Bulk file converter reccomendations?
Menrva replied to Spudknocker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I have PS Elements 7 and it doesn't handle the .tgas properly too, I mean I can't touch the alpha channel since it doesn't show it, so I use other alternatives like Paint.NET with user-made plug-ins. Back to topic, I use XnView for my conversions from .bmp to .jpeg; you can even set the quality of the compression, I always set it to 100% in order to keep max details but with less space thanks to how the .jpeg works. You can select lots of files, even 400 or more, and it works, rarely crashed in the past, the last version should be more stable indeed. -
Graphics Problem
Menrva replied to tiopilotos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, graphics card drivers are the problem. Many have posted similar threads around here, the latest nVidia drivers (I assume you have nVidia, if ATI then I have no clue) are creating these issues, you'd better revert to old ones until the nVidia guys fix all this mess. I have an old GeForce 310, and I'm forced to stay with 341.81 drivers, old ones but working, after all I don't play new games these days. -

We need these ?
Menrva replied to russouk2004's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Man, I didn't know that, and I'm building a terrain myself, I should have known this, lol, thanks for the heads up. Yeah, my apologies russouk2004, I know you're an expert modeler, I knew you got it right. BTW thanks for including both woodland and desert skins, some ground objects did miss them in the past. -

It looks great, very polished and detailed! The Abrams seems to me a bit too big in dimensions, especially if compared to the TOD buildings of the terrain, but I might be pretty wrong. Keep up the good work! -

The CGI Air Combat Art by Japanese Artist Masaru Tochibayashi (aka "Tochy")

Interesting! And moreover the video posted above makes good use of the Ace Combat Zero soundtrack, one of my favourites. -

Good news that the pilot is safe. Planes are expendable, pilots/crew aren't. -
Flashing textures, anyone have a cure?
Menrva replied to davido53's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
In fact I'm stuck with my very old GeForce 310, for which the latest available driver is the 341.81 IIRC, for Win10 x64. I've never experienced the problems described in this thread, I'm lucky to have an old video card it seems. I hope the guys at nVidia fix these problems with the recent drivers, or I fear that SF2 without a patch won't live easily for the guys with the latest hardware and Microsoft's OS. -
3D Max gone (solved)
Menrva replied to 76.IAP-Blackbird's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Oh man, this doesn't seem right at all. How about an antivirus/anti-malware scan? It's like someone is remotely controlling your PC, and was kind enough to fix the LOD before uninstalling 3D Max. Jokes aside, is your 3d Max properly registered? I have heard that Microsoft can disable counterfeit programs or ones which probably were not activated properly (due to some errors in the system registry), but IIRC this only applies to software available at the Windows Store, so it is not your case. Sometimes, it depends on the rather old software; my DAEMON Tools Lite (although the version I have is Win10 compatible) keeps asking me for a correct activation of the free license on my system, it's like it doesn't recognize my system or the Win10 key (I did upgrade from my preinstalled Win7 to Win10). Anyway Win10 has serious issues, and the recent updates for Win7 and Win8 brought the very same issues with them, I have heard. Glad that you solved the problem, though, but indeed it's a mystery, the guys at Microsoft like making such 'games'. -
My apologies if I seemed prententious, I didn't want to give history lessons to anyone, of course. I'm well aware of the other bad things which the said dictators did (for instance the Reichstag fire staged by the Nazis was one of the first cases of false flag operations IIRC). In my post I was thinking more about the propaganda and the role that it played in gaining a wider audience. The stronger control of mass media (at that time the use of radios etc.) enabled the dictators to speak their truth in place of others who held other, real truths. Today's globalized world, or as Snailman stated, a rootless, nationless, individualist mass of (preferably single) people (I don't care about 'mixed', cause seriously some countries are already like that for almost a century), is drifted away from some problems, or at times is given other issues by the mass media (once here in Europe they were talking all about the Ebola crisis in Western Africa, now not even a notion of what is happening, even though that crisis is still on). I agree with you Snailman, regarding how this world is getting (different cultures of each nation are disappearing), but I don't think it's just Anarchy, Communism, or whatever you want. The powers that be use whatever state system is in use to carry on its aims. Hence why I said politicians did fail, they were like tools in the hands of the real, hidden rulers of this planet, not more different than soldiers in the hands of glory hound generals. They probably succeeded for their own benefit, but failed for the common good, or at least at finding compromises for the majority of people, as you can't really fully do what a class of people asks/begs you to do. Now it's just a fight between 'dogs', the poor people here in The West without future or job, and the immigrants trying to find a new home here. I said senseless bloodshed, because I do not want to see the horrors of WWII ever again, otherwise it's clear that the current situation is already a bloodshed, but that is the result of the West's aggressive foreign policy in the past years. I can't really blame who's coming here. Don't get me wrong though, while I criticise the wars done in the past, I don't understand why we are letting ISIS continue its conquest of the Middle East and possibly North Africa and Horn of Africa, while it is also gaining money and resources thanks to the control of human trafficking in the Mediterranean . Well, actually I have an idea as to why this is happenening. Thanks for replying btw, Snailman. We might disagree about something as I still have little hopes in politics, or part of it, but I really like to discuss such matters and to understand them. Anyway you are right about Orwell, he gives most of the answers we all are in need of.

