Cali Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Was that a CF-18 doing the Sabre Dance? Damn... Glad he got out okay. Don't worry, man! We have 65 F-35s on the way! Yea, but how long is that gonna take? and who gets the first ones?
+JediMaster Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Not sure about the delivery order, but we're supposedly only 5 yrs away from the A version IIRC.
gosquidgo Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Did you hear the chick at the end of the video? "Was that supposed to happen? Was that the Tora Tora?" Wow, kids these days. Glad the pilot got out ok.
smokey799 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Read in the news today that one of the bystander heard two or three 'pop's right before the crash. Blade failure or ate a bird is my guess... Hope the pilot does okay in the crash investigation. Heard on the radio that he considers his martin-baker ejection seat his new best friend. Does the company still hold the party for user of their product?
Rambler 1-1 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Looked to me like plain old compressor stall. Usually there's a puff of smoke or flame with a bird strike or blade failure. Then again, I have been wrong before. The video on the Global TV Calgary site is a good one, but I can't hear the engines over the Bee-Gees that were playing on the loudspeakers...
Hokum Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Looks to me thet he didn't have enough beans and plain stalled it. The aircraft looked a little unstable just after he nosed up. Glad the pilot escaped ok and didn't land in his own wreckage!
smokey799 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I'll go with Rambler on the compression stall. From what I know about the hornet, it has little In the way of AoA limitations....assuming it has Thrust, it just won't stall - pancake? He'll yes, but not Stall.
