  1. Mike, You'll be pleased to know we are rebuilding the American squadrons, especially the 94th. Don't know when it will be ready, but the Yanks are coming!!! Cheers, shredward
  2. That's the thing - Bristol Fighters were not just two-seaters going about their business - hence the 'Fighter' in Bristol Fighter. They were crack crews, and they were out for blood. They had great machines, and they exploited their abilities, and as Stachel pointed out, they were feared by German fighter pilots above all else. For a reason. Cheers, shredward
  3. Picked this up through our sister forum: http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-12/1114844/Camel1-1.jpg http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-12/1114844/Camel2-1.jpg It's from the late Chaz Bowyer's 'Sopwith Camel: King of Combat' Cheers, shredward
  4. We could tell you, but then we'd have to shoot you but look at the skin - that should give you a great big hint
  5. Clearly, you need to get closer. When you can smell his drawers, you are almost close enough. Quote from the father of air fighting: "I fly close to my man, aim well...and of course he goes down" I wish I had the quote in German shredward
  6. Yeates flew Camels with 46 Sqn through most of 1918; his Flight Leader was Donald MacLaren. His book takes you inside his head, and lets you feel the emotions, and the fear of a pilot at the Front better than any book I can think of. Absolutely required reading. Cheers, shredward
  7. Zose clever Froggy's!!! Zey have seen through our camouflage and discovered our brilliantly disguised Turkish Bad and leather shop. Now zey vill no doubt take fotos and zend zem to our gute Frauen!!! Acchhh!
  8. One of my faves, though I haven't gone through all of them yet: there are several hundred Belgian beers, and nearly all of them, other than the ones for the massmarket, are to die for. The last authentic Tripel Style Beer brewed in Bruges Straffe Hendrik was an authentic Bruges' Tripel beer: a strong and rich beer with lots of flavours (malt, caramel and hop) and 9% abv. In the past, lots of Bruges' breweries produced a Tripel Style Bruges' Ale, a "Brugse Tripel". In fact, it was a local speciality. Today, Straffe Hendrik is the last authentic Bruges' Tripel Beer. In 1988, the label was transfered to another brewery and the production in Bruges decreased until it stopped completely. In 2008, exactly 20 years later, Xavier Vanneste brought the label back to Bruges. Ever since, Straffe Hendrik is being brewed in Bruges according to the original recipe and enjoyes once again an excellent reputation amongst the people of Bruges who have "their Tripel" back. Straffe Hendrik, a rich bitter ale Straffe Hendrik is being brewed with a subtle mixture of 6 different kinds of malt. The taste is strong with a lot of hop (Saaz and Styrian Golding) of the best quality. The second fermentation in the bottle assures a longer shelf life. Straffe Hendrik is a very rich beer with lots of flavours. Cheers
  9. All of the wonderful creations Over Flanders Fields of course. Actually, my beloved Tripe. Cheers, shredward
  10. Not gonna touch that one. If one has an axe to grind, you can make the case, with stats to prove it, for almost any ace, either up or down. It's fashionable in certain corners to bash Bishop, just as it's fashionable in other corners to elevate some to Zeus like status. They were all human, in the midst of the most terrible war we've ever known. Give them some peace. I could rattle on, but I have to run. Shredward
  11. Hi Dej, I make the grid ref of the three tents as 50:19:45N 3:08:50E. Don't remember why OFF's is where it is - might have been an early placement, or it might have been moved for terrain reasons. Dunno. Cheers, shred
  12. Hi Stump! Here's a couple of photos that should help. I've got the Datafile, if you want the drawings. Cheers, shred
  13. Brayelles was between Douai and Cuincy - now swallowed up by the expansion of Douai. We'll look at it. Cheers, shredward
  14. I would be ill advised to discuss its whereabouts, if I in fact knew, or how it got there, if it went anywhere, on a public forum. :patsak: shredder
  15. Not just Ypres - you can find that stuff almost anywhere along the Front, lying on the surface after the fields have been ploughed. I was walking across a corn field on the western slope of Vimy Ridge a while back, and found an unexploded 18 pounder just laying there. Cheers, shredward
  16. As opposed to me, who has also spent almost five years making OFF, and can still barely find the ON switch. :close_tema:
  17. I'll give that a go - hopefully it will overwrite the bad stuff. And I don't screw it up - I'm such a luddite. Thanks, shred
  18. Hi Winder, I have similar problems. I loaded an updated driver for my 285 a while back, and it locks everything up after a few minutes. Where did you find the default driver - I'd like to reinstall my original as well. Cheers, shredward
  19. Hi Mike, I just took a quick thumb through C&C's 'Nieuports in RNAS, RFC and RAF Service', and many if not most photos show them with an Aldis. However, we'll talk it over, and see how doeable an additional ring sight would be. Cheers, shredward
  20. Easy there Poncie-boy, or I'll be forced to ventilate your fucsia leather bun cushion. the shredder
  21. Complements varied from service to service, and changed throughout the war. Generally, Allied squadrons were larger, usually by quite a bit, but tended to field smaller formations. Usually, most units had spare machines, but this too varied, due to supply, and how intense the fighting was. Cheers, shredward
  22. Very Nice! shredward
  23. Nobody said war was fair. The Noop 17 started to enter service in the summer of 1916. By then, Fokkers were the Fodder. Cheers, shredward
  24. We're working on it. Cheers, shredward
