I just wish there was a way to get rid of the fues roundel warpage. Makes me (almost) want to cures Leroy Grumman's shade....

don't forget the various ini mods I've done for the Wildcats/Martlets (like the hand crank sound for the gear and others)

I just wish there was a way to get rid of the fues roundel warpage. ? Is it painted on or a decal, because if it's a decal, I know how to fix it. (Possibly) it's real simple. Invers warp the decal. Simple terms, make the decal a rectangle like 40 X 32 .

The decal on the Nosegear door of the Canberra_Mk20 is 512X128 to make it look right. Took my a bunch of trys to get it right.

fues roundels/star (well, at least mine) for the Wildcat are decal.

so, you're saying, stretch the decal in the vertical plane? or just make the tga "unsquare' (as shown above)?

I had try several different ways to make it work. the black of a tga will stretch to fit the mapping of a mesh, taller black area will force it to compress, making the non transparent area display correctly. On the tga above, the letters are the correct size, but the black is 4x taller. At a guess for the Wildcat, I'd say increase the the hight of the Black by a 1/4, or less. Hopefully the distortion is liner, if not you'll have to play with the roundel shape also. Have fun, took me hours to get the Mk.20 decal correct.

Another contribution to the SAAF air war in East Africa.

Which do you prefer - the Mk I or the Mk Ia Trop?

I think that by the time the SAAF got in combat in 1941 that the Trop was probably right.

2 SAAF Squadron Hawker Fury

Continuing the East Africa theme - 2 SAAF Squadron flew Furies and a couple of Gauntlets in a ground attack role in January 1941.

A bit of an upgrade for my old Fury skin.

post-2351-0-34656400-1445741742_thumb.jpg

The DAT Fury has the horizontal stabilisers and elevators (top and bottom) mapped to the same place on the skin file.  I've corrected it by mapping a decal to the bottom surfaces. It works but its time consuming so is not a recommended solution.

small favor needed..the standard German pilots have their knees bent and will not fit in my mod...can someone modify one with its legs stretched forward so his feet can touch the pedals ?

Ed, check with Geezer, as he has recently done some new pilots for FE2, they could be "adapted"

Contact me by PM and maybe we can work something out.  I have WW2 RAF and Regia Aeronautica pilots that could probably be adapted to fit your cockpit.  I'll see if I can make a quickie adaptation for a German pilot.

Try this and see if it drops into your model OK.  If not, send me your model in obj or 3ds format and I'll adjust the arms and legs to fit your cockpit.

This caught me at just the right time.  I've decided to make some pilots and gunners for Veltro - it's a nice diversion from my usual desert stuff.

Progress shot below shows first attempt to fit a pilot to his aircraft model.  This is more difficult than it appears because we have different versions of 3dsMax, and the .max files are not compatible.  We are using an intermediate format as a workaround, but some scale/size data is lost so there's a lot of tweaking required.

Looks fantastic :bowdown2:

Check your PM.  We have a size issue - the pilot roughly matches the controls, but looks too small for the rest of the cockpit.

Amazed at your work, Geezer.  Stunning.  The pilot is terrific - I'd like to see more of that bomber

Ed -

I scaled your complete aircraft model to fit published dimensions, then merged one of my SCW figures who was carefully scaled to be 6 feet tall.  Using the SCW figure as a guide, I sized the new pilot figure, and then dropped him into your cockpit.

He fits well for the most part - the armor protects his head and his hands reach the control yoke.  The only rough spot is the rudder pedals seem too close to the pilot's seat.  The pilot's pose is ergonomically good - not perfect, but good - so my first reaction would be to extend the rudder pedals forward.  What do you think?

I just sent Veltro2K a 3D model layout for his new figures, and also posted figure LODs in the SF2 download section.
