I agree that it's the decal itself, not the settings in the game. Maybe you could just do the insignia for the nations you fly most and see how it goes. In playing with decals, I've learned that the game will take whatever size the decal is, and stretch or shink it to fit the decal.ini setting, (In FE1 anyway.) So you should only have to change the decal. Sizes that are a power of 2 (128, 256. 512. etc) seem to scale better than other sizes. Many nations have Fuselage, and Tail markings in addition to the Insignia.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I like the Yugoslav insignia, sort of a cross between the Central Powers and Entente Powers insignia. I'm interested in the post-war Eastern European campaigns, I have decals made for Czechoslovakia, Urkraine, and Lthuania which I will probably include with future planes.

I have uploaded the Anatra DS "Anasal". Another Russian plane for First Eagles, this one is a two seater. I have included three skinning options, including a skin for post-war Yugoslavia, because I like the way the insignia look. I also included decals with Austro-Hungarian crosses painted over the Russian roundels, for the Anatras built by Austria-Hungary after they took the factory. My thanks once again to Ojcar for making the FM.

View File Anatra DS "Anasal" This version includes a new FM made by ojcar. The Anatra DS was a two seat Russian plane powered by a Salmson 9 cylinder, water cooled, radial engine. The plane was therefore called the "Anasal", short for "Anatra Salmson". When the Ukrainian city of Odessa was occupied by Austria-Hungary early in 1918, the Anatra factory was found intact and production continued as the "Anatra C.I". Many of the first Austrian versions had the Austrian cross painted over the Russian insignia. The Anatra was used mostly for reconnaissance, but also as a fighter and light bomber. Many of them survived the war and were used in the fighting in Eastern Europe after the end of World War I. In version 2 - I have included a loadout for a light bomb load and three skinning options - A generic Russian skin, and skins for two Russian squadrons - the 19th and the 4th squadrons with decals for the squadron tail markings. I have included my skinning templates for those who want make their own skins. In version 3 - I improved the details around the nose, completely reskinned the plane and cockpit, and corrected several problems with node names in the data file. New templates are included in the version 3 download. In version 4 - Ojcar has made a new FM for the plane. I have refined the wings and added some details. Old skins will still work with this revision. I have included the old skinning templates with the download. Historical Notes: I found several sources which said that Anatras carried a machine gun mounted on the fuselage for the pilot. I couldn't find any details of the mounting, so I guessed where it might be located. Credits: My thanks to Ojcar once again for making a new data.ini file for this revision of the plane. Installation instructions: This revision replaces previous versions. If you have an older version, please delete it, then install the new version. For FE1: Unzip the file and move the folder named "AnatraDS" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. For FE2: Unzip the file and move the folder named "AnatraDS" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Aircraft folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create a new folder named "AnatraDS". Move the folder named "D" from the Aircraft/AnatraDS folder into the Decals/AnatraDS folder you just made. Submitter Stephen1918 Submitted 11/01/2011 Category Other Entente Aircraft

More than 100 were built for Austria. After the war, several of them ended up with Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, so it seems likely they were used on all the Austrian fronts. Using the Anatra as an Austro-Hungarian plane in the Italian Campaign would definitely be realistic.
-
Austria-Hungary took possession of Odessa, where the Anatra factory was located, late in 1917. They continued building them and called them the Anatra CI. They made quite a few of them. I will have a skin with the Austrian cross painted over the Russian insignia.

I'm working on the Anatra, a Russian 2 seater. I have it built and rigged, I'm working on the cockpit and skins now. Several sources mentioned a gun mounted on the front for the pilot, but I could find no photos of it. This seemed like a logical place for it.

This is great. I've never seen an explosion like that in First Eagles. How did you manage to capture that?

Oops, my mistake. Correcting it now... ... the download has been corrected. Thanks for pointing this out.

I uploaded the Voisin LAS this afternoon. This plane has a lot of options. I have provided decals for the Italian underwing panels and for the Russian tail stripes. There are four bomb loadouts, ranging from light to very heavy bombs. And Ojcar has provided two data.ini's, one for the 150HP Salmson engine, and one for the 120HP engine. My thanks to Ojcar for making the FMs and for helping me get the crew positioned in the cockpit (I managed to get the window in the floor with his help.) My thanks also to Sinbad, 33Lima, and Dreamk for providing me with resources and reference material.

View File Voisin LAS - 2 pack The Voisin III was developed in 1914 and used throughout the war. It was produced in large numbers and was used by all the Entente powers. Although it was originally used as a fighter, reconnaissance, and ground attack plane, it was most commonly used as a bomber later in the war. My version is the Voisin LAS with a full chord lower wing, a 9 cylinder water-cooled Salmson engine, and an 8mm Hotchkiss magine gun mounted on a tripod over the pilot. Ojcar has created two data.ini's for the Voisin LAS, one for the 120hp engine, and one for the 150hp engine. For your convenience, I have created a completely separate plane for each. The models, decals and skins are the same, but the data.ini's and loadouts are different, with lighter bomb loads for the 120hp plane. I have included three skinning options for each plane, identical except for the decals. The Italian Linen uses the Italian insignia with red and green underwing panels. The Russian Linen uses the Russian insignia and includes stripes on the tail planes. The Standard Linen can be used for all the other Entente powers. This plane uses the national markings that come with First Eagles, so you can easily change nationalities (in the Standard Linen skin only.) I have included my skinning templates. I have also included decals for serial numbers which will be applied randomly. There doesn't seem to be any standard way for the Voisin to carry its bombs, so I have included several loadouts with different sized bombs carried in different positions, with appropriate weights for each plane. (The loadout names are based on the size of the bombs, not the total loadout weight.) Historical Notes: The serial numbers are fictious, but in the correct range for the Voisin LAS. The Russians used different national markings on the tail planes, If you use my Russian skin, you will have white, blue, and red stripes on the tail planes. If you use the Standard skin for the Russians, you will get roundels on the tail planes. Credits: My thanks once again to Ojcar for making two excellent data.ini files for this plane. Thanks also to Sinbad, 33Lima, and Dreamk who provided reference materials for the Voisin LAS. Version 2 - Ojcar has created a new FM which improves the fighting performance of the AI. A fake machine gun has been added which causes the pilot of AI planes to be more active in pursuing enemy aircraft. Installation instructions for the new gun are in a separate file. Installation instructions: For FE1: Unzip the file and move the two folders named "Voisin3_120" and "Voisin3_150" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Airplanes folder. For FE2: Unzip the file and move the two folders named "Voisin3_120" and "Voisin3_150" into the FirstEagles/Objects/Airplanes folder. Then in the FirstEagles/Objects/Decals folder, create two new folders named "Voisin3_120" and "Voisin3_150". Move the folder named "D" from the Airplanes/Voisin3_xxx folders into the corresponding Decals/Voisin3_xxx folders you just made. To install the gun, follow the instructions in the file named "InstructionsForInstallingGuns". Submitter Stephen1918 Submitted 10/14/2011 Category Other Entente Aircraft

