Just wanted to ask, is there a way to disable specific base game content (specifically maps and jets) without deleting them outright? I really want to curate the aircraft and map list to the theme and a few of the game’s jets, but mostly the maps, do not fit that theme

create an ini for that item, but have its contents blank

for example, the IsraelME.ini for the Israel terrain, but completely blank. or A-4E.ini, again completly blank

you could also just delete the items from your mod folder for personal use (it usually wont come back). but if youre making a mod to share and want folks to use a clean install (like ODS30AE) blank inis are a way

edit: saw this is a Gen1 question after posting. i believe it should still work. someone will be along shortly to correct me if im wrong

Gonna be so honest I just realized I accidentally posted this in the SF1 section

Thank you though, I’ll give it a shot

The other way is to create separate installations for different timeframes or war theaters. I have one for Asia, one for Europe, one for North Atlantic and one for South Atlantic, and one for WW2.

How to do this:

im sure 90% of the "default airplanes coming back" happens when the game tries to spawn a Red side aircraft of a country or timeframe and didnt found any match.

Not sure if this would help, but ironically enough it was created for the Gen1 series but should work in Gen2 no problem.  A looong time ago I was asked to create this custom program for Dave here which I remember he found helpful.  It basically allows you to set up scenarios to remove planes you don't want in the current install to a backup location, and then simply move them back once done.  It remembers "Favorites" so you can have a Favorite that selects say all WW2 aircraft and then moves them to a temporary backup location while you fly in the 90's era, etc.  Anyway, not sure if it helps but just putting it out there.

Is this sorcery available to the general public?

Sure!  It would be good to have a few beta users to see if it works for Gen2, and of course I could easily improve it with expanded capabilities as needed.  Anyone interested just PM me.

That seems intriguing.

The fix for that IS posted here someplace, because I wrote it. It goes something like this ...

"For example, we're building a WW2 ETO install. To the usual "create new mod folder steps, ESPECIALLY running it at least once before installing the 'new WW2 items.

Then, open the Objects folders, in particular /Aircraft and DELETE everything EXCEPT one Blue and one Red side aircraft. This allows the game engine to see and think all the others are there (I usually use the A-4B and Mig-21MF).

Now, go ahead and install all your WW2 goodies. YOu can leave the Ground Objects alone, unless you wish to remove the more modern ships. As they have user lists, your 1939-1946 year span will cause the game to ignore them"

and there you have it. I've been doing it that way for almost 20 years now, or whenever SF2 came out, and it works everytime.
