  1. F-8 Crusader TACMAN

Please share it you get your hands on, what an interesting read I bet!
  2. Use mules lod viewer in the downloads section
  3. First make sure the figures in BRU-55 data.ini you have can carry the weight and dimensions of the 2x JDAM in question. A 2br or ter will not carry a GPS guided weapon (EOGB) if loaded at the loadout screen. However if loaded via the loadout.ini file and not changed at the loadout screen it will. Eg: Loadout[03].WeaponType=GBU-38 Loadout[03].Quantity=2 Loadout[03].RackType=BRU-55

F-106A in Vietnam (What if) Background: During the late 60’s there were serious discussions in the USAF about deploying the F-106A to the conflict in Vietnam. Obviously this never eventuated but the possibility lead to project Six Shooter which saw a gun pack and an improved visibility canopy added to the F-106A. So what would the Delta Dart have looked like if it had served in the skies above Vietnam? In 1968 the USAF conducted a Tactical Evaluation to evaluate the effectiveness of existing tactical manoeuvres by USAF and USN combat aircraft against the MiG-21 Fishbed. It was called ‘Have Drill/ Have Ferry.’ The ADC evaluated the F-106 and found its radar capable of acquisition of the MIG and that radar snap-up attack could be used to exploit the MiG-21's lack of fire control. The F-106 could use better acceleration to get beyond MiG-21 speed limits. A direct result of this evaluation was the ADC recommendation to “expedite fitting the internal gun, redesigned canopy, radar warning and ECM equipment into the F-106”. So based on the above (factual) information I present the F-106A Delta Dart (69) ‘Nam’ To the SF2 F-106A I have added the following: - Permanently mounted M61A1 Gun Pack (Project Six Shooter) - Internal ALQ-100 ECM - Chaff dispensers - APR-25 RHAW (Audio only) - SEA camouflage (Day and Night) - Pilot in tiger stripped flight suit. - I have also applied the MA-1 FCS ECCM upgrade done to 314 F-106 in 1963. The ECCM system allowed the FCS to reject radar returns resulting from chaff dispersal by a target. As part of the upgrade a final modification resulted in increased missile performance. Modifications to the FCS permitted up to 35 percent more deflection of the Falcon missile’s control surfaces. This resulted in a more agile missile at launch, increasing the missile’s ability to react to a maneuvering target. To portray this in the game I have made changes to the F-106 avionics as well as a specific ECCS AIM-4F missile. Notes: - The AIM-4G has been changed to have no audible growl (It never had it) and is slaved to the radar. This more accurately portrays the employment of the IR guided Falcons. You will have to use the radar to know when you are locked on and in range. (Just like a F-106 pilot would have had to done in real life). - The weapon bay doors are manually activated, I prefer this as the animation doesn’t work with most missile shots when it’s set on automatic. - There is a specific version of the M61A1 gun for the F-106 as when installed in the F-106 its rate of fire was limited to 4500 rounds per minute. 5. Re sizing the tracer textures 50% or 25% smaller can go long way to help this
  6. Out of curiosity what do you think it would be worth market rate if he were to sell it to CA?
  7. For a gunpod you do don't need change a thing just hit the 'next gun group' key and it will toggle between just the gunpod, just the internal gun or both together (default). Gungroup comes into it when you have 4 of the same internal gun as on the F-8 and want to toggle between being able to fire just two at a time.
  8. Apologies as you are 100% right this changes between gun pod only, internal gun only or both together. It even worked on the F-8 to switch from firing all 4 cannons to just two at a time as they did in real life to conserve ammo. I see there is a GunGroup= entry that can be used with each internal gun, just give it a group number. How did I not know this!!! And of course it allows to to switch between cannons and/ or machine guns on WWII fighters... mind blown lol
  9. The only work around is to change the gun fire command for your internal gun to "InputName=Fire_Secondary_Gun" in the data.ini and map the secondary gun fire button. Downside is the AI wingmen wont use/fire a secondary gun.
  10. I just flew a few tests in ODS with the GAU-13 gun accuracy down to 10% I would consider the results below an area weapon. Enlarge the screenshots and look at the spread of fire hitting the ground. Each one is a 1-1.5 second burst. My ODS F-16A Block 10 with improved textures, cockpit, avionics, loadouts, effects and updated data.ini (to viper team standards)
  11. 12. Like so... P.s. the painted over squadron tail fin markings are from VF-24 as in the story on the first post.
