Does anyone happen to have good, reliable info on the Turkish F-4E-2020 or F-5-2000 upgrades? I could use it since I'm trying to mod those two aircraft for a long term campaign I'm working on.

Most of the stuff I have on the F-4E-2020 just says that it is able to carry smart bombs and designation pods. But, does it carry ARMAAM or have onboard ECM or countermeasures? What about a HUD?

As to the F-5-2000, I could use just about anything on it, as all I have is that IAI is the one doing the upgrades.

The Turkish F-4E-2020 Terminator was a joint upgrade by IEI and TuAF Logistics. It was based off of the Kurnass-2000, but with the most current avionics of the day.

On the other side, the Greek Peace Icarus was based off of the German ICE program, but included a significant A-to-G capability.

Just based off of what I've read about each aircraft, and this is purely my opinion, the Greek Phantom appears to be more flexible and more of a complete weapon system.

I've yet to see a Turkish Phantom, but the Greek jets looked sweet with the IFF blades and a targeting pod slung underneath. When I last saw one, it was at a TLP at Florennes and there were some German AF F-4Fs with them. You could definately make out which were which due to those smokeless engines.

Good luck!

I have a 2020 mod Sundowner did with a nice skin and other refinements to the model. Let me ask if it can be released.

Posted (edited)

Dave, thanks for those links. That really helped. If you can get it released, great, that would make my life easier, and give me more time to work on the F-5-2000. If not, well, I guess Ukraine is going to have to wait to get weapons for it's aircraft for a different part of this long term project...

EDIT: Wow, my internet is slow today!

I'm going to need a little bit of help with the F-5A-2000's avionics/cockpit. I want to add the HUD from the F-16A Block 15 BAF, but, I have no idea as to how to do that.

You have to add a HUD to the instruments list in the cockpit.ini

an example with the F-16A ADF :

Instrument[019]=RWR

Instrument[020]=RadarScope

Instrument[021]=HUD

then this entry below:

[HUD]

Type=HUD

NodeName=HUD

Then in the avionics.ini you have to copy the HUD related entries from the F-16´s avionics.ini and paste them F-5´s.

This is what you should copy and paste (a part of):

[HUD]

HUDColor=0.0,1.0,0.0,0.7

BoresightOffset=0.0,0.0

ViewportTopLeft=-0.125,-0.09

ViewportBottomRight=0.125,0.212

GunBoresightAngle=-0.50

RocketBoresightAngle=0

[HUDFont]

TextFontName=Arial

TextSize=11

TextBold=TRUE

[HUDModeNav]

Symbol[01]=HUD_FlightPath

Symbol[02]=HUD_AttitudeBars

Symbol[03]=HUD_HeadingScale

Symbol[04]=HUD_AirspeedScale

Symbol[05]=HUD_AltitudeScale

Symbol[06]=HUD_NavModeText

Symbol[07]=HUD_WaypointID

Symbol[08]=HUD_WaypointRange

Symbol[09]=//HUD_waterline

Symbol[10]=HUD_TD

Symbol[11]=HUD_G

Symbol[12]=HUD_LaserTarget

Symbol[13]=//HUD_BankIndicator

Symbol[14]=//HUD_GSymbol

Symbol[15]=//HUD_WPSymbol

Symbol[16]=HUD_Mach

Symbol[17]=HUD_RadarRange

Symbol[18]=HUD_CText

Symbol[19]=//HUD_ALT_LOW_TEXT

Symbol[20]=HUD_RadarAltText

Symbol[21]=HUD_ALText

[HUDModeAA]

Symbol[01]=HUD_FlightPath

Symbol[02]=HUD_AttitudeBars

Symbol[03]=HUD_HeadingScale

Symbol[04]=HUD_AirspeedScale

Symbol[05]=HUD_AltitudeScale

Symbol[06]=HUD_LCOS

Symbol[07]=HUD_TD

Symbol[08]=HUD_SRM

Symbol[09]=//HUD_Alpha

Symbol[10]=HUD_Mach

Symbol[11]=HUD_G

Symbol[12]=//HUD_AlphaSymbol

Symbol[13]=HUD_RadarRange

Symbol[14]=HUD_ASE_SRM

Symbol[15]=HUD_ASE_MRM

Symbol[16]=//HUD_BankIndicator

Symbol[17]=HUD_Max_G

Symbol[18]=//HUD_GSymbol

Symbol[19]=//HUD_MachSymbol

Symbol[20]=HUD_Guncross

Symbol[21]=HUD_AAModeText

Symbol[22]=HUD_RadarAltText

Symbol[23]=//HUD_RSymbol

Symbol[24]=HUD_ARMText

Symbol[25]=//HUD_ALText

Symbol[26]=HUD_CText

Symbol[27]=//HUD_ALT_LOW_TEXT

[HUDModeAG]

Symbol[01]=HUD_FlightPath

Symbol[02]=HUD_AttitudeBars

Symbol[03]=HUD_HeadingScale

Symbol[04]=HUD_AirspeedScale

Symbol[05]=HUD_AltitudeScale

Symbol[06]=HUD_CCIP

Symbol[07]=HUD_G

Symbol[08]=HUD_LaserTarget

Symbol[09]=HUD_RollIndicator

Symbol[10]=HUD_MavSeeker

Symbol[11]=//HUD_BankIndicator

Symbol[12]=//HUD_GSymbol

Symbol[13]=HUD_RadarAltText

Symbol[14]=HUD_Guncross

Symbol[15]=HUD_AGModeText

Symbol[16]=HUD_Max_G

Symbol[17]=HUD_Mach

Symbol[18]=//HUD_RSymbol

Symbol[19]=HUD_ARMText

Symbol[20]=//HUD_ALText

Symbol[21]=HUD_CText

Symbol[22]=//HUD_ALT_LOW_TEXT

Then copy the HUD folder in the F-16´s cockpit folder to the F-5´s cockpit folder.

Guess it's going to need some more work than I thought. Avionics will need to be modernized. If anyone, wants to help me please, raise your hand now.

Some one from Taiwan said that they used a kind of F-5E general called F-5E-G[They called G type,not F-20].

This is a F-5E upgrade,he said this type can carry AIM-7s and AGM-65s and got a HUD same to F-16.

Sundowner/Dave... another excellent job sir :good:

Coolpilot... did you upgrade the avionics on the F-5 using the F-16? (I should give it a try on my other F-5s). I upgraded my F-5EM using the F/A-18 avionics and cockpit, works great!

Posted (edited)

Cool Pilot gave the F-5A the F-5E's cockpit, and an F-16's HUD, and avionics. The F-5A-2000 is supposed to be upgraded to an F-16's cockpit style, so this seems fitting.

EDIT: Thanks Dave
