  1. [Fictional] F-104I 'Kohav' (Star) for SF2:Europe

    F-104I for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

    This is a simple mod of the Third Wire Lockheed Starfighter F-104G to give a fictional F-104I 'Kohav' (Star) of the Israeli Air Force with markings for No.119 squadron - "The Bat Squadron". As this download relies on the stock Third Wire F-104G LODs then you must have SF2:Europe where TK has thoughfully left them for us.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-104I folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-104I folder into your main Decals folder.

    SKINS/MARKINGS

    I wanted to capture the look of the early Mirage IIIC's in Israeli service and saw a photograph of a No.119 squadron machine with red/white rudder stripes and a red fin marking and decided to copy that. As there are no hi-res squadron patch images for No.119 squadron I designed by own, I hope you like it!

    CREDITS

    Special thanks to guyran for suggesting the Hebrew name of 'Kohav'.

    And special thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

  2. Beat the Clock! Anti-Runway Strike vs. Scramble

    It's May 1977 and Israeli Forces are flying in support of Dhimar. You are commanding CRAB flight, a two-ship element tasked with destroying Parani airfield P11 but beware! A two-ship flight of Parani MiG-21PFM's from P12 are already in the air and a four-ship flight of Parani Mig-21bis are desperately trying to scramble from the very same P11 airfield whose runway you are trying to bomb!
    It's a race against time. Will you get there before the MiG's get airborne?
    Simply add this game generated mission to your Missions folder. A quad-merged install is required.
    [MissionHeader]
    AircraftType=KfirC2
    MissionMap=DESERT
    MissionType=STRIKE
    StartTime=12:19:44
    StartDate=05/14/1977
    The game generated this mission and I just love those missions when MiG's are trying to get off the ground just as you get there so I saved it. i hope it works for you.

  4. [Fictional] Yak-41M 'Freestyle' Ukrainian Armed Forces

    Yakovlev Yak-41M for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is simple mod of Gabilon's Yak-41 'Freestyle' to create a fictional Yak-41M in service with the Ukrainian Naval Aviation and the Ukrainian Air Force. Gabilon created his Yak-41 in 2007 (his first 3D model - Chapeau!) and Fubar512 improved the FM and those improvements are duly incorporated here along with a few modifications by me.
    Three new Ukrainian skins are included;
    1. Ukrainian Naval Aviation in a blue splinter scheme for maritime operations.
    2. Ukrainian Air Force in a 'Flygvapnet' splinter scheme for tactical operations.
    3. Ukrainian Air Force in a modern (boring) grey scheme.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the Yak-41M folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the Yak-41M folder into your main Decals folder.
    3. From the SOUNDS folder drag and drop both the sound files into your main Sounds folder.
    4. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop all four weapons folder into your main Weapons folder.
    That's it!

  5. [Fictional] Douglas A-4D Skyhawk 'USAF'

    Douglas A-4D Skyhawk 'USAF' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a very simple mod of the stock Third Wire A-4E to give a fictional USAF A-4D with markings for the 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron ('The Silver Knights') in 1967 although the service years are a more generous 1964 to 1985.

    BACKSTORY
    During the Spring of 1961 the incoming Secretary of Defence Robert S. McNamara left no stone unturned in his search for efficiencies in procurement and operational costs and his attention soon turned to the successful Douglas A4D 'Skyhawk' programme. Douglas had already transformed their 'bantam bomber' by replacing the Curtiss-Wright J65 engine with the Pratt & Whitney J52-P6A engine and the forthcoming A4D-5 (A-4E) version was chosen as the baseline for a minimum-change version for the USAF. Designated A-4D (after the introduction of the tri-service
    designation system) the USAF Skyhawks saw extensive service at home and abroad and, in particular, served with distinction in Vietnam where they replaced a variety of tactical aircraft.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the A-4D folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the A-4D folder into your main Decals folder.
    That's it!

  6. Força Aérea Brasileira Skins for Fenrir

    Here are two Força Aérea Brasileira skins for the superb Fenrir uploaded recently by cadeteBRA. The skins are those supplied with the original Fenrir aircraft folder with a tiny bit of overspray so all I've done is the decal work.

