+76.IAP-Blackbird Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 The XFV-12 looks little bit mixed up the canopy from A-4 intakes from a F-4 with the nosetip from something else.. but looks hot!

TX3RN0BILL Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 The XFV-12 WAS a mixup of F-4 and A-4 parts. Indeed. I wonder why it was never turned into a normal fighter - since its VTOL capability was unsuccessful but it's normal flight behaviour was rather good - I bet it could have made a beautiful A-4 replacement!
+Pancho Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 F7U Yeah, I know, the "Gutless Cutlass." Real widowmaker, but it would be a challenge.

Rambler 1-1 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) I hereby second the F4D. Wasn't it the NAVY's first supersonic intercepter? Also, that XFV-12 have canard foreplanes on the lower fuselage- bad idea, In a climb, you'll lose lift because the main wing will be in the turbulent wake of the foreplane, and at any angle of attack you could lose all lift from the main wing. According to NASA tests it would fly well enough in conventional flight though... only it's V/STOL characteristics were abysmal... Source @ Globalsecurity.org