Hello Ojcar. Yeah, I've been playing with that. Moving the pilot too much interferes with the gunner and moving the gunner interferes with how much he can move. I tackled the gunner problem first because I thought having him move was more important. Now I'm playing with a combination of altering the pilot's position and also altering the 3D to get room for a window. If nothing else, I can paint the window in the exterior view, but have a real window in the cockpit view. I'll keep working on it, but I'll use the paint if all else fails.
-
It would be relatively easy to make a data file where the gunner's gun is controlled by the pilot, but the gunner wouldn't move. I just suggested balloon hunting because I thought the Voisin would do better against a stationary target, but it appears that isn't possible in First eagles. We might be better off accepting that the Voisin is a good bomber, but not a good fighter, and let it go. For the window in the floor, I am still playing with the details of the Voisin. The First Eagles pilot has his feet right there, I had to put a bulge into the floor to keep his feet from sticking out the bottom of the plane. I would like to get a window in there, but I haven't fgured it out yet. Stephen1918

I see what you mean, I tried a few balloon missions and the gunner never fired. The plane already has a light bomb load, so that might work against balloons.
-
I've been playing with the Voisin gunner a lot. His motion is limited by the fact that I can't animate his body and his feet end up sticking out the side of the fuselage. A gun on the upper wing is even more limited in its motion. A gun for the pilot won't move at all. After trying a lot of configurations, I think the tripod over the pilot is the best configuration with the best amount of motion. This plane won't be a good fighter, but it will be good for balloon busting and ground attacks.
-
I like the earlier planes too. You're right about them being outclassed, but usually only as dogfighters. They could still deliver a bomb load, make aerial observations, and attack ground targets right until the end of the war, even if they couldn't out maneuver a later plane in a one-on-one dogfight. I find that if I set the date in the Mission Screen to 1915 or 1916, they were quite good airplanes.
-
I have the Voisin built and rigged. I ended up doing 4 loadouts with bombs ranging from twelve 75mm (4.5 kilo) up to four 115mm long (20.2 kilo). Two loadouts are racked on the sides, and two are racked underneath. Getting the bombs to fit between the landing gear cross wires took some imagination, but I think it's realistic. I'm just starting the cockpit. I haven't done any skinning yet. And I'm still tweaking the gunner.

Thanks for the generous offer DreamK. For now I'm going to concentrate of building my own planes.
-
Thanks DreamK, this clears things up a lot. I've been using photos of the LAS in Paris as my primary refernce. http://www.wwi-models.org/Photos/Fre/Voisin/index.html Very similar to the Italian V.589 shown in 33Lima's scans. With a horizontal mounted Salmson 140(?) hp engine (not tilted) and with a Hotchkiss machine gun. Your 3D models are great! Are you planning to bring them into First Eagles?
-
Thanks guys, this helps a lot. It looks like I'll be doing two loadouts. I've also noticed differences in wings and other details from plane to plane. Maybe because of different manufacturers or because of field modifications. Mine will be an average (actually I'm including the features I like ) Thanks for the help. Stephen1918

Thanks gentlemen, this is helpful. Any ideas on how many bombs or what weight? Sinbad - I don't have the datafile, but I did find some of those photos online. The last one has nice details of the undercarriage just barely visible. 33Lima - I may need to do two loadouts, one for side mounted bombs and one for bombs underneath. A scan or two would be helpful, but don't damage your book to get it. The verbal description is very helpful.
-
I'm researching the Voisin III and I'm finding conflicting information about the bomb loads - somewhere between 200 and 300 lbs. I also don't know how the bombs were carried, under the fuselage? or internal? Can anyone help or direct me to some good resources? Photos or sketches of the bomb racks or with bombs loaded would help a lot. Thanks Stephen1918

While making my last few planes, I learned a lot about how First Eagles handles the decals. Because I was getting tired of seeing a squadron of my older planes all with identical markings, I made decal sets for some of them. I made a set of letters for the Aviatik-Berg D.I, the Phönix D.II, and the Phönix D.IIa which you can set in the Loadout screen. For the Lloyd C.II I made a set of serial numbers which the game will apply randomly. They all have installation instructions for both FE1 and FE2. All the decal sets are available for individual download in the Download-Skins area. I also updated all four planes in the Download-Aircraft area so if you download them after today, the decals will be included. My apologies to Dave the moderator who had to review and approve all the uploads in the same afternoon. Thanks Dave.