Menrva replied to russouk2004's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
The level of detail is so amazing, it is times better than the old models we currently have. Will they come with desert skins too? Good eyes, CrazyhorseB34. How about a fictional M1A3 then? If russouk2004 can edit the model to make it more accurate, he can always keep the one as it is for a fictional M1A3 unit to add in the game. I know that Uncle Sam is working or planning to work on a real A3 upgrade, but we can pretend a little for now. -
I'm not an American but I'm very interested in politics, from what I've seen I do not trust Trump. Anyone who proposes simple solutions to difficult problems only tries to play the biggest trick on history, by telling lies and such. Does anyone here remember how dictators like Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and such got to power? With ideas like, let's erase the debt we have with the other countries, let's eliminate/remove/block those who oppose us, let's fight immigrants and/or foreigners who (all of them, according to such minds) bring crime and poverty. Of course I'm not comparing Trump to those dictators, those were serious while I do not think Trump really is, he doesn't seem to really believe in what he says (in the video he talks about the recommission of the USS Iowa by chance, or at least it's my impression). I'm not impressed at all that he is getting so much attention, the flock of sheeps always goes to the biggest voice, if you understand what I mean. I'm just wondering why he does want to become POTUS. It can't be just for power, there's something else, I feel. I do not even take into account Hillary Clinton, so I'm more interested in Bernie Sanders. Ok, I know he is a socialist and that the word 'socialist' is almost like a cancer (for instance, in my country the Socialists brought the first big cases of corruption in politics), but it depends on the meaning one man, or the entire party, gives to that word. For instance, Stalin claimed to be a Communist, the US addressed the Soviets as Commies, but in reality there is an ocean between the USSR and the utopian theories by Karl Marx and Engels. There is too much chaos IMHO, both here in Europe and in the US. I've almost reached the sad conclusion that democracy isn't always a good thing, Mussolini got to power thanks to lies and democracy, and brought shame to what is now my peaceful country. If you look at the news, there is stronger nationalism in many countries in Europe, new walls (Hungary for instance) which remind of the Berlin one, politicians/madmen who take advantage of real problems and give scapegoats to the more enraged and poorer population. My apologies, I think I have strayed way too far from the thread's topic, but I'd like to know what others think about it, if we have to worry about the current situation or not. The politicians we used to have till today have obviously failed under many circumstances, but by giving power to new dictators we will just get five minutes of joy, and then subsequent years of senseless bloodshed.

Iran-Iraq war

Here are some in-game screenshots of the Euphrates river: Turkey, Ataturk Dam (although with no 3d model of a dam) and following rivers: Bonus screenshot, new night sky colours (work in progress): -

Menrva replied to Centurion-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
EDIT: In my post above it seems I ended with "this is my plan". I was actually planning to say what it was but then I decided not to, forgetting to remove that line, so well now there it is: 1) I must tile the terrain completely and add all the eye-candy. 2) After that, the heightmap will get the same treatment (atm rivers look bad in the areas surrounded by mountains). 3) Finally, I'll correct the targets placement (targets in cities with rivers especially), and the runways heading according to RL satellite images. 4) Then the terrain should be complete or in beta state, no ETA for all of this though. -

