  1. Lol, I thought I was slow in getting a computer in 1995! Heck, maybe we could get a CombatAce board gaming community going...HA! Wouldnt that be cool... :0)
  2. Oh man! Axis and Allies! How could I forget that game, lol. My two pals and I played that religously for over 6 years every tuesday. Holidays didnt even stop us. The only excuse was a death in the family, lol. Got to playing first East Front by Talonsoft on the computer, then Ghost Recon and my board games started collecting dust. Lol, yeah MrCraig, I looked at AirWar a few times and your right, it was a BIG brute. I figured no one I knew would ever get into it, kinda like Flattop so never bought it. I think I played two flattop games over 20 years against another opponent and finally sadly sold my game on Ebay a few months ago. By the way, you guys DO know about Vassle dont you? Check out this link here...Vassel gaming Engine. It actually works pretty nice, at least from what I can see with Panzer Leader.
  3. Ive always been fond of Panzer leader and Panzer Blitz, squad leader, and a few others like Flattop and Richtofens war. Found a renewed interest in PL and discovered this really nice website of a Canadian enthusiast of the game...Imaginative Stratagist. The new Lock and Load series looks pretty outstanding too. Anyone else here indulge?
  4. Ok, maybe you can tell me what happened here as Im still not sure I understand the file structure. I made the MiG-17 flyable very easily using the A-4B cockpit. I simply added the lines... CockpitDataFile=A-4B_cockpit.ini LoadoutImage=A-4B_loadout.tga HangarScreen=A-4B_hangar.bmp LoadingScreen=A-4B_Loading.bmp to the Mig-17 ini in the C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\My Documents\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Objects\Aircraft\MiG-17 folder. Then I unpacked objectdata003.dat in C:\Program Files\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2\Objects into a folder with the same name. I was then looking for a A-4B cockpit panel I wanted to repaint in soviet colors for the MiG-17. I found it, did the paint job I wanted to it and repacked the files. Making sure everything had the proper names and the new paint job on the file was the same dimensions of 256X256. I then go fly and VOILA! my cockpit has the new paint job...KEWL! Then switched to an outside view to watch the dogfight and realized that all the other planes were now without skins...they were ghostly white! All I did was change one file and repacked everything. What happened that changed all the other aircraft??? I also tried leaving the new file just in the C:\Program Files\ThirdWire\Strike Fighters 2\Objects folder outside the cat file to see if that worked; it didnt. What if I simply put it in its own cockpit folder in the C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\My Documents\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Objects\Aircraft\MiG-17 folder? If so, do I need to add anything else to that folder? I could try this but Im off to work shortly for a nice 12 hour shift...ack... UPDATE! Nevermind, I reread what wrench posted and I had 5 minutes before I had to leave for work...lol. So put the new file in its own folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\My Documents\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2\Objects\Aircraft\MiG-17 folder. Works great! All the other planes have their skins and I have my new cockpit repaint. Man, Im a freaking jenious...;)
  5. These are a nice improvement over the stock ones. Looking forward to them. Thanks for the time and effort kout.
  6. Hey shipmate...former BM2 here. Good luck with your career in the Navy. Loved it myself, espesially overseas.

  7. Well, I decided to add my support to TK's efforts, so bought a copy of the game. Question...anyone added a cockpit to any of the AI planes? As soon as I finish downloading, Im gonna try the Hi-res Mig-21 cockpit by MK2 and see what happens.
  8. Prayers going up for Mannie and his familys' safety. God bless Mannie...
  9. I wouldnt mind my hairline or waistline being updated...preferably the hairier, sleeker versions... However, I guess an update to my profile will just have to do...
  10. That was a pretty cool video. You caught a LOT of the features, and very cool aircraft models, of Strike Fighters, not to mention the nice graphics. Watching the tank blow its turret from the missile hit and the A-10 hammer the next tank with its cannon was cool. The barrel rolls spraying flares was neat too. Uh oh...did I say "neat"???!!?? Uh, anyway, well done. TK should use that video to showcase his game.
