No excitment or benefit really - but when you purchase a new ATI card that's what you get. Sounds wonderful doesn't it? But no games that I play use those features.

Yea, I'm back. Got my new box , so that's the good news. I am running W7 - full specs below and trying to get the settings right. I went w/ Olhams settings - unchecking all overrides - and his CCC settings as well. Sliders are set to (from memory) 553343 w/ normal rez skins and medium terrain. Frame cap set to 40 Testing w/ fraps has been uneven - as high as 38 average to as low as 27 - and choppy too. I believe that the low frames may be weather related although it is hard to tell as I get different weather conditions each time I test - although sunny days appear to be more FPS friendly. Things I've yet to try: - Setting .EXE files to XP Compatibiity - Using AMD Fusion software - Installing DirectX9 - Adding back in overrides - Lowering framerate cap - Going from 10.2 to 10.3 CCC drivers ...any suggestions in general and can one of you suggest a testing method that would "isolate" the weather so I can see if that is indeed a major factor? Got mine on 3 and the terrain looks very good. Will post screens this weekend as I have not internet at home on my new PC at the moment - waiting for a new wireless modem to be delivered.

As Polovski said, OFF is based on actual history - not the kiddie pleaser version like the original CFS3 ("As real as it gets?" Yea, whatever. ). Is a single pilot "changing the course of the war" in anyway realistic? Even the great MvR had little real impact on the war (Although I'm sure those pilots he shot down would disagree ) Sorry to go off here but that approach is just dumb.

Cool - and I did find it in CCC - right after I found CCC - now added as a shortcut. I have driver version 10.2 and will go to 10.3 once get my settings sorted.

That did the trick - but the import from XP did not work. So I ended up remapping. Have no Zoom In choice - which is odd - but livable. Thanks.

TrackIR vs hat switch? There IS no comparison! With TrackIR you just "look around" - so simple, so natural. Ditto the advice on binding the VC view to the TIR center key.

...in the DirectX report? I have a new PC installed with an ATI card and when I run DX (ver 11 thoughtfully installed by CyberPower) I see a bunch of numbers that don't look anything like 10.2 or 10.3 (box was built last week so I figured they would use the latest drivers). Advice? ...and sorry for all the nit questions. By Saturday I plan to have OFF fully set-up/tested/seasoned to taste and then, you know, I'll do some actual flying.

Agreed: - Start in QC w/ a one on one flying a particular type against a particular type - master that - Then fly the same type against other types - master that - Then do 1 vs 2 - try to master that - Then 5 v 5 furballs - stay alive - Then do a campaign in 1917 / 1918 - cause that's where the action is.

I hear ya Duce - my kids play all manner of PS3 games (Gods of War III is the latest) and I just don't get the artificial levels/health bars/find the key/etc. approach that all these games seem to...um..."feature". I play OFF for the historical fidelity and for the thrills - but in that order - so I cannot wrap my head around the console experience.

Got my new PC. Installed OFF/HitR per Uncleals instructions - no issues. Installed my Logitech stick and CH peddals - no issues. But...I want to copy over my saved copy of the Mine.xcs file - as I do NOT want to go through the hassle of setting up the controllers again (hey, I'm funny that way ) Anyway, I cannot find the location/file in Windows 7. So, basic question; Where the heck is it so I can replace it? PS - enlisted a pilot, fired up a campaign mission, tested the stick and peddals in sim and all worked OK. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info all. New box has arrived. No loose parts. Only issue was I pulled the cover fan power cord out opening the box up to check. Fixed that after rooting around for the small power connector. Fired it up and started w/ no problems - I like the W7 interface - very clean. Only issue I have not OFF related is internet connectivity but I'll get that sorted tonight. Now I do have an OFF issue - but I'll start a new topic on that.

I never really liked the tactical flight games all that much (RTW, Knights of the Air, Flight Leader) as I usually played solitaire and - well - not much fun moving everything yourself. Also, the 2D nature of a board game just did not translate well for me into a 3D simulation. This is why I got into flight sims in the first place - to feel the real time 3D nature of air combat.
