i was forced to give up my windows 7  , i had no more antivirus protection and if i installed any antivirus software some of my programs including SF2 was no longer working , the antivirus software  considered them as a threat

so i´m now on windows 10 pro 64 bit , and i got a big surprise when i launched my SF2 again , the first loading time is almost twice as long as with windows 7 and terrains i had no problem with are now a nightmare the game is loading up to 80% and than i got a CTD

i´m using a I7-4790K CPU with 4x4.00 GHz , 32GB RAM and a RTX 3060 with 12GB  that was always ok and i had no problems with them why i´m no encountering this problems with windows 10 , is windows 10 a downgrade to windows 7 ???

do i need to make some changes on some settings or how can i solve this ???

any help is welcome

What antivirus software? You can always add the game to the antivirus software's safe list; that way, it will ignore it and run without the antivirus software intervening.

Try this:

. Set Compatibility Mode: This is often the first and most effective step.

   · Right-click on your StrikeFighters2.exe file and select Properties.

   · Go to the Compatibility tab.

   · Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows 7 from the dropdown menu.

Also if that doesn't fix it try to make it use DirectX 9

You can do this by adding a command line parameter to the game's shortcut.

Here is the requested direction:

1. Locate the shortcut you use to launch Strike Fighters 2.

2. Right-click on the shortcut and select Properties.

3. In the Target field, you will see the path to the .exe file inside quotation marks (e.g., "C:\Program Files (x86)\Strike Fighters 2\StrikeFighters2.exe").

4. Click at the very end of this line, outside the final quotation mark, and add a space, followed by -dx9.

It should look like this:

"C:\YourGamePath\StrikeFighters2.exe" -dx9

Make a backup of the file before changing and i hope that will help you.

They ran in Win 10 and now Win 11.

These may no longer be relvent but I still do the following:

I still install them outside of the more protected areas like Program files and x86.

Tick Run in compatibility mode for Windows 7

Tick Disable Full screen optimisations

Tick Run this program as administrator

Am thinking Win / Xbox Game mode may need ot be turned off.

I see this has just been posted anyway.

Nice you finally moved on I see. It's good that you're flying at least though but I don't have much to offer than I ran things fine, though it does take a while to load on my Win 11 machine.

after a very long and painfull night i desidet to go back to my windows 7 , i may not have an antivirus for now but my SF2 is working and i can fly on all my terrains without getting a CTD or flying in a cockpit without textures

the loading time for SF2 is reduced by over 50% under windows 7 , NO CTD , and i can fly on all terrains that i have installed regardless what aircraft i choose , i´m not going back to windows 10 any time soon that is for sure , i rather quit modding

maybe i need a new hardware for this more moddern windows versions , i own a windows 11 but can not installe it on my current hardware , for the new hardware i have to spend around 1600 euro something that i dont have and i´m not willing to spend right now especially isince i dont know if SF2 will run without any problems

so for now i´m the old guy on windows 7 and i´m HAPPY with it , i´m back to modding now  :grandpa:

For me, the problem was caused by the gpu driver. I think I had to lower one of the Strike Fighters 2 graphic settings from Ultimate? That was using an nVidia 1080. Eventually, an update to the driver allowed it to run without issues.

One thing I learned going from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was upgrading the Windows 7 caused many headaches, particularly with USB 3 ports which was critical to my original Oculus VR headset. I ended up wiping the hard drive and using a clean Windows 10 install, which at the time still worked perfectly using the Windows 7 key to validate the free Windows 10 install even though Windows 7 was wiped off of the drive.

Right now, I am not only able to run SF2 on Windows 11, but can even implement primitive but functional VR using the 3rd party vorpX software with Stary's SF2 vorpX profile. With my 7900 XTX, performance is oustanding.
