Serperate Installs? How?
TeTeT replied to Viggen's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Two small things I do on a new copy: 1) Add modified INIs, like viewlist and huddata 2) Rename .exe appropriately, e.g. wov-steeltiger.exe -
What about trying it with: [strategicNode001] Area=Dong Hoi ConnectTo[001].Target=DMZ South West [strategicNode002] Area=DMZ South West ConnectTo[001].Target=DMZ South ConnectTo[002].Target=Dong Hoi [strategicNode003] Area=DMZ South ConnectTo[001].Target=Quang Tri ConnectTo[002].Target=DMZ South West and so forth. This way the nodes are all connected again and a path to base is created.

When you take a look at the unmodified WOVCAMPRT_DATA.INI, you'll see that Hanoi connects to Vinh Vinh connects to Hanoi Vinh connects to Khe Sanh Khe Sanh connects to Vinh Khe Sanh connects to Da Nang Da Nang connects to Khe Sanh Da Nang connects to Hue Hue connects Saigon Saigon connects to Da Nang So every ConnectTo is a one way step from that Node. The ConnectTo destination nodes are not followed as a path. I suspect that the computer tries to get to the opposing BaseArea, as specified in the [ForceXXX] section. So a unit starting in Hanoi will try to move via Vinh, Khe Sanh, Da Nang, Hue to Saigon. If you add one ground unit to the north and enable the ground offensive, then you will see that.

I started to change the ini's according to malibu43's suggestions. Seems to work ok with targettype=misc. However, the modified campaign still has the tendency to schedule strikes against the Noi Bai runway... I also found that the shipping route I set up between Haiphong and Vinh is used by trucks. I've added two Thai (USAF) units to Nakhon Phanom and Udon and hope this prevents the VC from infiltrating.

Did anyone notice that low flying laden F-105 crash in the country side with the new patch applied? I saw a flight of four F-105 skimming the trees and once they were in rugged terrain two of the four planes disappeared... The number one plane also had no bombs left. Is the minimum altitude too low with the new patch?

Flying the A-4 is quite nice. I like it for it's stable platform, it's great for learning bombing. It turns decently and I find scissors to be good for shaking off MiGs. The weapon load is for the size of the bird quite massive. On the downside, next to no acceleration and limited climb. I almost never go vertical. For survival, I reserve the right to chicken out on missions going Downtown. High threat environments with SAMs, AAA and MiGs lurking is best survived in the middle of a complete set of flights, running on your own is almost suicidal. -
Thanks MK2! This site is invaluable for the Wings series. Great job in keeping it up and alive over all those years.

Century Series

I guess that can be attributed to clever salesmen rather than on performance characteristics. In (West-)Germany at least the F-104 earned an awful reputation for falling out of the sky. But then, it was most likely not the worlds smartest idea to use a high altitude interceptor as a ground pounder. -
Excellent idea, makes them a bit more exposed. But please keep in mind that the camps are only around when they are targets. If you're scheduled for a strike Downtown, there will be usually no units around. I did test different supply levels and they do have an effect on the offensives. But I did run out of time before I found a very good setting. I had planned to create a much smaller campaign around Da Nang to focus on this aspect and see if it would be possible to get an attack going every few months.