    Installation

    Drag and drop the skins folders called FAB_BLUE and FAB_GREY into your Fenrir aircraft folder and then drag and drop the Fenrir folder into your main Decals folder. For reference, mine looks like this;

  8. Parani Skin for the J-20 Chinese Stealth Fighter

    Uploaded as a request by my mate Canadair, this is a simple mod of the skin that comes with the superb J-20 Chinese Stealth Fighter recently released by 'The Insky Group'. All I've done is toned down the white walkway markings and added Parani decals. I think you'll need WOI for the stock 'ARABIC3WHITE' decals. Hopefully, I've got the decal pathway correct, forgive me if I haven't but I don't normally upload skins and I'm a stranger over here in the SF1 section.

    Well done to The Insky Group. More please!

  10. Hornet FGR.3 (F/A-18F) - RAF (No.4 squadron)

    McDonnell Douglas Hornet FGR.3 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1

    This is a 'what if' RAF Hornet FGR.3 with markings for No.4 squadron of the Royal Air Force.
    Erwin_hans was good enough to release a blank skin so it was a easy to knock-up an RAF Superbug. This is a fine add-on aircraft for 'Strike Fighters 1' and 101tfs and Erwin_hans have created a true masterpiece  - one of the very best add-ons available and I'd like to thank them for their hard work in bringing this aeroplane to us. Please note that in this revision I've simplified the effects and sounds to use stock files and you'll want to change the loadout.ini to suit the weapons you've got as, again, I've left it to stock.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HORNETFGR3 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HORNETFGR3 into your Decals folder.
    P.S. Remember to set your Single Mission EndYear=2010,2020,2040 or whatever in your Options.Ini!

  11. Eagle F.1 RAF Binbrook

    McDonnell Douglas Eagle F.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 1
    This is a simple mod of the stock F-15A Eagle to give a 'what if' Eagle F.1 interceptor fighter with markings for No.5 and No.11 squadrons of No.11 Group of the RAF as they might have appeared in the late 1970's.
    This mod will only work with 'Wings Over Europe'. If you have 'Wings Over Israel' then it can be hacked into shape by a little bit of editing to point to the appropriate stock 'Baz' LOD's and files and also swapping the Skyflash missiles for Sparrows in the loadout.ini.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the EagleF1 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    That's it!

  12. [Fictional] General Dynamics F-111A 'Early TAC'

    General Dynamics F-111A 'Early TAC' for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a very simple mod of the superb F-111A by FastCargo to represent a fictional 'earlier timeline' version of the F-111A entering service in 1965 with service years restricted to 1965 to 1967 inclusive.

    BACKSTORY
    Perhaps the three technical breakthroughs that came together to make the F-111A (the swing-wing, the afterburning turbofan and solid-state devices) came together just that little bit earlier leading to the corresponding earlier drafting of SOR-183 and the resultant TFX competition thus predating McNamara and the distraction of 'commonality' and the Naval F-111B.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    Firstly, please make sure you've got the F-111 SuperVarkPack for the tanks and weapons bay mounted gun. Got it? Good!
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-111A_TAC folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-111A_TAC folder into your Decals folder.
    3. From the SOUNDS folder drag and drop the TF30_DRY AND TF30_WET files into your Sounds folder.
    That's it!

    CREDITS
    As always, big thanks to Third Wire for the continuous improvement of a great little game/sim.
    Massive thanks to FastCargo for the full and complete F-111 family. The F-111 Super Vark Pack by FastCargo gives comprehensive thanks to everyone who has played a part and his credits include thanks to Norman Knight for the F-111 pit.

  13. [Fictional] Republic F-7C Thunderstorm

    Republic F-7C Thunderstorm for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a very simple mod of the stock MiG-23ML/P to give a fictional Republic F-7C Thunderstorm in service with the 428th and 429th Tactical Fighter Squadrons in the Vietnam SEA style skin with 'Combat Lancer' rudder flashes.
    The USAF SEA style scheme is a lucky find as it's one of the stock Czech camo schemes! Thanks TK!