Menrva replied to Centurion-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Ok guys, good news and bad news. The bad news is that next Monday I start my university lessons, and RL and duty come first. The good news is that whenever I have free time I'll be working on this terrain/project only. Seeing the results of my hard work and the useful input received by some of you, I'm determined to make sure that this terrain gets completed as we need it. Enough chit-chat, here's the progress made with the TFD Tool, I'm adding all possible rivers and water bodies (lakes etc.), still many are missing (Mesopotamia is such a fertile area). Some rivers in Iran, north of Ahvaz Euphrates river and Tharthar Lake Euphrates, between the Syrian-Turkish border Euphrates through Nasiriyah No in-game shots because I didn't dare, some areas need to be flattened for the rivers to appear properly, and I'll edit the .HFD only after having completely tiled the terrain. You may notice some transition tiles are not properly placed, those are some remnants of the autotiling done by the Terrain Editor, they'll be fixed. The Tigris river will be the next addition I make, consider that it took me almost a week (full of free time) to properly add the Euphrates. I try to be as accurate as possible in order to reproduce the correct river courses, thanks to satellite imagery by Google Earth. Tomorrow, if I can, I'll take some screenshots at the terrain as it is, I really need to see my work in-game. This is my plan; -
Of course I hope it is a gag, I can't really think of someone pre-purchasing with such dates. I think it's also some parody of today's bad habit, IMHO, of pre-purchasing things, it's like you are financing the development of the product; everyone who does pre-purchasing should be listed in the credits list at least alongside the publisher and the developer.

Mi-28 with a moped noise
Menrva replied to leodagan76's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
And moreover, listing the additional sounds in the soundlist.ini file inside the flight folder should help fix the problem too, IIRC. Don't worry leodagan, I thought you were talking about the Mi-8, but who flies that helo? Indeed it was the Mi-24. -

Menrva replied to leodagan76's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
It's just a typo, he meant the Mi-8, since he stated it was included in the recent India-Pakistan campaign package by eburger68, and that mod does indeed have it. -
blank terrain, card settings?
Menrva replied to slick cowboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Bad issue indeed. Are you playing on Windows 10? Moreover make sure you revert the the previous nVdia drivers, I've heard the latest ones have created some big problems. PS: I'm playing with a crappy GeForce 310, I'm stuck unfortunately with the old v341.81 drivers, but no issues like the ones above. -

I'm happy not to own ACAH (just seen it in walk-throughs on YouTube), that was a huge step backward for the series. Probably they wanted to catch a wider audience like Crap of Duty games. If only I had a more powerful PC, I could use an emulator to play the PS2 ones properly. However I enjoy watching walk-throughs of these old but gold ones on YouTube, their storylines are still great and emotional despite the years. Now Top Gun 2 needs to have a decent storyline; today's setting of the US against Russia, of most games and movies, has really annoyed me. -

What the hell? Who did the video added to it one of the tracks of the Ace Combat Assault Horizon soundtrack (the soundtrack was the only good thing from it). I don't think it's in the movie itself, or did they dare steal the soundtrack? Cool scene nonetheless, but it really seems it got inspired by ACAH, the urban chaos scene is similar to one of the missions from that crappy game. Anyway they like making movies of this type in Asia. I wish there are some with subtitles since they are not available in English, are they? Once I did find a Chinese movie about the J-20 IIRC, with ENG subtitles, though. PS: Please, can someone make a decent movie about the Ace Combat PS2 era? A fictional world, but way better than ours -

Look Wrench, here is the link to the update you did to the Wyvern: http://combatace.com/files/file/15392-sf2-westland-wyvern-s4-tweeks-pak/ And this is a must have skin pack for the very same plane, by Paulopanz: http://combatace.com/files/file/13771-westland-wyvern-s-4-definitive-skin-pack/ PS: Thank the search function, it saves a lot of time BTW I missed the re-mod of the FJ Fury that Russ and you did, gotta find it. -
Awesome shots! They could give an inspiration to make a fictional campaign in SF2 with the F-22s and the DBS terrain.
