There is this temptation to speculate on the cause of a tragic event such as this at the time it happens.

Not here, not now.

Keep those speculations to yourself out of respect for those who have died.

My condolences to the Polish people (I'm 1/4 myself; my paternal grandmother came from a village near Warsaw)

He flew the way to the Teheran conference, being escorted by exiled Spanish republican pilots wich served with the Soviets during the war

Its said that is was a pilot error. 4 landing attempts for a airfield covered by fog. Why he does not went to Minsk or Moscow airfields? Who decided to land at Smolensk?

A lot of questions. :salute:

Folks, let me reiterate one more time.

Speculation as to the exact cause of the accident and posting articles critizing the system while the victims have not even been buried yet is in very poor taste.

As someone who has had to put more of my fellow flyers into the ground than I care to count, I take this extremely seriously.

Also, another note...this is a private message board. You have no freedom of speech here...if you cannot deal with that, I suggest you go somewhere else.

I dont believe that is was a crash caused by the plane. The Tu-154 is a safe bird and the polish technicians and pilots are well trained and know their job. Their planes are safe.

The accident is a sad and strange thing.

Whats is know? What are hard facts?

Point 1. The plane crashed and killed all people aboard.

Point 2. The Smolensk airfield was covered by fog.

Point 3. The pilot of the plane was a very skilled, high professional flyer.

Point 4. The tower said, that landing at the Smolensk airfield was not safe and it would be better to go to Minsk or Moscow airfields

Point 5. The pilot made 4 attempts to land.

Point 6. The last attempt failed.

On the first view a typical pilot error.

But,

its also known that on a travel to Georgia (The land in caucasus, not the US state) the polish president Kwashnewski had some times ago said to one of the pilots of the government plane that he made a insubordination if he wont land at a fog covered airfield. The president forced the pilot to land at Tiflis airport, while Tiflis airport was covered by fog. ...

With this in mind ....

I ask me what i would do in the situation of the pilot of the polish plane. Would i land under such no go conditions? Would i have the bravery to say "No Sir!"to the heads of government and military? Would i resist against the urges of the "big bosses" and risk my career?

I dont know.

It's too early to establish cause/facts, not much is known yet. The incident is more complex that the basics which are repeated by the media. That morning three planes were to land at that strip. A Polish Yak-40 did it, a Russian Il-76 failed after multiple attempts (some say it was the Il that did 4 passes, while the Tu was in waiting pattern) and diverted, a Polish Tu-154 is the one we're talking here now. They won't figure out the cause until the flight recorders are decoded.

Guys, let's take it easy with our theories as to why this accident happened. Let it rest for a while.

It wasn't president Kwashnewski.Kwashnewski was polish president since 1995 to 2005. It was president Kaczynski (R.I.P).

That case is difficult, but now I can say that situation was different than that situation which was in Georgia.
