  1. That's for the on-board espresso machine! It gets cold up there, after all.
  2. If you are running XP, make sure you have Service Pack 3 installed. Also, update your directX.
  3. Looks like my beta request went over like a lead balloon! That’s okay, really, and is simply a testament to the excellent work the OBD boys have already put into the DM. Clearly, the vast majority of people are very, if not completely, satisfied with the current DM and see little need to deal with the hassle of an alternative. Don’t get me wrong, I am also a great admirer of the HiTR DM and I have had tons of fun flying with it against many AI opponents. After all, adjusting the threshold values was originally the idea of Fortiesboy and myself, so I feel that part of our work is already incorporated into the “official” DM. Still, there is that little nagging voice that tells me, “Surely, a little tweak or two can’t do any harm!” Although I always tell the voice, “Don’t call me Shirley,” I can’t seem to resist a few tweaks here and there. Eventually, it turns into a huge project that starts to eat up all of my free time. So, if anyone wants to help me out by being a beta tester…please? P.S. Mr. Lucky: This used to bug me, too. However, I think I have solved the problem. The key is to change the probability of a hit to the aileron cables from 100 to 90 in the threshold section of the .xdp file for each plane. I still get hit in the cables, but not usually with the first burst from the AI.
  4. A Nieuport with two guns? Are you sure it wasn't a Strutter? As you already know, "X" starts warp. To cancel warp, press Shift-X. If you wish to warp back to base, you need to make sure that you have advanced your waypoint to point home. To do this, press Shift-W a couple of times. I think Ctrl-W goes back to the previous waypoint.
  5. Dear Friends of OFF, Here is a brief update on the damage model mod I am currently working on for HITR. At this point I have experimented with several planes for both the Allied and Central Powers and think I am at the point where I can apply most of my dm changes to all of the Quick Combat planes in HITR. After a little more testing and tweaking in QC, I will release the mod to the public. Since I am only a one man operation, however, this first release will have to be a beta release because I cannot hope to adequately test by myself all of the aircraft that currently exist in OFF. Therefore, I will be depending upon the rest of you to give me feedback about any problems or inconsistencies you may experience with the beta damage model so I can go about fixing or improving it. Even better, if anyone would like to help me out by becoming an “official” beta tester, please respond either by PM or by posting a reply to this thread. Having some beta testers would be of great help in testing the many variants that exist in OFF to make sure that none are out of line with the rest of the models. If I get enough help, I should be able to release a DM for use in both QC and the campaign in the fairly near future. Later today I will give anyone who is interested a more detailed description of what I hope to accomplish with this new alternative damage model. Cheers, and happy flying!
  6. That's too bad. They didn't even make the playoffs this year!
  7. Congratulations on your successful mission, Javito! I'll buy you a drink when you return from hospital.
  8. Interesting information, Olham and British_Eh. Looking in Airwrench, I notice that the Dr.1 setting for "Spin Stability" is set all the way to the left, to "Unstable," and "Stall Roll Off" is set to 0, for neither positive or negative. I wonder if tweaking these settings would have an effect on the spin and stall of the Dr. 1 we currently have in HITR? OTOH, changing these values might also have a negative effect on the turning capabilities of the Fokker, so any such changes must be undertaken with caution. WARNING: The above is posted for information only. I take no position on whether the Dr. 1 in OFF is correctly modeled or not.
  9. Even if you don't have Airwrench, you can look up the glide ratio for each airplane by opening the aircraft .cfg file with a text editor and typing "glide_ratio" into the search function. For example, the glide ratio for the Alb DIII is 5.74095. However, I cannot find the value for optimum climb speed. The climb speed in Airwrench must be based on a calculation of some kind between two or more variables in the .cfg file.
  10. In OFF, I believe the answer to all of these questions is YES! Of course, you may not agree with the implementation of these factors for all of the planes (now up to 46 in HitR), but I do believe they are there.
  11. Me want! Me want! (Cue Homer Simpson drool sound)
  12. My 8600GT nVidea card works fine with OFF. Will probably upgrade with another nVidea card as soon as I can replace the old one.
  13. Achtung! Ven attackeeing zee Krumpet, alvays lead mit der bratwurst, und not zee fruit!
  14. Don't know, WM. The only thing I might suggest is that your video card settings might be too high. Lower your terrain or scenery slider and/or decrease the timing of your video card if you have it overclocked.
  15. Thank you for that, Velvet. Again, death is the great Leveler. Whether born into privilege or from humble beginnings, we all owe a debt of gratitude to all who flew and died in service to their country during the Great War.
  16. Mr. Burns says, "Excellent!"
  17. SUPER, FANTASTIC, WUNDERBAR, JOLLY GOOD SHOW!
  18. Okay, I think here is where we have a problem. Without opening up my case and taking a look, I believe that my PCI-E video card requires TWO power connectors--the 15 pin VGA connector which plugs into the MB, and the 6 pin PCI-E power connector which plugs into the VC. Look carefully on your card to see if you can find a 6 pin connector. Then, look at the cables coming from your power supply. You should see a cable with only 6 connectors. That is the cable that attaches to your VC. . . . I think.
  19. Duce, Excuse me for asking, but I am lazy and have not re-read the whole thread... What kind of video card does your MB support: AGP, PCI, or PCI Express? Is your video card the same type that the MB supports? As I recall, AGP has one power connector, but PCI and PCI Express require two.
  20. Sorry I was not able to help much. BTW, have you installed Service Pack 3.0 for XP?
  21. Just a guess, but: 1) All power connectors, uh, connected? 2) Do you need to change your BIOS settings from SLI enabled to single card?
  22. Don't feel so bad, C. I had you looking in the wrong folder!
  23. You can prevent the xml file from resetting by right-clicking on the file name, choosing "Properties," and checking the read-only box.
  24. A Marty Feldman lookalike in the cockpit would be a nice touch!?? hee hee....
