specific fuel consumption.
First flown in 1965 and entering service with the RAF in 1966 the Phantom F.1 supplemented the Lightning interceptors of RAF Fighter Command whilst the Phantom FG.2 re-equipped many Hunter and Canberra squadrons at home and abroad. The FR.3 was a planned version of the RF-4C that failed to materialise as the RAF adopted podded recconnaisance pods but the FGR.4 was the RAF's first true multi-role version of the Phantom taking advantage of the new F-4E airframe and a more powerful Sequanna RB.390 engine developing 19,000lbs with reheat. Only 50 FGR.4's were built before production switched to the FGR.5 with Sequanna RB.392 engines, slatted wings and more advanced avionics. The FGR.5's served at home and abroad, most notably with RAF Strike Command and RAF South East Asia Command before finally being retired in 2003.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the PhantomFGR5 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the PhantomFGR5 into your Decals folder.

  22. [Fictional] F-23E 'Karesh' (Shark)

    F-23E for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a simple mod of Dels' excellent F-23A 'Black Widow' to give a fictional F-23E 'Karish' (Shark) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for;
No.110 squadron - The Knights Of The North Squadron.
No.119 Squadron - The Bat Squadron (with toned-down markings).

    BACKSTORY
With the success of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom and F-15 Eagle in Heyl HaAvir service the Israeli's were hoping that the Northrop/McDonnell Douglas F-23A 'Black Widow' would win the USAF's ATF competition to continue their successful relationship with the McDonnell Douglas team at St. Louis but unfortunately Lockheed Martin's victory in the ATF competition looked like bringing an end to a long and enduring partnership.
However in a brave move, in May 1991 the Northrop/McDonnell Douglas team secured permission from Congress to actively market the F-23 to (State Department) 'approved' nations and offered a single-seat multi-role version called the F-23E (Export) to Germany, Japan, Israel and the UK. With Germany looking for any excuse to get out of the Eurofighter consortium and facing high reunification costs they persuaded the UK to team up in a combined purchase of 200 F-23E's. In return, this led to the German and UK Governments persuading Northrop/McDonnell Douglas to make BAe and MBB prime sub-contractors for any further export sales.
However, with only 200 F-23E's on order Northrop/McDonnell Douglas were not convinced that it was enough to start a viable programme but the breakthrough came in January 1994 when the USAF agreed to purchase 100 F-23A's for PACAF (the air component of United States Pacific Command) and this move finally saw Japan and Israel also join the programme with 100 F-23E's each.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-23E folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-23E folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
Massive thanks to Dels for this superb add-on aircraft, it's one of the very best.

  23. [Fictional] F-104I 'Kohav' (Star) for SF2:Europe

    F-104I for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

This is a simple mod of the Third Wire Lockheed Starfighter F-104G to give a fictional F-104I 'Kohav' (Star) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for No.119 squadron - "The Bat Squadron". As this download relies on the stock Third Wire F-104G LODs then you must have SF2:Europe where TK has thoughfully left them for us.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104I folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104I folder into your main Decals folder.

    SKINS/MARKINGS

I wanted to capture the look of the early Mirage IIIC's in Israeli service and saw a photograph of a No.119 squadron machine with red/white rudder stripes and a red fin marking and decided to copy that. As there are no hi-res squadron patch images for No.119 squadron I designed by own, I hope you like it!

Special thanks to guyran for suggesting the Hebrew name of 'Kohav'.

  24. [Fictional] F-100D 'Shavit' (Comet) for SF2

North American F-100D 'Shavit' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-100D to give a fictional F-100D 'Shavit' (Comet) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for;
117 squadron - 'The First Jet Squadron' in a natural metal scheme.
253 squadron - 'The Negev Squadron' in a USAF SEA scheme (as transferred from USAF stocks in October 1973).
This should work in any SF2 game featuring the stock Third Wire F-100D but has only been tested in a merged install of SF2/SF2V/SF2E/SF2I.

    BACKSTORY
Despite a very smooth test and development phase North American Aviation's superb F-107 unexpectedly lost out to Republic Aviation's F-105 Thunderchief in the competition for a new supersonic fighter-bomber for TAC. By early 1959 the end of the F-100D production line was now in sight and with the F-108 and B-70 programmes now on the far horizon North American Aviation needed to stretch the F-100 Super Sabre programme out to plug the gap and urgently proposed a variety of F-100 variants to several friendly nations, including Israel, Japan and the United Kingdom.
In April 1959 the Israeli government signed for 50 F-100D's and the first of these entered Heyl Ha'Avir service in February 1960 replacing the obsolete Gloster Meteors of 117 Squadron. The 'Shavit' was a popular machine in Heyl Ha'Avir service and served with distinction during the 1967 'Six-Day' war but losses were heavy during the early days of the 1973 'Yom Kippur' war and two small batches of ex-USAF F-100D's were accquired as attrition replacements allowing No.253 squadron to re-equip with the F-100D before finally retiring the type in November 1977.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-100Didf folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-100Didf folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!