  11. Sakai, Its very heart warming to hear a young person like you remember you Grandfather as you do. You honor and respect him. His memory will never die as long as you hold it close. My sincerest condolences with your familys' loss. God bless. RIP Willard Simmons.
  12. Sad news. I always appreciated her in the original series. RIP Majel...
  13. Cool factoid. Funny how little things like that memory will pop into your mind. Makes me smile when I remember something like that.
  14. <S>
  15. Aint it the truth...Happy Thanksgiving all.
  16. Remember, Thanksgiving is a word of action. W.J. Cameron God bless and my best wishes for you all on this good day.
  17. Congrats Petty Officer! Im sure you earned it.
  18. PC3200 RAM? Thats a bit dated. Might I suggest PC6400 DDR2. It runs fine on my AMD 64X2 5400+ 2.8ghz machine on a Biostar mobo. The Geforce 9800 is a good mid-range card that will suprise you with its performance. You'll be able to afford a second card down the road for SLI. I have a Geforce 8600GT with 512mb DDR3 and it is awesome. You know, the Quad core intel machines are pretty nice these days and are easy on the wallet. But I sure like my dual core AMD machine. Nice when an entry level machine is powerful enough to run high end games AND still be reasonably priced.
  19. Those people mustnt have working olfactory senses...that cant smell good...I think I'll pass on lunch now...
  20. My wife is a fan. I watched a concert on DVD, I think it was in Belgium, that was pretty darn good. The man is definately talented.
  21. Two thoughts... I generally have a cap on anyways outside so being un-covered isnt much of an issue for me, though I've known for years that the USAF and Army can salute inside uncovered. Marines and Navy dont. No big deal. And to be perfectly honest, I didnt realize you couldnt salute the flag as it passed in a parade or I raised it at work; Ive been doing it for years, never did get a ticket... The anthem or pledge was when I placed my hand over my heart. So now we got a law says we can do what we shoulda been doin anyway, showing respect to our colors, in one form or another...whooptie-do. Just what we need, another law. You know what Echarlie? You go ahead and salute anyway bro, you earned it by God, law or no. Semper fi...
  22. Uh, never mind I guess...this was just a drill gentlemen...I got the latest SP4 CGN-9 from Capuns' site. Mine was an older SP3 version I think. I also finally got the weapons editor to work like the knowledge base shows and installed Bunyaps weapons pack. Turns out, I was looking at some screenies I shot of the cruiser and the forward most launcher of the two forward launchers didnt have any missiles on it. It was because they werent installed properly. (There are two forward launchers.) The missiles I saw before on the other forward launcher and the aft launcher were just dummy, not meant to fire. Thanks for the time you spent to reply...I usually dont ask for help until I have exhausted possibilities and dang when I do finally ask, I stumble on the answers...geeze... :slow(en): PS. Wrench, what do you think we can do to improve this ship? What ini edits could it use do you suppose?
  23. OK, what did you do to get the terriers to fire? Up the search and track range? Unless that range is measured in inches, I flew all around the ship and nothing ever happened. I also noticed as I on occassion switched views to the ship, that the gun and missile batteries arent tracking me like they did prior to the patch. I'll try yours and malibus' suggestions though and see what happens.
  24. I've had a problem getting ships to shoot at all in the patched game. I did a vanilla install, added USS Long Beach CGN-9, made an anti-ship mission with the editor, and flew against the ship. It never engaged me with its weapons. I finally checked the gundata.ini and the 5"54 guns are listed there. The missiles, Talos and Terrier, are in the weaponsdata.ini file and in the weapons folder. We no longer have to add ships to the groundobjectdata.ini right? I doont think there is even one now right? So what have I done wrong?
  25. Thanks for the help Dave, didnt mean to be a pain. I didnt realize how much stuff is in the database. I had looked thru it and did a search but the info I needed didnt seem to be there. Guess I just needed to spend more time in it. One more question though...If I install any of the weapons packs, dont they change the data.inis for some of the aircraft? I thought Bunyaps did that, dont know about the others. Wouldnt that undo the patch improvements?
