Tannethal Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 The stock base just didn't do justice to the real one. Started out after being impressed by the DaNang Mod and some pics from YAP. Groundwork was done using Flight simulator Scenery creator and Polaks Tutorial on conversion to useable Thrid wire format. Hope it will be impressive once everything is sorted out. Populating it with statics isn't really planned but should be doable, we will see. Working on the lights right now. And nope it's not Aviano AB. UBon RTAFB is the place, 1969 the timeframe, more or less. Anyone knows of a small mast, height 10-15 meters, painted red/white without any Antennas cables and preferably in LOD format? Would be usefull for the Floodlights. And anybody has a vertical surface LOD roughly 20x2 meters that can be textured with a tga. In dire need for the special writing. ;-) S! Quote
Wrench Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 There's a microware tower in the Factory place; that could be usable, but I think it's on the rather tall side, probably on the order of 20-30 meters in height. It's taller than the GuardTower1 by about 1/3rd. Look for 'satantenne' I, too, am looking for a large signpost/billboard..... Fracture had one started. Another question what color did the base street lights in NAM have? Slightly orange or flat white Sorry don't have a clue there? And settig taxi lights in a arc is a royal pain in the a$$. ;-) S! Wrench Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 the 'factory5' object is a small cylindrical tank laying on it's side, with a support structure (like a propane tank). It also as an emitter for a small smoke stream... I renamed it 'cryo-storage tank', like for LOX or LNitogen, kinda thing. Wrench Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 I'd watch out for that runway postioning....those hills are a little too high and a little too close. The AI has problems when landing near 'mountains'. Ran into this several times too many in SoCal, ASW, Modern Darwin, the WW2 map rebuilds, and now in the Libya rebuild. when they 'stack up' on their landing approach, they'll may fly right into them. Might want to 'lower' them somehow (perhaps by extending the 'flatten airfield' area by 3-5 km). Even in not geographacily accurate, it'll keep them from crashing on landing. Wrench kevin stein Quote

THose fuel tanks look a bit exposed there with the streetlights aound them, but hey, who an I to criticise? I ain't got the patience for a project like that. I tend to go a bit 'David Banner-ish' when things go wrong. It's looking great. Gonna be great eye candy when coming in to land.... Quote

Tannethal Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 Some things still bother me - the wrong Hangars on the ramp, should be a small two storey high peaked roof type, YAP might have them - no adequate revetments for the Spectres and no static model for them too - missing H-type barack for USAF base area As for the fuel tanks: no i didn't erect the at that place ;-) S! Still not the right type but closer in shape and size than stock Hangar1 or Hangar2. Did i already thank Gepard for his terrain work and the airfield objects. Wrench Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 (slaps self on forehead)!!!DoH!!! The "halle" the open one is halle3, IIRC. I spend so much time laying them out, I never stop to look at what they are. With a little tweeking of the targets ini, you could place parked aircraft inside them. I think I put some trucks in one, somwhere... And if you're really industrious, you could have internal lights suspened from the ceilings (like comprt's lit shelters) Wrench kevin stein Quote