    BACKSTORY
    During late 1958 the Langley Laboratory made the breakthrough that led to the realisation of a valid variable-sweep wing and by early 1959 Tactical Air Command (TAC) could see that this massive technological breakthrough could be the key to help them in their search for a tactical strike fighter to replace both the F-100 Super Sabre and the F-105 Thunderchief. Pretty soon however the numerical values for unrefuelled range and payload that TAC had attached to their mission requirements had the effect of turning all the paper studies from F-105 sized machines to much larger tactical bombers with a corresponding increase in cost and price and this reduced affordability was of great concern to TAC.
    In the Autumn of 1959 TAC wisely decided to split their requirement into a smaller tactical fighter to replace the F-100 and a larger tactical bomber to replace the F-105, B-57 and B-66. The larger aircraft would evolve into Specific Operational Requirement No.183 that would launch the important TFX (tactical fighter experimental) programme and eventually lead (via a tortuous route) to the outstanding but highly compromised F-111 family whilst the smaller aircraft would lead to Specific Operational Requirement No.182 or TAX (tactical aircraft experimental).
    Issued in March 1960 SOR182 called for a single-seat tactical fighter aircraft with “reduced dependence of paved runways” and with “the ability to carry a nuclear bomb at supersonic speed at tree-top height”. Requests for Proposals were immediately sent out to industry and Republic Aviation’s proposal soon gained the support of TAC by virtue of its use of a variable-sweep wing but also by the use of the existing J75 turbojet and F-105 avionics. With the end of F-105 production on the horizon Republic Aviation pushed hard for SOR182/TAX and in February 1961 they were rewarded with a contract for 24 prototype and pre-production YF-110 aircraft and 400 production F-110A machines and Republic wasted no time in bestowing the name of ‘Thunderstorm’ to the latest of their long line of fighter aircraft.

    Republic Aviation were fortunate in being awarded the contract before Secretary of Defence Robert S. McNamara had got into his stride and the programme largely escaped McNamara and his whiz-kids. Development moved swiftly and during 1962 the programme was re-designated F-7 under the new tri-service designation scheme and the first prototype took to the air on December 22nd 1962 a full year ahead of the F-111A. Entering service in June 1965 the F-7A was followed by the F-7B two-seat trainer version and the more advanced F-7C version that first deployed to Vietnam in March 1968 when a two-squadron wing transferred to Takhli Royal Thia AFB, Thailand in a deployment called ‘Combat Lancer’.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-7C folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-7C folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!

  14. [Fictional] Saab Draken F.1

    Saab Draken F.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a 'what if' Saab Draken F.1 with markings for No.56 and No.74 squadrons of the Royal Air Force as they might of appeared in the 1960's in service with RAF Fighter Command.
    I've used the excellent Draken J35D 'David' from the Draken pack uploaded at CombatACE by lindr2 to create this 'what if' RAF Draken but heartily recommend the Draken pack which has no less than 8 Drakens and is a superb effort by all concerned.
    Apart from a simple bit of overspray onto the superb Bare Metal Skin I've simply used my decals to create RAF Drakens for No.56 sqd (The Firebirds) and No.74 sqd (The Tigers) and these two squadrons were never far away from each other during that era. I've tweaked the data.ini and also the loading.ini to give RAF style loadouts and also used the stock Su-7 drop tanks which are a good match.
    The Draken itself was an amazing achievement and has a similar WOW factor to the contempory 'Century Series' of fighters - you just cannot believe it first flew in 1955... it just looks so cool! As much as I love the English
    Electric Lightning you must remember that the Draken had half the power but effectively did the same job plus another half-a-dozen! In addition, it cost dramatically less and it certainly required a fraction of the maintenance man-hours!
    Suggested further reading - Saab Draken (chapter) 'Early Supersonic Fighters of the West' (Bill Gunston)

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the DrakenF1 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the DrakenF1 folder into your main Decals folder.
    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the Firestreak1 folder into your Weapons folder.

    CREDITS
    I've lifted these credits from the Draken pack and also from the skin I've used. If I've left anyone out then please accept my apology and do not hesitate to contact me to allow me to amend this download.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the ThunderstrikeS2 folder into your Aircraft folder.

