S.E.5a, Nupe 28 and Brisfit - nicely assembled and painted
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The sharp eyes of an artillery man! Thanks, Bullet, it's corrected. I seem to get more and more dyslexic (or how that's spelled). Not in speech, but on the keyboard. Either I'm typing faster than before, or my brain gets old and scrambled. So, shame on you SPAD newbies - shot down by a senior, who forgot, what he shot, when he's landed (Lol!!) -
A Dsherrmannn Officer ass a pig?!? Zatt iss verrry typical enemy propaganda! Hmpff!!!

Stumpjumper, do you fly these self-made crates? I mean: do they have an own believeable flight characteristic, or are they "popped on" some BHaH plane's ones? -

Very "professional", indeed! Thanks for sharing. Yes, I could have climbed. With a Nupe 17 somewhere underneath your tail, that feels very uncomfortable. Speed, I think, is a little better on the Albatros DIII. So perhaps I should have done a full speed escape, followed by a climb - might be the only thing to do, cause turning with her is also suicidal. -
Just did a little research (I still know very little about WW1) about Esc3 "Les cigognes" (The Storks) and Guynemer. I wanted to find out, were they were stationed, when, cause I'd like to meet him in BHaH (simple minded as I am sometimes, I didn't think of just checking enlistment in Esc3 in BHaH). Anyway, I found this site about the "Storks", with data and good photographs (three of them below). Just click on the pictures to enlarge. Enjoy! http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escadrille/escadrille003.htm Edit/PS: at the bottom of the page are buttons for previous page and next page. There are also other Escadrilles!

Automated or Manual time / date
Olham replied to Macklroy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Flying it like you, Mack, but sometimes I do "manual advance", to see, if I will get some claims confirmed (which never happened). But two or three sorties a day was the normal job in those days; sometimes more even. As for the fuel load: I always fill up 150% of what's necessary for the round trip; so when it's 60 miles, I fill petrol in for 90 miles. But never much more, cause I think, the craft is really lighter and more agile with, say, a fuel load of 35 % than with a hundred. -

Yesterday, I made a flight like that, Creaghorn. All switched "OFF". I like the feeling much better, of course. But it came to a nasty disadvantage, when I tried to fight a Nupe 17 (in my DIII). Whilst I couldn't find HIM half the time - despite TrackIR - the AI pilot knew exactly my position, always. Whereas, in real life, the other pilot would also loose visual contact sometimes, and need to get new orientation. So, I switched "labels" on (but didn't feel good with it). I assume, you would have tried to climb away from that; to get full overview about the situation. And I know, that's what I should have done, instead of turning with a Nupe. -

Tried again to get them a little better. -
Distances...newbie questions again
Olham replied to rayfer's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The distance to another plane or object is a direct line - up or down or straight. The altimeter can be a German one, in meters, or English in feet. You open the altimeter, and then press "F5" again, to change "nationality". Congrats for your kill in an E III - not easy that! -

Very interesting thread! You're a really grown up fighter pilot, as Griphos says, Creaghorn. Wish I could be more like that. But I'm getting better, I think. What help/instruments/labels etc. do you use in f(l)ight, Creaghorn? -
WWI Mass graves are now being excavated

Yes, I knew, Cathy. I wonder, if the guy was ever rewarded in any way? Ans Australian soldiers did the burial service and the salute fire for him. Fine men they were! Were the Australians ever rewarded by England in any form for their service? -
I must say I find the new Flak very moderate on "normal", and you could still push it up to "realistic", or down to "easy". Well done, devs! ZoomZoom, sorry about your Pfalz man, but he had gotten all that crate could give him. Now, enjoy your life as an Albatros fighter pilot! It will be much more fun! (But don't get too carefree!)

He never gives up! Lol!!!

Good answer, Test Pilot!

