Rick Rawlings Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Hey Rick, Those are great. Here's one from my first mission with a new pilot tonight. Lined up beautifully on an ACE, and my gun jams!!!! Oh my God! Tell me about it! I swear the bounding box on the N17's Lewis gun is twice the size of everything else on my plane! At least 60% of the time that I am hit at all, the Lewis goes down and I have to bluff my way out of the flight! At least you got a good picture and lived to tell the tale, however! RR Quote
griphos Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 The N17 Lewis is new to me. One of my first flights in it. So, I hadn't experienced what you're suggesting. Very interesting. I very well could have taken hits on the gun while downing the one right before this guy. I might have taken them from THIS GUY! When my gun jammed in the Pup, I could almost always fly around a bit pulling on the trigger occasionally, and when it cooled down, it would start working again and I was back in business. But I chased this guy for a very long time, and all I got from the gun was two or three individual and random bullets for all my trigger yanking and cursing. I'll keep an eye on that. I have to say I'm not crazy about that targeting sight/cone/whatever in the cockpit, but in that second shot, I was lined up to start sawing on the left lower wing all the way through the cockpit to the right lower wingtip if only I could do more than yell curses at him! I don't have a good feeling about this Lewis gun! Quote

I don't have a good feeling about this Lewis gun! Prior to 1.3 it was lined up with the seat and was actually very useful. I actually got a 56% accuracy on a campaign mission shooting down 3 Albatross DIIIs, which I have not even come close to on any other plane. Post patch, you just have to get used to the new hit point, somewhere alolng the lower edge of the sight it seems. I find the F6 view to be largely useless as it is too zoomed in. Overall the Neiuport series are great planes, although I might just be saying that since I have spent 90% of the time since I got this game in RFC #40! RR Quote
griphos Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) RFC40! That's my squad now! I've flown almost exclusively Pups in 8 and 9 RNAS, but in MP, I've wound up in N17s a fair bit and liked the way they flew, so I started a campaign as Mick and he started in 40. I plan to move with him as he did through the war, assuming, of course, I last longer than a few weeks! Any RFC40 tips?! I like how the airfield is so easy to spot in the middle of that marsh/forest whatever it is. And I'll give the Lewis a fair shot. If it helps my percentage, I'm all for it. I'm pretty much a 15-18% man so far. Edited April 7, 2009 by griphos Quote
Schlissefahrt Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) That guy had blue eyes! HA! That, sir, is a line from Memphis Belle! I love that movie, and its a great line, and that is also a great screenshot! :) Edited April 7, 2009 by Schlissefahrt Quote
Red-Dog Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Some nice shots of the terrain detail within the game. This is over Corcieux the french sector. Quote
UK_Widowmaker Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 (edited) Two adversaries meet...two different occasions...Two different results. The first, resulted in me (DVIIF) getting chewed to bits by the Rear Gunner, when I climbed into his Field of Fire, and was forced to make an Emergency landing. Our second meeting, I risked all, by diving straight at him in a swooping pass....although the gunner hit me, I managed to set fire to his fuel tank..... I wouldn't like to be the hapless crew in that furnace!!! Edited April 8, 2009 by UK_Widowmaker Quote
Wels Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Hello, great screenshots. Widowmaker this burning R.E.8 looks really bad , i guess i would indeed rather jump .. Greetings, Catfish Quote

Wels Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Hello, just some screenshots, in no particular order - but showing goodies and problems .. Nice planes ! Escorting Rolands with my Halberstadt. Nice cockpit view, only problem is my Halberstadt gets wet My flight really landed ! They do land, even if it takes time, they make a very loong leg for the last approach. Pilot or observer bailing out - but there's still someone left in the cockpit ? Damage of the wing looks good, i mean it's bad - nice damage modeling ! This Nieuport followed me for some hundred yards flying reverse (!) without losing altitude, shooting and hitting me all the time. Imagine hitting someone in a Nieuport flying reversed ?! Greetings, Catfish Quote
UK_Widowmaker Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 (edited) YUK!...Sliced up by own propeller...shoulda stayed with it!...great damage modelling like you say Wels!...but I have been put off my Bacon Sandwich by that screenie!! Edited April 8, 2009 by UK_Widowmaker Quote
+Paarma Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 (edited) Hey Widowmaker! Where you get that blue swastika fokker!? Did you know that that same blue swastika was used in Finnish airforce during 1918-1945 or even later after ww2? Edited April 8, 2009 by Paarma Quote

Canvas Wings Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Pilot or observer bailing out - but there's still someone left in the cockpit ? Had a similar experience with an FE2 -snuck up low and behind and popped two quick burst into it. It wobbled, a little debris flew off, and though I did see it start to smoke, it must have flamed because both crew members jumped. The Fe lumbered on for another hundred metres or so, then it *did* burst into flame - at which point *another* pilot and observer bailed out. My guess is the Brits are getting low on aircraft and have to double up. Quote
rabu Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 (edited) The Upper Hand Neat shot.. Wels: That second shot of the CP is neat too, looks like you found the "Eyepoint" commands? Edited April 9, 2009 by rabu Quote

Olham Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 My best lasting pilot so far, "Wolf" Mahlo, has many encounters with SPAD XIII. So far, they always lost, except on one occasion, were they outnumbered us terribly, and we were chased back over the lines. But next time, our revenge cost them four more of these planes. Quote

Olham Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 (edited) Wow, Red Dog - hey, Good-lookin'! Just tested a new skin, and had a little tango with SPADs to add salt to the soup. This situation was right after an almost-crash. While I attacked the right fighter, the left SPAD zoomed through my sight inbetween us, large as a barn! Had I seen her coming, she would have got a lethal burst! But my reaction wasn't good enough - it was a nano-second, so to say. For more pics, see skinning thread.