    COCKPIT
    Please note that this mod uses a slightly modified stock Phantom pit with the pilot position altered and the air-to-air modes disabled. Cockpits and Avionics are not my thing so I'm open minded to any suggestions for improvements but please note that I do like to make my mods as simple as possible so rivet counters need not apply.

  20. Avro Canada CF-103 Archer

    Avro Canada CF-103 Arrow for Strike Fighters 1
    This is a simple mod of the excellent Shenyang F-8IIM 'FinBack-B' brought to us by Erwin_Hans back in 2008 to make a fictional Canadian cold-war interceptor with markings for the following RCAF squadrons;
    No.409 Squadron (Blue & Yellow Rudder Stripes)
    No.410 Squadron (Red & White Rudder Stripes)
    No.414 Squadron (Black & Red Rudder Stripes)
    No.416 Squadron (Black & Yellow Rudder Stripes)
    No.425 Squadron (Black & Silver Rudder Stripes)

    N.B. 1960's RCAF markings are a bit of a challenge as they changed so often so I've just gone for a mid-1960's snapshot!

    BACKSTORY
    Serving with no less that nine front-line RCAF squadrons at its peak in the mid-1950's, the Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck provided all-weather defense against Soviet intruders and the four Canuck squadrons based in Europe from 1956 to1962 were, for some time, the only NATO fighters capable of operating in zero visibility and poor weather conditions. However, recognising the fact that the Soviet Union was working on newer jet-powered bombers the RCAF began looking for a missile-armed replacement for the CF-100 even before it had entered service and in January 1953 the RCAF's All-Weather Interceptor Requirements Team submitted a report to the Canadian Government outlining their requirements.
    In response, Avro Canada came up with three distinct proposals;
    1. A subsonic CF-100 development with a thinner swept wing and tail surfaces and with external missile stores (CF-100S).
    2. A single-seat supersonic delta-winged aircraft with twin engines and external missile stores (CF-103).
    3. A large two-seat supersonic delta-winged aircraft with twin engines and an internal missile bay (CF-105).

    After a full year of reviewing Avro Canada's proposals the RCAF announced in February 1954 that they considered that the CF-103 represented the optimum balance between cost, efficacy and in-service date and requested that Avro Canada should be awarded a production contract for 200 CF-103's. To keep costs down the RCAF stipulated the use of two key 'off the shelf' items; the Hughes MA-1 fire control system (from the Convair F-102A) and the Rolls-Royce Avon afterburning turbojet (from the English Electric Lightning). Whilst both items were actually still under development themselves, they were considered to be a safer choice than any home-grown paper project and likely to reach maturity for the projected in-service date of 1960. The only area of risk was the decision to arm the CF-103 with the radical British ADEN 230 twin-barreled cannon in a streamlined semi-conformal installation carrying the cannon and with a 500 round ammunition drum stored immediately above and inside the fuselage.
    The CF-103 used the then fashionable delta-wing configuration but with slab tailplanes and, in order to house a large radar set, the CF-103  used a solid nose with variable geometry air intakes on the fuselage with intake ramps and splitter plates which proved to be a perfect match for the Avon RB.146 turbojet engines each rated at 12,500 lbs thrust dry and 16,500 lbs thrust with afterburner. The aircraft was intended to be built directly from the production line thus skipping the traditional hand-built prototype phase and luckily very little re-design was required as testing progressed. On October 4th 1957, the same day as the launch of Sputnik 1, the first CF-103A was rolled out at Avro Canada's facility at Malton, Ontario eventually making it's first flight on December 30th, 1957 with Chief Development Test Pilot Janusz Zurakowski at the controls. Flight testing quickly demonstrated excellent handling and overall performance, reaching Mach 2.1 in level flight. Development was slowed slightly due to problems with the Hughes MA-1 Fire Control System and the ADEN 230 twin-barreled cannon but the first two CF-103A's entered service with No.425 Squadron on August 15th, 1961 in a ceremony at RCAF Namao, Alberta becoming fully operational by the end of the year.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the Aircraft folder drag and drop the CF-103A and CF-103B folders into your Aircraft folder.
    That's it! But why are there two aircraft?
    Firstly, I wanted to show this aircraft with AIM-4D Falcons so chose the CF-103A for that but to get Falcons to appear in 1963 I've had to use 'USAF' as the nation name in both the data.ini and textureset.ini which allows a 1963 in service date instead of the 1966 (the allowable export year of the AIM-4D).
    Secondly, I like the look of the black intakes used on the CF-103B which are an affectionate nod towards the mighty CF-105 Arrow. So all five CF-103B skins have black intakes whilst the CF-103A has grey intakes and the continuous 'cheat line' but you can swap things around to suit your own preferences.