Haven't experienced a gun jam yet, but..........
Olham replied to Cameljockey's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Cameljockey, I have that, after pressing "pause" for a screenshot. When I make screenies, I pause to choose the right angle. And I pause in the middle of the burst, hoping to get the tracers caught. Now, when it happens after releasing "pause", I just press the fire button short, and it stops. Perhaps try that? Also, you could "pause" the sim, press the WINDOWS key below left (game will zoom down), then press WINDOWS key again (game will zoom back up), and see, if it's released. -

Nothing to apologize for, Dej. You must be very good with Paint Shop; that's a tricky idea. I must admit, that my contributions here are easy on Photoshop. You go to "Filters" > "Artistic Filters" (or however they are called in English) > "Water colour". Adjust the various settings as you like them, and this is what you get. The other is just "Pastels" filter. -
Great pic, Widow! I LOVE Winnie-the-Pooh, since I got the book as a three-year-old. Cute pic, WomenFly2! Yes, that's what kids do to develope their immune complex. Lol!!! I used to build Forts in the dirt, from other people's thrown away icecream sticks. And I must have put my fingers in my mouth sometimes. Too much hygienic makes people allergic against everything, I say!

The Albatros is a great fighter indeed! Aaaahhhh!!! These words feel like ice cream on a hot summer day! Sure she is - but let's not tell ever'ybody, okay? They might all fly her otherwise, and would succeed more!

Tch!! I could now prezent a picture of Veronica Zeemanova; but I von't step down on zis level of ungentlemannish behaviour, mine Herren! (But you might google her... Lol!)

WWI Mass graves are now being excavated

Well, had they known then, what this Gefreiter would become later, they would have somehow managed to. But as far as I know, Hitler was really wounded in WW1. -
Yes, German Flak is verrry effishent! Mmuahahahaa!!!! Next time, when a pilot reaches 20 confirmed kills, put him to rest/retire him. That way you could keep the result. But 17 kills confirmed at once? That bloke must have had a relative at headquarters! My best pilot has 34 claims undeway by now. From those, some ten or twelve were rejected, eight were confirmed, and the rest is still "pending". I only hope to get some more confirmed, BEFORE he bites the dust.

My best target/view setup before TrackIR: 1. You can toggle between "fixed angles view" and "gliding view" (don't know how they're really called - check "controls"). Put that toggle command on a thumb button of your stick. Now use "glide view" for scanning the sky and environment in flight. For fighting, use "fixed angles" view, cause you can check six or any other angle much quicker with that. 2. Use TAC on "aircraft", on 4 miles (change distance by pressing "strg+shift+T"), as that's a distance, you could really see. Put "next target" key on a joystick button; mark the target; use yellow brackets (press "shift+I") and target cone (I think, press just "I" - see "controls"). With all this, even with not so good eyes sight, you should get the best results. A little cheat, as you're not a pilot of 20 summers anymore: when you marked a white spec on TAC (a bogey), and you want to know, who's coming for tea, press "pause", and then F4 two or three times. That switches you to the marked distant plane's outside view. Now you know who he is, and you can switch back to your cockpit. Enjoy!

Olham replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm much the same as you, Widowmaker. When I see far away flights, that are fewer than us or even numbered, I leave any target or flight path to check and hopefully engage. When they outnumber my flight, I am only that much more careful, that I try to get advantage in height, and, if possible, the sun. When I reached at least the height advantage, I still take on anything. And my best pilot always made it home after that, so far. Only problem: I loose my wingmen more that way, and often there's no one left to report my claims. Fighting only SPAD XIIIs, I see no problems. But I would have to act more careful again, if I should come across a flight of Camels (they should operate in the Marne area near Reims? Don't know...) I ran away only once with him. That was a flight of 4 Bristol fighters crossing overhead (we were three Albatros DVa 200), and suddenly coming down for an attack. I lured them towards a flight of Fokker Dr.1, and they wiped them out. But Bristols I found extremely dangerous opponents! And only once, I got shot up badly by SPADs. That was after a big fight with SPADs before; those had attacked us from above, and we were outnumbered. Only my direct wingman and I survived (no SPAD). On our way home, with little ammo left, we got attacked again, by four more SPADs. We could kill two, then my wingman fell. No rounds left, I tried to escape home. But you can't escape two SPADs with anything but an S.E.5a. And we don't have them. So they caught up with me; but I just made it over the lines, before I had to make a crash landing. -
campaign missions-newbie question
Olham replied to rayfer's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
If you want light, but fighting good action, start in Jasta 2, when they get the Halberstadt. Or as an Allied, opposite of the mud, at that same time.
