Guys, I have tried to look at the graphics, and to read the voluminous expert words, but I got kind of "see-sick". I am technology-wise a caveman. Can anyone of you experts sum up what you found out, in a short and layman-proof manner? What are the main things to make better fraps here? What is a hardware controller? Does every computer have one already or is it a new "tool"? Does it only work together with those new SSD drives?

Well, we just had a railyard attack with Jasta 6 (see "Krauts vs Crumpets" thread), and as it was a brandnew pilot with nothing to loose, I took on the mission. I made three strafing runs, diving in in an angle of ca. 30°. Before the dive, I always zoom in two notches, as if I crouch right behind the gun sights. All targets become a bit larger. I could blow up some huge ammo crates and a truck. The defensive MG fire I only noticed when flying away from the target. I watch the traces and zigzag in the best possible ways. Didn't collect a single round! But I don't do such attacks with some victories and hours piled. The chance to get hit and at least become a POW are just too big.

To prevent you from getting disappointed: the movie is not at all about the real MvR and his deeds. Best is to watch it thinking, it was about some other Jasta. The aircraft scenes are mostly better than in "Flyboys" and they alone are worth watching it. Only exceptions: the fast and steep dives of these planes in some scenes.

No need to set it on high, Duce - in 1918 the Huns got flooded by the Entente aircraft. I would rather say, outnumbered by 3:1; so I wish you good luck, Hellshade - great piloting and fighting skills alone will still not be enough... Jasta 7 is a good choice.

Pips: He makes the telling point that, of the 298 N.28's operated by the USAC, there are only four (4) recorded instances where fabric stripped from their wings in a dive. And none of those occurrances caused a fatility. That's what I always thought and guessed. Well, I did certainly miss your banter, old boy! But I must be slippin' - I cannot remember a single occasion, when you got even only close enough to get behind my bird for an attempt to do so. And even if you had - you still would have to be able to hit me...

H W: For P4, I hope we'll see some real ground attack squadrons - a German Schlachtflieger career would be something special. Agreed! And SchuSta - Schutzstaffeln - to escort and protect recon craft; maybe also in two-seaters like the Roland "Walfisch" !

The Entente sent out more and more planes, Carrick, but it shouldn't get too crowded before 1918. If you attack enemy planes, check environment very careful first. With a D.II, you can dive away from an attack with good speed, but with a D.III you need to be more careful, cause the lower wings break easily. I just read the book by Julius Buckler, "Malaula! The battle cry of Jasta 17", and he never seemed to get into such trouble. I think, in OFF the Entente is sometimes a bit too present early on.
