Sukhoi Fishpot SU-9.7z
SupGen replied to russouk2004's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Sorry, posted here: http://combatace.com/topic/78602-dlc029-now-available/page-5?do=findComment&comment=628294 . As far as the A or B model goes, a (very) quick search indicates that there was only one production model. As I mentioned in the thread I linked to, I think the F would make a fine early model with some .ini edits, eg. aircraft name, service dates, weapons, and a downgraded radar. Thanks again Russ, for a beautiful aircraft. -

Just d/loaded the new pack; this is the decal .ini from the Splinter skin: [Decal001 MeshName=Fuselage DecalLevel=2 DecalFacing=RIGHT FilenameFormat=SU-9F\SOVRED\RedBlk Position=4.52,0.01 Scale=0.9 DecalMaxLOD=3 [Decal002] MeshName=Fuselage DecalLevel=2 DecalFacing=LEFT FilenameFormat=SU-9F\SOVRED\RedBlk Position=4.52,0.01 Scale=0.9 DecalMaxLOD=3 [Decal003] MeshName=Rudder DecalLevel=2 DecalFacing=RIGHT FilenameFormat=SU-9F\SOVRED\RedBlk Position=-8.36,2.50 Scale=0.3 DecalMaxLOD=3 Rotation=-2 [Decal004] MeshName=Rudder DecalLevel=2 DecalFacing=LEFT FilenameFormat=SU-9F\SOVRED\RedBlk Position=-8.36,2.50 Scale=0.3 DecalMaxLOD=3 There's no callout for either RedStar or Insignia; is this right? As for Luftwaffe as seperate aircraft; excellent as really should be East German. As far as a B model goes, your F model has service dates of 1958 to 2025 (I think), if we want a discrete B model I'm assuming some .ini edits would do the trick? Service dates, weapons, etc.? Or is there something else you'd change? Thanks again, and sorry to be a pain you-know-where. -
DLC029 now available

Thank you, Russ. Luftwaffe bird looks great, but Texture .ini doesn't call for decal randomization; should I add that? I did have the update and redownloaded it from your link above. The Splinter skin still has no stars, is that the way it should be? There are only the entries for SU-9F\SOVRED\RedBlk in the decal .ini. Last, the readme in the update says the A and B models are included, but I don't see them. Sorry to be a PITA, but while I've got your ear I figured I'd ask. -

russo, a little off topic, but while we're on the subject there are a couple of "anomalies" in the decal .inis for the SU9F. In the 179 IAP skin, the decal .ini calls for FilenameFormat=SU-9F\RedStar, but there are no .tgas in the decal folder. I changed it to read FilenameFormat=Insignia and it works fine. Also, the decal .ini in the Splinter skin only has the four entries for numbers; FilenameFormat=SU-9F\SOVRED\RedBlk; no insignia of any kind; is this intentional? Lastly, as downloaded, the Luftwaffe skin contains only the SU-9 .jpg and nothing else. I sort of cobbled together a working skin with a modified texture set .ini and used the decal .ini from the Splinter folder, but I don't know how correct that is. The real issue there is, no green pylons...it looks a little funny with the natural metal ones. Beautiful plane though, waaaay nicer than the DLC. Can't wait to see the new A and B. -

The May 2013 Patch and you
SupGen replied to SupGen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I'm only asking because you can have all the DLCs (including the F-4N with slotted stabs),in the July2012 patch, if you want 'em. http://combatace.com/topic/78602-dlc029-now-available/page-3?do=findComment&comment=627354 -
Warmbrak, did you delete everything in the C:\blah, blah\SavedGames\ThirdWire folder but the Options and Versions .inis? I have a setup like yours and NF5 works fine for me. The other thing off the top of my head, because I don't run the .exe a second time after changing the Directory path but copy/paste it to my F: Drive, you may have to copy/paste the Options .ini from your E: Drive back to your C:\SavedGames folder. Don't ask me why, but sometimes it matters.

SupGen replied to usafphantom2's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
OK guys, for those who didn't see my post in the WW2 thread, You need May2013 to get DLC028 and DLC029, but you don't need it to have them. I patched up to May13 when it came out (against my better judgement) and got the first AI DLC when that was available; happy, right? Yeah, until I saw what the patch did to many 3rd party aircraft and terrains (especially the WW2 ones). I did what was to be a temporary install of Jul12 to see if I could spot the differences that were messing everything up. After I ran the .exe, I looked at the Version .ini and it said: [Version] BuildDate=Jul 2012 StrikeFighters2=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Vietnam=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Europe=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Israel=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Exp1=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Exp2=TRUE StrikeFighters2 NorthAtlantic=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Exp3=FALSE [OnlineNews] LastUpdateVersion=May 2013 LastDLCCount=28 [DLC] DLCData028=TRUE Interesting, no? So I pasted over the DLC028 into the DLC folder in the new Jul12 install and pasted over the individual aircraft folders as well. Added cockpits, and voila! DLC028 in Jul2012! Whoo Hoo! After that I just rolled everything back to Jul2012. Then today, new DLC! At this point I wasn't really sure if you needed May2013 at all, so I bought DLC029 and ran the Installer;...Bummer! You need May2013! Bummer?...not really. This is what you do. First, go to the ThirdWire download page and download the StrikeFighters2 installer; you'll only need the one. Now, in whatever location your main StrikeFighters2 install resides, (ProgramFilesX86, whatever) next to the ThirdWire folder that's already there, create a new folder and call it ThirdWire2 (or whatever you want, crappy patch, whatever). Run the SF2 installer you just downloaded, and when you get to the window telling you where it's going to install click "Browse" and point it to the ThirdWire2, crappy patch, whatever folder you just created. Let it install. Now, and this is real important, copy and rename the .exe before you run it. Call it May13, crappy patch, you get the idea. Run the .exe and then install the DLC. Run it again and then, copy and paste the relevant DLC file from the DLC folder in the "crappy patch" install to the DLC folder in your "happy patch" (Jul2012) install. Now take whatever precautions you normally take when patching and run each of your .exes. Your Version .inis should look like the one below. You'll have to copy over the aircraft files to your mod folders, but, I don't know, small price to pay? Which brings up something else; there's nothing shady or illegal about this; I (and you) paid for all of it or ThirdWire wouldn't let you d/load it. I just don't want to have the privilage of having all my WW2 installs porked; now you don't have to either. -

