  1. Just a couple quick screen captures showing some of the new features, including your stuff that I've build in, Olham. Maims are fairly noticeable--even on those whose bodies are intact: Meeting the Adjutant for the first time's a little more intense, as he knows more about you and cares if you're up to snuff: Though some can be push-overs. Like everything else, depends on their (and your) personality. And in flight, the Realism profiles feature Olham's enhanced and less-obtrusive aids where allowed. RSS for Beginners gets them all: Both friendly and enemy indicators are more subtle colors, and the combined compass/TAC doesn't give as much away but is still very useful for those without TrackIR. And it helps to look stylish over the front in Olham's mask and goggles: Which are selectable from the new and improved Hangar screen: And since this is Escadrille La Fayette, you and your fellow American pilots must deal with French crew, in this case stingy Munitions Officer Ombredane. Good hunting!
  2. The file JSGME_2.6.0_OFF.exe installs correctly and automatically in the proper location for OFF, and is the one you should download for OFF mods. It also includes the JSGME user manual. The jsgme_setup_2_6_0.7z is the generic version suitable for any game. This link is useful to players of other sims who can no longer find JSGME on their local forums. The OFF version will not even install without OFF on your machine.
  3. The one with OFF in the name is specifically designed to install in the right place for OFF. Use that. I'll add a note about it as a review. The other one is just the generic JSGME. Haha I guess I've made JSGME less generic!
  4. Major update to OFFbase available at Combat Ace. It rolls out a number of features that have been in development since last summer and are finally ready for more open testing: including a full-blown injury/maiming system and complete replacement for OFF's limited outcome-handling for crashes, a long with some major internal reworking and an overhaul of the trait system.... well here's the change-log: So go get it! And let me know if you run into bugs--with this many changes there are bound to be a few.
  5. Good question, Robert. You can easily choose which photo you want to use whenever you upgrade your pilot with another trait, just click the "Change Photo" button to cycle to another picture. The cool thing is OFFbase knows a little about the stock OFF photos, for example which ones have cigarettes and medals. Non-player characters use their AI to choose a photo they "like"--which is the same algorithm the "Change Photo" button uses to recommend your player pic. Chain Smokers are more likely to be seen with a cig, while Aces are more likely to be shown with a bunch of medals, etc. It's time-consuming to characterize the photos with metadata by hand (really need to set up a better system) so this is fairly limited at this point--German AIs know a little bit more about the photos than other nations just because that's what I've spent the most time with. As for adding photos there are issues to consider. Both CFS3 and OFFbase support an unlimited number of pilots, but OFF itself only supports 100. If you add additional bitmaps to a nation's PilotPhotos\ folder (eg Pilot101.bmp), OFFbase will use them automatically for NPC pilots and even let you choose them for your player pilot. But while OFFbase is be able to select these expanded pilots and launch their campaigns, OFF Manager itself can sometimes lose their dossiers and mess up the UnlimitedPilots.xml file when adding/deleting other pilots. Started working on an expanded photos mod with elephant way back, but the effort died due to this issue. Another option is replacing the stock photos with your own bitmap images. Keep in mind OFFbase's personality system, and put your new photo over an old photo of a similar kind of character. Here's a cool trick if you want to add your own customized AI pilots to your squad: Create a new pilot with the name you'd like in your squadron before your current pilot's date Join the new pilot into OFFbase, choosing their Background and other traits by rank Change Pilot back to your primary character Delete the new (still living) pilot's Dossier in OFF next time you Fly Mission with your primary Viola! The AI give to the new character will take over his virtual career with the name, rank, picture, and personality you chose, and you can interact with him in OFFbase and fly with him in the air. The OFFbase Adjutant may not assign you to the same flights right away, but it's cool as OFF will still simulate missions for the second flight and after some additional turnover flight assignments get shaken up. All part of the drama. So bring in your pilot's long-lost brother, flight school nemesis, or any other character you wish into your OFFbase campaign and build your careers side-by-side to help tell the story you want to live. Of course, they won't remember an preexisting relationships, but these things develop fairly quickly.
