I implemented a free subscription plan for everyone to use but in a matter of two days it's already been abused. Giving the public a free file and they create multiple free accounts to get more free things. Program ended today, thanks for playing. I will create a better way to do this and until then the subscriptions are back to non-free only. Sorry about that, I really did have the best intentions, unfortunately some people think differently. ::deep sigh::

I feel your pain mate, you try to do something decent, and there is always some scrotebag who takes the effing piss !! I hope you ban those who do this. As if a basic sub is terribly expensive either.....Wankers mate.

The free subscription was a good thing, really. When I saw it, I said to myself, "This is it. Members who can't afford paying or can't [for] any reason, this is their ticket home." But as always, there are some that don't think of others except themselves and will do anything because they are greedy.

ya know, i was in favor of limits on all subscriptions except 1 yr. say 3 a day  trail, 5 a day 1 month etc

but since you are not, i give people that gripe elsewhere the advice to make a list of what they want, get a trial subscription, and spend the next two days getting stuff. at 6.95, thats more than many people spend on a coffee or a fast food lunch.

if you cant afford that, then you probably got bigger problems than getting mods for a flight sim

The problem, sometimes, isn't the money; people just like to get anything for free, and they will do anything to go around the rules. Thinking they are smart, but in the long run, they are hurting the majority. With that, they are leaving no other option for the site owner, as he will not be able to pay for the experience of keeping the site, and everyone will lose.

I myself did what @daddyairplanes suggested and downloaded everything I needed.

Its not dead, it's a premature roll out that ended horribly. I'll retool and get something out. I've got too much to do at the moment to devote time there so it'll have to wait. Sad that I was too naive, won't happen again. I agree with giving to the community just not at the rate they want to take it.

subscription no. the modders have not had to pay so far since we are the ones providing the content. we did offer to pay and get subscriptions earlier in the year to help out and were told without us there wouldnt be anything to download

that said, i do donate when i can. thank you, your post reminded me to drop some more change in the bucket

i dont think so. it has the potential to be a loaded an mean question, but i'll take it at face value. a lot of folks can wonder if im taking my own advise, and truth is no. but im running a different set of circumstances. 

i did aply the same logic to getting a Paramount+ subscription so that i could watch football games. its 7.99 a month, which equates to one less Burger King trip per month when im out and about.

in the end its a mix of what you can afford, and what you want to pay. if folks want mods bad enough, making a plan and spending the same amount as a lunch to get everything they want over two days isnt that bad of a deal. and Erik gets a little more money in the war chest to keep this community going.

As someone that uses the free subscription, I am extremely disappointed in the other people that ruins it for others and abuses it. Erik, I want to say that I am grateful for the free plan, and I appreciate you working on a fix so people will stop abusing it. Thank you for doing this for the community I am sorry people had to ruin it for the rest of us. Keep up the good work I and many others appreciate it.

Why not just a bandwidth limit what kind of hosting arrangements do you have?

What about a minimum registered time for downloads? Nothing too onerous, say 3 months? Or maybe you have to be a contributor to discussions? Hell you could even make each user fill in a form, or ask you in person @Erik

There's genius in this statement. The great part is that it folds into what I was thinking. The only sticky part is how many accounts exist that would automatically defeat that rule do we have and how do you weed them out? We'd almost have to dump the entire user base which would destroy our content and dis-associate it. So, making everyone sign up again can't be the solution. However, if we used this in conjunction with some of the things I was thinking it could have the impact we need. I'm not going to get everyone that abuses the system but I gotta get the lion's share.

There are good people that just want to download files, I get that and I understand. But there are others that are on a mission. It's the typical one kid in class ruins it for everyone else.

We'll survive.