Can someone explain to me why we're waiting for EXP3? I think were at the point here where TW's F-1 will be a letdown. -

JSGME in StrikeFighters2
SupGen replied to SupGen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Well, I hate to sound like a broken record, but...here's an update on things you can do with JSGME in StrikeFighters. Now, my situation may be a little different than most as my install is on a drive other than C:, my F: drive. However, what I'm about to explain may justify putting your install someplace other than the default (SavedGames for Vista and Windows7, My Documents for XP) folder just so you can take advantage of it. I put the JSGME .exe in my SavedGames folder, ran it and let it generate it's Mod folder. In the Mod folder, I placed a folder (mod) called Patch/Update. In that folder I placed a duplicate folder for each mod folder in the SavedGames folder; the only contents of these being a copy of the Options .ini for each mod. The key to the whole thing is that, while the Options .ini in each mod folder points to my F: drive (where the real mod folders are), the Options .ini in the duplicate folders point to the C: drive. What this means is that, when the mod is enabled, all the Options .inis point to C:, when I run an .exe the default mod folders are created there. For a new install, I just copy over the entire folder to my F: drive and just leave a (same named) folder in C: with the Options .ini pointing to F:. The only downside is I have to copy over DLCs manually, but it's not much of a downside. Two clicks to set up for a patch or DLC; I just went back to July2012 from May2013 and the thing that took the longest (because I had to delete all the old .exes), was running the installers and copying and renaming the mod specific exes. No renaming mod folders, aircraft main .inis, none of the usual bu####it you normally go through. I realize this sounds complicated, but it really isn't. Give it a try, you'll never fear patching again. -
May Patch?
SupGen replied to usafphantom2's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Done. Done with May2013 'til it's fixed. The only extra step I have, because my install is on my F: drive is explained here: http://combatace.com/topic/78439-new-patch-outnothing-interesting/page-3?do=findComment&comment=625869 . -
May Patch?
SupGen replied to usafphantom2's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Yeah, I'm going to completely redo my main install (delete and replace/rename all .exes.), the other part of it is, I have several ThirdWire folders where I install the .exes to; ThirdWire, ThirdWire2, ThirdWire3, etc. To install a different patch level point the installer to an unused ThirdWire folder, install the .exes, and rename them (SF2E2010, for example) before you run them so they don't overwrite anything in the SavedGames folder and then proceed as usual. -
May Patch?
SupGen replied to usafphantom2's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Guys, we don't need the May2013 patch in order to have the DLC 28; we only need it to get DLC 28. I just did what was to be a temporary re-install of SF2Europe, July2012 patch to see if I could find what's changed and porked everything up. I took a look at the Version .ini and this is what it said: [Version] BuildDate=Jun 2012 StrikeFighters2=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Vietnam=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Europe=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Israel=TRUE StrikeFighters2 Exp1=FALSE StrikeFighters2 Exp2=FALSE StrikeFighters2 NorthAtlantic=FALSE StrikeFighters2 Exp3=FALSE [OnlineNews] LastUpdateVersion=May 2013 LastDLCCount=28 [DLC] DLCData028=TRUE Just for the hell of it I copy/pasted the DLC 28 folder into the Jul2012 DLC folder and right now I've got DLC Starfighters in Jul2012Europe. I don't know about any one else, but I'm going back to Jul2012; with my DLC. -
Well, I've been doing a little foolin' around and I noticed a couple of interesting things. One is that aircraft don't jump around on the Midway terrain like they do on the others, on the other hand , if you launch them by autopilot they take a looong time to get any speed up and just fly around 7ft. off the ground til they run into something. Launched from a carrier (again by autopilot), they fly normally. Flying a P-39D, I noticed something even odder; see the attached image with the main gear legs protruding through the top of the wing. No bouncing, but full gear compression. I then flew the same aircraft from the Philippines41 terrain; crazy bouncing but after it stops, normal gear compression. See the other image. I then took a closer look at what was happening and from an external view, it doesn't look like the plane is bouncing, but the entire terrain. See the vid in the zip. file. Then I took the P-39D and dropped into my modern Europe install (May2013) and flew it off the (nearly) stock GermanyCE terrain. No bouncing plane, no bouncing terrain, no compressed gears. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think whatever TK did didn't pork the aircraft, it porked the WW2 terrains. If you look here you can see all four stock terrains had at least one file changed: http://combatace.com/topic/78439-new-patch-outnothing-interesting/?do=findComment&comment=625484 Terrain Jump Video.7z