  6. Hey Fortiesboy, yep your JSGME's in the wrong spot. If it's inside the "CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields" folder it can't possibly work with some of my and Bletchley's mods, and so most modern OFF JSGME mods are designed to work from the OBDSoftware root folder.. Here is a version of JSGME that installs automatically in the correct location for OFF mods. All modern JSGME OFF mods should work with it without a hitch. Happy New Year!
  7. The Empty Weight mod included in HPW's FM makes AI planes carry the weight of fuel and ammo to help you keep up with them. Me too! But don't count OFF and 2012 out just yet--the mod community's working on a collective effort with some special surprises that I'm hoping can be released before the New Year. Stay tuned.

  10. No kidding, Olham. But glancing back through this thread it's neat to see how much impatience has stirred the community to action. Suggested P4 features including different ammunition types, improved maps, tracking of squadmates' activities in the air, writing reports even without kills (great for two-seater campaigns), dawn patrols, easier claims for the British (and French), more realistic and interesting injuries, automatic profiles for DiD and RSS settings--all are available to some extent now in OFFbase with supported mods. And the added investment in pilot characters and their relationships with other squadmates through the role-playing element gives more consequences to combat, making death scarier and helping to control that human element to unrealistic kill totals. Never mind the increased difficulty. WOFF will undoubtedly outdo many of these half-baked implementations, but there's plenty of fun to be had in the air (and on the ground!) while we wait! And you promised to try it now that Creaghorn's historical smoke and tracer bullets have been implemented. Plus I know you'll appreciate the new built-in field-of-view manager that supersedes the mislabeled controls in the Workshops. Links to all the supported mods are on the OFFbase download page as well. I suggest using the RSS realism profile you'll see in the mod manager, which dynamically adjusts difficulty across time for each nation. I look forward to hearing what you think of the experience, Olham. Remember as always to backup your pilots and unlimitedpilots.xml just in case (which I'm sure you do regularly anyway). OFFbase will backup your Workshops settings and CFS3Config automatically.
  11. Great info, Hasse Wind. The dynamic version of Creaghorn's smoke and tracer effects mod, included in just-released OFFbase 0.8.5, uses this to make these ammo types available roughly as they were historically: Elite British squads first, Poor German squads last. Prior to that, muzzle flashes only! Give it a try, everyone.
  12. My new FOV calculator joins the OFFice suite of programs. OFFfov, the Field-of-view Optical Vanguard for OFF, projects a 3D model of your screen into the gameworld to calculate and explore aspect-ratio-correct FOV settings for a range of viewing positions--boiled down to a pair of simple, easy-to-use sliders that position the virtual camera. Furthermore, your optimized FOVs are applied automatically all aircraft flown from OFFbase, triggering .bdp rebuilds only where necessary for faster launching of missions and also limiting CFS3 crashes while waiting. Seamlessly integrates optimal FOVs into OFFice-supported Damage Mods, which by themselves can distort perspective without a manual reset in the OFF Workshops after activation. Now it's possible to truly fly OFF as a visual simulation! And you'll never have to 'Set FOVs' again. Download OFFice 0.8.5 now!
  13. Big update to the OFFice suite of programs including OFFbase: As always, updated list of all supported mods is included on the download page. Go get version 0.8.5 now!
  14. Great upgrade to those dusty old medallions! You can find the mod with in an easy-to-use JSGME version, with an installer than puts all the files in the right place, at SimHQ.
  15. Yep that's likely the problem. OFFbase uses pilot names as unique identifiers, so you don't want to reuse names. And make sure you use my names mod to reduce duplicates among non-player pilots. If you absolutely insist on reusing pilot names, make sure you delete the previous pilot in OFF and delete his .plt file in the OFFice\pilots\ folder. I thought about making a button to fully delete pilots in OFF and OFFbase, but because one of the major features of OFFbase is a persistent war--where your pilots contribute to a squadron's institutional memory even after they're dead/captured--you shouldn't delete pilots anyway.
  16. Are you using the latest version 0.8.4, FokkerDviiOAW? Some leave problems in earlier versions have been corrected. Also, do you have multiple pilots in one squadron where this is happening?
