Thanks. Two more shots showing the two different camo jobs in development. Personally, I like the early war 3-color camo better, but the late-war 1-color camo is faster/easier to finish. I'm finishing the late war artwork so I can get the aircraft and graphics pack to a couple of guys for testing. The graphics pack concept is that guys who know paint program basics - copy/paste/postion/etc - can make new versions of the camo art provided in the pack. There will also be color swatches provided so guys with more advanced skills can make all-new camo artwork. EDIT: I'm also considering a couple of "how-to-do-it" articles for the knowledge base, but only if enough guys are interested. Having trained as a Painter (with a capital P) in my miss-spent youth, I use the color theories of the European masters - that's why my stuff has a distinctive look to it. Anyone interested in learning this approach to colors, leave a comment.

Total polycount is 20,273 - less than Third Wire's RE8. The "extra" polys needed to sculpt the flying surfaces are maybe 15% of the total. The polycount around the nose is fairly conservative, but I grafted in additional polys forward of the pilot so the upper fuselage and cowling appear smoother when viewed from the cockpit. EDIT: polycount for the engine cowling is 3,846 - does not include engine.

Strike Fighters 2 Screenshots

Nice paint jobs. -
Lovely! The F.40 had LOTS of character. I can see why the gunner is an awkward design problem.

Back working on the CR42. Merged the CR42 with the Hurricane to eyeball simulated fabric covering. On the flying surfaces, the model's surface is sculpted in 3D to simulate fabric covering. On the fuselages, instead of 3D sculpting, I used smoothing groups to simulate fabric covered stringers.

Industrial Objects
Geezer replied to Geezer's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2 File Announcements
Thought I'd move this stuff out the door, as I want to concentrate on the CR42 and then start the harbor objects. The civilian vehicles are about 3/4 done and will get finished sometime in the next few months. -
View File Industrial Objects This pack contains a variety of large, medium, and small industrial objects - plus two urban housing blocks. They were originally developed at the request of FE map makers so their appearance is typical of WW1. Wrench then pointed out that they could also be used for other maps - 1930s, WW2, and even parts of the Cold War. A modest selection of complimentary 1930s civilian vehicles is in development, and will be added in the future. THESE MODELS ARE ONLY TO BE DISTRIBUTED AS FREEWARE AND IN NO OTHER CIRCUMSTANCE SHALL THEY BE USED, EVEN IN PART, OF ANYTHING THAT IS PAYWARE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE COMBAT ACE MODDERS AGREEMENT. It may not be a case of one or the other. The heavy handed intervention by the White House in what should be a straight forward administrative decision implies that it's BOTH.

WASHINGTON — Republican Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Ajit Pai hosted a press conference on Tuesday to discuss with reporters about his concern about President Obama’s proposal “to regulate the internet.” Pai cited concerns ranging from the proposal causing heavy-handed FCC regulations on the internet to the plan being a “gift to trial lawyers.” TheDC: Previous attempts at regulating the internet have been shot down in the courts, why is it that this one seems to be a little scarier than the last ones? PAI: Two different reasons. One is the unprecedented involvement of the executive branch in our decision-making. Traditionally the FCC has been an independent agency that, even though I and the other chairmen are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, we’re considered to be independent and render expert objective judgment about some of these difficult policy questions. Here what you have is the president in an unprecedented way saying explicitly, “Not only do I want the FCC to do XY and Z, but this is the legal theory I want them to use to support it.” I think once that announcement was made, the trajectory of how our decision-making was proceeding, I think the writing was on the wall and the FCC felt like it was under enormous pressure to do what the president wanted us to do. And so that’s one fact. MORE: http://dailycaller.com/2015/02/10/fcc-commissioner-unprecedented-involvement-of-executive-branch-in-our-decision-making/

Correct - it IS the fortress at Przemysl. I originally made the fortification objects in response to requests from the FE map makers. Later, I expanded the selection so the objects could be used in other times and places.

That is a test tile in 3dsMax. I first made a plane 500m x 500m, then applied the art. Then, I Tessellated the plane which divided it into many smaller polygons, with points at the intersections. I then selected those points that sorta/kinda matched the gully and moved the points downward to form a kind of V channel in the plane. That is the quick and dirty way to roughly simulate a gully. A better way would require more points, which would enable you to make a floor to the gully with slanted sidewalls.

Got some more work done on the civilian vehicles, and made some experimental 2048 terrain art applied to a FE 500m tile. If the large tile art doesn't slow the fps too much it may be possible to really improve map appearance.