  13. Quote from Osprey Combat Series F-8 Crusader Units Of The Vietnam War: "The Crusader's last months in Vietnam are filled with amazing stories, but none more incredible than that involving Cdr John Nichol's VF-24 in the Hancock in 1973 (...) and arrived at the southern end of the Red Sea as the third Arab-Israeli war was winding down (...) the squadron commanding officers of Air Wing 21 listened in amazement as they were told to stand by to fly their A-4 and F-8s to Israel and turn them over to the hard-pressed Israeli Air Force (...) However the Israelis had gained the upper hand in the war, and the Hancock was sent on its way back to the United States."
  14. View File Mirage III & Nesher Gun Sight Fix. Mirage III and Nesher Gun Sight Fix. This mod corrects the Stock Third Wire Gun Sights for the Mirage IIICJ Shahak, Mirage IIICJ Shahak (71), Nesher and as a bonus the DLC 17 RAAF Mirage fighters. I recently read the Osprey book Israeli 'Mirage and Nesher Aces' and 'Mirage III vs Mig-21 Six Day War 1967.' Both books are full of gun camera images of Israeli Mirage IIICJ and Nesher fighters killing MIGs. From these I realised Third Wire has made an error on all the Mirage gun sights by aligning the (horizontally elongated) aircraft reference cross with the gun bore-sight and thus the gun piper. In the Nesher and Mirage IIIO that leaves the actual gun bore-sight cross sitting above the gun piper doing nothing. This mod corrects the position and alignment of the aircraft reference cross, gun piper and gun bore-sight cross (Nesher and Mirage IIIO). This correction should be applied to any other version of Mirage III, Mirage 5, Nesher or Dagger you have that uses a Third Wire Mirage cockpit and/ or Mirage gun sight. CombatAce fair use agreement applies. Cheers, Dan. Submitter dtmdragon Submitted 05/03/2019 Category Avionics
  15. No but it sounds like you haven't put the cockpit folder with the modified .tga files in the right place
  16. Actually I have a better idea. Have invisible tip tanks that can be jettisoned like I said above but make the 3d model of the tip tanks part of the aircraft LOD. Set up the node name of the tip tank as the pylon 'ModelNodeName=' for the weapon station carrying that tip tank. Set up the 'PylonMass=' and PylonDragArea=' vales with the figures for what the tip tank would be. Thus when you hit the jettison drop tanks key the 'invisible' drop tanks with the fuel will be gone but the 3d model of the tip tanks (as the pylon that was holding the 'invisible' drop tanks) will remain on the aircraft. This method doesn't use multiple loadout stations etc
  17. As a work around you could have the tip tanks be loaded as a non-jettison tank but have the fuel value set as zero. Set up on another hardpoint (but in the same position), have the actual wingtip tanks that carry fuel but these can be jettisoned and have no 3d model (so are invisible). Thus when you hit the jettison drop tanks key the 'invisible' tip tanks with the fuel will be jettisoned but the 3d model of the (empty) tip tanks will remain. You would set the weight and drag values of the 'invisible' to tanks to zero.
  18. Requiring pilots to be Officers is historically related to having an over supply of suitable candidates so thus the Armed Force in question has the luxury to make a Commission part of the requirements of the role. This helps with creating a smaller pool to recruit from initially and from the Armed Force's perspective provides an individual that (as a Commisioned Offcer) can be used in upper management roles in the future. That is why the RAF with a shortage of pilots in WWII used NCO pilots but post war shifted this to an Officer only role. It's worth noting that the RAF and most Commonwealth based Armed Forces do not require Officers to have a degree but undertake 'in house' selection with requirements based on leadership aptitude etc.
  19. Who knows mate, that one paragraph from the book is all the information I have but apparently it it authenticated on a few ex-Crusader pilot/ crew/ squadron forums?
  20. The USN A-4F Skyhawks that actually arrived during the height of the war as part of Operation Nickle Grass were repainted literally over night and put into service the day after they arrived fully re painted. The USAF F-4E were not since the SEA camaflage was deemed suitable until after the war. The USN grey was not.
  21. Higher Res F-8 Crusader Skins with more panel line/ rivet detail, white missile rails, white missile rail adaptors on some skins, updated late Squadron markings for VF-211 and single AIM-9/ LAU-33 pylon mod for F-8D/E/H/J Edit: I just caught the error with the wing code on the VF-211 F-8J, needs to be NP not NF!