  17. Glad you're getting it sorted, Davy! Doesn't using beta security software kinda defeat the purpose? Anti-virus software usually seems to be the cause of the weird problems people have with OFFice. Truthfully, does more harm than good for most users, creating a false sense of security with constant notices and updates and false positives while wreaking havoc on the basic operation of your computer itself. Norton now uses a social-media "reputation" based system and won't even let you download files that your friends make since they're not popular yet! Microsoft's Security Essentials is free and stays out of the way--MS's best product since they screwed up Home Server.
  18. The RSS and DID profiles control difficulty in flight and take over the reward scale so you earn more prestige from kills with aids disabled, etc. But it doesn't affect others' feelings and relations--the cook is just sweet on you! Let me know if you're earning promotions way too fast with those settings and I'll think about rebalancing a little.
  19. That is bizarre, Davy. Never seen or heard of anyone else having problems anything like this before. OFFice has nothing at all to do with Windows Media Player, I know that. One thing that comes to mind is maybe your antivirus software might be preventing the VBScript from running correctly, maybe redirecting calls to a fake avenue that for some reason ends in an outdated wmp.dll? Or perhaps you've disabled some important services causing Windows Script Host to break? Try disabling your antivirus software and see if that helps.
  20. Can you send me a screen shot of the error or something? Need more info to diagnose the problem.
  21. Haha my guess was 20.046" by 11.276", do I win a prize? Open the Control Panel and paste this into the location bar at top to go right there: Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display Try the Medium and Larger settings, but first click the DPI settings on the left and make sure the XP style scaling is off or set to 100%. I find it's well-balanced by the ENhanced Brightness ENB mod!
  22. You have 1920 pixels across and 1080 high. Use it. Anything else has to distort or crop the image to fit into those 1920x1080 little squares. You've got Windows rendering a desktop that's a completely different shape than your actual display. This will also mess up the FOV settings in the next version of OFFice. For eye strain and headaches, there are two issues I'd examine. 1. Stuff just may be too small. But what you're afraid of is old XP-style DPI scaling--changing the size of fonts and causing those problems you mentioned. That's exactly what you don't what to use in Vista/7/8 which treat your desktop as a 3D texture and can scale that without affecting how any applications themselves are rendered, designed for LCD screens. Make sure you're using the right method and give it a try. 2. Color temperature. I suggest using this program to correct the lighting your LCD screen gives off for the ambient lighting given your location and time of day. Makes a big difference especially with "LED"-enhanced LCDs like yours. Okay, 3. Don't get all out of whack with Nvidia control panel. Could be something there messing things up at your native resolution. Make sure you're using the correct Refresh Rate as well. 1600×900 is the next smallest 16:9 resolution. But how do you think your monitor stretches a 900 pixel tall image onto a 1080 pixel tall screen? Not prettily, at least compared to displaying an image the right size to begin with. And a true 23" diagonal and16:9 aspect ratio is 20.046" wide by 11.276" tall. Haha man, you're the only one doing anything weird!
  23. 1680x1050 is 16:10 and doesn't work well at all on your 16:9 Dell. You're either getting a distorted (squished) or truncated (missing top&bottom) view. With LCD screens you pretty much always want to run them at native resolution. If stuff on your desktop is too small, DON'T lower your resolution. Windows Vista/7/8 which were designed in the LCD era instead have options to scale up the render itself . Check Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display, though you'll have to logoff and log back in for the changes to take effect. This should give a much better result than using non-native resolution in the wrong aspect ratio!
  24. Yep that's what it looks like-good ol' CFS3, released in 2002. But it lets me replace the OFF Workshops settings with a simple slider that moves through the full vertical FOV allowable by OFF while preserve the correct aspect ratio for your monitor. Yep again. It's possible to calculate where in the room CFS3 thinks its virtual camera is, so you know where to put your eyeballs. Takes a special someone to put up with Barmy OFFers!
  25. You sure about those resolutions, HPW? Neither 1980x1050 nor 1650x1080 are 'proper' resolutions. 1920x1080 is 16:9, and 1680×1050 is 16:10. What's the model number of you Dell monitor?
