  1. Hahaha!!! UncleAl - you sure gave them something to think and talk about. In future, you may be known as "Radar Man"! :patsak:
  2. I'm not at all a D VII fan, I find, she looks like a flying soap box. And for the history, all sounds reasonable, what you both wrote, and I know, some things may never be fully cleared. Also I notice often, that the former opponent sides have both their own truths in some differing points. Performance data for example, do often differ in a way, that you could almost say: British planes performed better in British data, wereas German craft did better in German data. Now, I don't want to start a hassle about such things; and certainly not for Mr. Fokker, who was, as you said, Dutch. I'm not a real life pilot either. I haven't even seen these planes in the air, cause I'm not as lucky as the Americans or Australians, to have airshows with these crates. All experience I have with a Fokker D VII is flying it in this simulation. And there I found, she does perform most dangerously. Had I to fight an "online air combat", she should be my best choice. Although - I'm such a style and design freak, I would perhaps rather "die" in a beautiful fighter as the Albatros D Va, than to be the victor in a flying soapbox.
  3. Reichsadler means "Eagle of the Empire", and I always wanted to make a very conservative skin I imagined to have been flown by Guenther Ritter von Mahlow, a typicall Prussian noble with not much humour for a more cheeky skin (Lol!) The eagle, I think goes back to a double-headed eagle, which was the sign of the "Heilige Römische Reich deutscher Nationen" - that would be: "Holy Roman Empire of German Nations", more or less - at least very old.
  4. Didn't know that either - Gous, one soon day I must read your tutorial...
  5. Wow - superb screenshot of your "own kill" (Lol!) Didn't know, this happened to Nupes, too. Could you sail the plane, with engine low, then - or is that fatal? My newest screens are about my newest skin; so here's one, were I climb to kill R.E.8s.
  6. Well, I did a quick check of production numbers here: http://www.militaryfactory.com/aircraft S.E.5a: 5,205 Sopwith Camel: 5.490 Fokker D VII: 1.000 In Wikipedia I just read, that this specific craft had to be handed over to the Allies (or to be destroyed), due to it's extreme fighter qualities.
  7. More than Sopwith Camels even? That would surprise me.
  8. THIS-MAN-HAS-TASTE! (Lol!!!) No choice of any Jasta, at any time you like, is cheating. I think, no one can expect to survive the whole war. Start were you like. Many realy pilots came in late 1917 or even 1918. The Albatros DI/II is great in it's time - fun to fight! But then, the forward sight in the DIII is much better. I recommend you Jasta 11 for a start, as early as they they get the DIII. You will fly in the same Jasta as Manfred von Richthofen, and there are more good people to assist you, when you're in trouble. I will start there today, too. Have fun!
  9. Must have been posted before. For all who missed it: http://www.fokkerdr1.com A great site! The guy tries to identify all of the 320 Fokker Dr.1 built. You'll find photos, a section about MvR, skins, aireal combat paintings and so much more!
  10. Yeah, he looks like a serious, but good-hearted commander, whom I'd like to have flown for.
  11. So, Jasta 7, eyh? Haven't flown there yet. Must check, wether they are "offensive" enough for my temper - if so, I'll join them! Thanks, all!
  12. Not MUCH too far away, but still a little. As my rig is still too underrated for BHaH plus TrackIR plus FRAPS; here's an old vid you may have seen already; with some deflection shooting (pre TrackIR though).
  13. Wow, look at that Nieuport, that you will find under DEJ's link - breathtaking!
  14. The D VII was so much better than any other craft, that it was the ONLY aircraft, that was particularly named in the peace treaty. Have only used it in QC yet, but with that craft, I can kill anything - even when badly outnumbered. A "killer warthog" as I call her - ugly, but extremely effective!
  15. OAW means Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke (as far as I know), but didn't know, they built the Fokker D VII? Wikipedia didn't list that either. Here's some data they had: D VII: flüssigkeitsgekühlter 6 Zyl.-Reihenmotor: Mercedes D.IIIa, Startleistung (120 kW) 160 PS, D VII F: BMW D.IIIa (Höhenmotor), Startleistung 185 PS Höchstgeschwindigkeit: 189 km/h in 1.000 m Höhe 205 km/h in 2.000 m Höhe Steigzeit auf 1.000 m: 5 Minuten 48 Sekunden F: 2 Minuten 24 Sekunden Steigzeit auf 3.000 m: 8 Minuten 12 Sekunden Steigzeit auf 5.000m: 31 Minuten 30 Sekunden F: 15 Minuten 18 Sekunden Gipfelhöhe: 6.000 m F: 7.000 m Reichweite: 350 km Flugzeit: 1 Stunde 30 Minuten Bewaffnung: 2 LMG 08/15
  16. Interesting video tricks, and touching story (well, for us men - don't show your ladies; they'll shrugg and say: "Men!", with that sniffy smile.)
  17. The D VII F was a Hoehenjaeger (high altitude fighter). It was about 15 km/h faster, and, if the data I found were right, it had a much better climb rate. Which other is there?
  18. Wow, the "coming soo" section looks promising at WWW.WINGNUTWINGS.COM And the RODEN 1:32 plastik kits are surely great!
  19. I remember Womenfly2 posting, that the flight model for the Dr.1 is much closer to the real thing, if you put it from "realistic" to "easy". Worth a try, for that Voss combat and turn.
  20. Couldn't fly today, because of social duties - cooking with friends. I made two or three attempts to tell them of this great sim, but they gave me a pityful smile. Obviously, they didn't even know, that an Albatros was a FIGHTER PLANE! When we went to do the shopping, a Cessna crossed the sky above Berlin-Steglitz. Before I saw it, I imagined it to be a Halberstadt or an Albatros, in my phantasy. Looking up, I wished I could be in my cockpit, trying to grow my kill tally. Reality - sometimes sucks!
  21. Luiz, as soon as your plane is safely down, you can hit escape, if you get attacked still. Sim ends that flight there then, with no problem for you. If they don't attack you, you could mark enemy planes via TAC and brackets, and press "A" for wingmen attack. I did that recently, and they really shoot two crumpets down! Olham's revenge - Lol!!
  22. Captain Dirt and Captain Tuba! On standard checks, the medic told me, that you both are airworthy. In fact he said, that physically, you were in good condition. But he detected a melancholic touch in your conversations, which he hopes, will not end in a depression about your age! Well, before he returns to get you to the hospital, or brings strange medicines, I tell you, what I think is a good cure! You will enter your cockpits now, and perform some Tango with the enemy, to entertain the ground crew. And don't come back with left over ammunition! Is that understood?! Fine! There you go! Dismissed!
  23. Wow, Rooster (and Paarma) - are those black Albatros skins in the sim? What Jasta then? They look terrifying!
  24. May have been seen before, but worth it to check again: www.largescaleplanes.com
  25. My god, Widow - when do you sleep, eat, drink, work, and care for the family? It's an obsession! (Yes, it surely is - I have worked out more ideas to do over the easter days).
