gnavarrete053 Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 Hello, I have been thinking about this for many years, but I have never spoken about it before. I want to create a major mod about the Beagle Channel conflict between Chile and Argentina in 1978. I would appreciate any help regarding vehicles, maps, or anything else. 1
+yakarov79 Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 It is a long way to creating a mod. First, you should collect all available knowledge and data regarding vehicles, maps, and everything else that might be useful in the process of creating a mod. Then find people whose hearts will beat faster when you tell them about your mod, and share your knowledge with them in the newly created inner 'Beagle' circle. And then all goes quite easily. But I might be wrong. It is just my personal experience here in CA.
+Gepard Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 Never heared about that conflict. But no problem at all. My 2 cents about that idea: pro: there are enough airfields in that area to make a proper air war Planes and camos for that conflict are available Vehicles should not the big problem. contra: making the terrain would be enormous time consuming, because the coastline is formed by hundreds of firthes, which must mostly created by hand As basic tileset, the IslandNA tileset would fit, but it must increased by a lot of new made tiles, what needs a lot of time I guess it would need more than a year to make this terrain properly.
+Stratos Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 Long time since I last checked, but is not the area included in the Malvinas mod?

solci1965 Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 Hello, there was no war between Argentina and Chile in 1978. Both countries mobilized forces but there was never a war. It may be a what if mod of course. I was 13 and was there. 2
+Gepard Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 A terrain could look so: While the east - west distances are more or less correct, the north south distances are to short. The reason is, that the DEM database, which covers the heightfield data of the world are warped. As closer you come to the poles the warp effect becomes bigger and bigger. 1
+Gepard Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 Quick made terrain. Only 2 bases, one for each side, plus a argentinian carrier station. If there is an interesse on this Beta terrain i could release till end of the year. This could be a basic for others who could add more target areas and could create new tiles for towns or so. 4 1
solci1965 Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 I still remember seeing a train carrying Shermans (!!!!!!!) on my way to school. And I believe the F-86s we had were still in service back then. 3
+Wrench Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 Damn, Gepard!! That's some quick work, even for a Beta!!!! 4
redwood Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 Very interesting topic and terrain - would love to see this fully fleshed out. Great work so far! 1
3-A-305 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 (edited) A few years ago (almost 15....), when we were still flying SFP1, we, in the spanish forums, created a very similar map to fly online, carry out cooperative missions, and conduct virtual tactical exercises among the air forces of Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. We also planned to include Spanish forum members with their F-18s and Eurofighters. The terrain was in a beta–minimal version, but we actually managed to test it online. I even remember an “accident” while landing in Ushuaia because we hadn’t leveled the air base terrain yet… ouch!! We kept working on it for a while longer, but when SF2 was released and online flying was lost—together with a drop in the number of interested people—the idea gradually faded into oblivion. We had also evaluated the idea of a complete MOD, considering the possibility of creating three terrains: the SOUTH, a NORTH one that included the border area between Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina, and one for the central region. We managed to do some work on both the SOUTH and NORTH terrains; the CENTRAL terrain was never started. In any case, these ideas were always handled within the realm of “what if” fiction, so we used to exaggerate quite a bit and include some very far-fetched situations. https://combatace.com/forums/topic/37391-wing-over-patagonia/ https://combatace.com/forums/topic/60269-sudops-ejercicios-conjuntos/ Edited December 29, 2025 by 3-A-305 3
+Gepard Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 Some target areas on Tierra del Fuego. Only placeholders with one warehouse and a Flak each, to test whether Strike, SEAD, RECON, INTERCEPT missions will work. You see the blue stripe in the middle. It is the place of a lake (name forgotten, sorry i'm not familiar with this part of our world). Here i must do still a lot of tiling and height setting by hand. Some screenshots of Rio Grande Air Base. 14 1
+Gepard Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 Ushuaia Airport (left) and Ushuaia Naval Air Station (right) Only the Airport is made operational in game. I doubt, that the AI can handle the mountains north of the Naval Air Station, thatwhy it is made only as eyecandy. The runway of the airport is shorter than in real life, but otherwise it would not fit. 4
solci1965 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 Bravo! This terrain will be a great addon! F-86, Hunters, F-5, A-4, Mirages, Canberras, A-37, a lot of planes.