    Thanks to TK for a great little game/sim.
    Enormous thanks to Erwin_Hans, olo007 and 101tfs and the Inksy Group for bringing us the Shenyang F-8IIM.

  21. [Fictional] Hawker Hunter FGA.9B

    Hawker Hunter FGA.9B for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2

    This is a very simple mod of the Third Wire Hawker Hunter FGA.73 (a DLC) to give a fictional Hawker Hunter FGA.9B fighter-bomber aircraft as it might have appeared in service with the Royal Air Force during the 1972-1979 timeline with the tactical markings of that era. No.45 and No.58 Squadrons actually did operate a mix of Hunter F.6's and FGA.9's during the early-mid 1970's so I've used these two squadrons but given them a slightly more advanced 'six pylon' version of the Hunter and with scabbed-on countermeasures. Also included (as a request) is a SEAC skin with markings for No.28 Squadron who operated Hunters out in the Far East during the 1960's.

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9B folder into your Aircraft folder.

    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the HunterFGA9B folder into your Decals folder.

    3. From the WEAPONS folder drag and drop the AIM-9K folder into your Decals folder.

    The AIM-9K is a fictional UK version of the AIM-9G simply created to enable you to carry four Sidewinders without also opening up those pylons to the full range of NATO weapons as I wanted to keep the weapons UK only.

  22. [Fictional] AMD/BAC Taranis FGA.1

    AMD/BAC Taranis FGA.1 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
    This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire Kfir C1 to give a fictional AMD/BAC Taranis FGA.1 fighter-bomber with markings for No.1, No.6 and No.54 squadrons of the Royal Air Force in the late
    1960's and 1970's.
    BACKSTORY
    The RAF's search for a Hunter replacement took many twists and turns but by 1962 the focus had come back to a more basic and austere fighter-bomber but still with supersonic performance.
    Dassault had previously proposed the promising Avon-Mirage (first flown in February 1961) to the RAF and had also unsuccessfully offered it to both Australia and Switzerland but by 1963 Rolls-Royce and SNECMA were offering their outstanding Sequanna turbofan to Dassault with the potential for 12,000lbs of dry thrust and 18,000lbs with reheat.
    However it was not until the cancellation of the TSR.2 in April 1965 that BAC and Dassault could formally combine to offer a version of the Mirage IV delta-winged bomber to the RAF and also the
    proposed Mirage 'Angleterre' fighter-bomber, both powered by the Sequanna and both immediately accepted by the UK Labour government with a formal order issued in 1965. BAC's involvement was
    clearly politcal (and initially confined to the production of the UK versions of both aircraft) the BAC Warton team threw themselves into both projects being just grateful to actually have something
    on the assembly line after the Lightning.
    Whilst based on the proposed Mirage V (to meet an Israeli requirement for a simplied Mirage III) the Sequanna powered version of the Mirage required slightly larger intakes and also an additional air
    inlet installed at the base of the vertical stabilizer for additional cooling air needed for the SNECMA designed afterburner. In June 1965 the 'Taranis' name was bestowed upon the aircraft and development moved swiftly during 1965 and 1966 culminating with René Bigand flying the first prototype from Istres in early December 1966 whilst the second prototype flew from Warton in the following March flown by Roland Beamont.
    The Taranis entered service with EC 1/2 'Cigognes' Armée de l'Air in August 1968 and with No.1 Squadron of the Royal Air Force in January 1969.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the TARANIS_FGA1 folder into your Aircraft folder.
    2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the TARANIS_FGA1 folder into your Decals folder.
    That's it!