3-A-305 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 (edited) Quote I doubt, that the AI can handle the mountains north of the Naval Air Station Indeed, the Ushuaia Naval Air Station was an air base where flying operations were particularly hazardous. Pilots and passengers who flew there at a time when it was the only available airport recall that landing on that runway was an impressive—and daunting—experience. The Argentine Navy's T28Fs, which were the true operators of that field base during the crisis, were missing. Edited December 30, 2025 by torno 8
+Gepard Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 Planning Map: 3 argentinian airbases, 2 chilean airbases All target areas on Tierra del Fuego: Some screenshots of Porvenir Airport, Chile Here the small argentinian airfield Tolhuin (i hope that is correct) This base i made a little bit longer than in reality. Otherwise the planes were unable to take off from this base. I also had to be creative with the take off positions of the planes. I hope, that i can release it till tomorrow. At the moment i'm on testing the terrain. Known issues: I have not checked the coastline, so you will surely find "water climbing the hill". The very most target areas are only populated with 1 warehose and 1 Flak. The complete area north of Tierra del Fuego i have not touched. The tileset i took from IslandNA terrain, which is outdated by todays standards. (256x256 pixel tileset instead modern 1024x1024) It is a first and quick try to make the terrain. It is completly operational, but need a lot of work to finish it (New tileset, checking the long coastlines, populating the target areas .....) 4 1
+Wrench Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 (edited) If I may suggest that within the release, you might include the Terran Editor for that terrain, with the necessary tiles and such like. That way, one of our few remaining terraformers could pick it up more easily. Would save a lot of time and effort! Edited December 30, 2025 by Wrench spelling correction 1
+GKABS Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 I completely agree with Kevin; that's a great idea.
+Gepard Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Feuerland alias Tierra del Fuego terrain i have uploaded now. Waiting for the Okay of an Admin. Here the ReadMe: Feuerland alias Tierra del Fuego terrain 1.0 ***************************************************************************** ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This terrain is written for SF2NA and SF2E or SF2I or SF2V. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I. Short description: This terrain covers the south of South America and is focused on Tierra del Fuego. The timeframe of the terrain is from 1960 to 2030 It is a two nations map: Argentina and Chile. It is made as a NavalMap so that you can fly carrier missions against Chile. You can fly following missions: SWEEP,CAP,ESCORT,INTERCEPT,STRIKE,SEAD,ANTI_SHIP,RECON,CAS,ARMED_RECON The terrain works best in a separate South America installation, otherwise you will find a lot of soviet planes and FLAK. How to do a separate installation please look in the SF2 Knowledgebase in CombatAce forum. It is a fast made terrain with some issues: I have not checked the coastline, so you will surely find "water climbing the hill". The very most target areas are only populated with 1 warehose and 1 Flak. The complete area north of Tierra del Fuego i have not touched. The tileset i took from IslandNA terrain, which is outdated by todays standards. (256x256 pixel tileset instead modern 1024x1024) ********************************************************************************************* Use the terrain for own improvements. Feel free to modify this terrain. If you want to release your own improvments include that ReadMe file in your package and give me proper credit. For targetarea modifications you find in Mues Toolbox 0.2.1 some powerfull tools. https://combatace.com/files/file/15942-mues-toolbox/ For tile change or heightfield modifications use the old TerrainEditor by TK. I know it is a little bit tricky. Make sure to save the original file Feuerland_data.ini, becaus the TE overwrite it with a useless old version, which not really work in SF2 world. The https://combatace.com/files/file/6492-terrain-editor-2-versions/ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II. INSTALLATION: To run this terrain you need SF2NorthAtlantic and SF2 Israel or SF2 Europe or SF2 Vietnam. Unzip the folders Objects and Terrains into your saved game folder ...ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2XXXX Thats it. If you have SF2Europe installed you must do nothing more. If you miss SF2E and have SF2Israel you must open file Feuerland.ini with Notepad editor and look for the lines: //CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat change the entry into: CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat //CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat If you have SF2Vietnam, but no SF2 Europe then open Feuerland.ini with Notepad editor and look for the lines //CatFile=..\VietnamSEA\VietnamSEA.cat CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat change the entry ino: CatFile=..\VietnamSEA\VietnamSEA.cat //CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat save the file ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III. Credits. Tileset is basing on IslandNA tileset. I made some new tiles. airfield components are taken from AirfieldDevKit_v1.1 made by Pureblue. Super-Sherman-M51 taken from SF2 tank package, original made by rebel ryder I hope i have not forgotten someone. . ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IV. This Terrain is Freeware. Commercial use is not allowed. And i say it again for the YAP, YankeeAirPirates file thiefs, the usage of this terrain and/or parts of the terrain for commercial use is not allowed!!!!! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V. For remarks, comments, bugs, etc please use CombatAce forum or send me a PM. Hope you enjoy it. Michael (Gepard) Made in Germany 31. Dezember 2025 1

In the terrain you find the folder Tileset with the file IslandNATexturelist. Should help. 1
