The basic problem with humans these days is they have no honor, and they know no shame.punish.gif

The last time I checked, when the perceived demand increases, so does price, regardless of the reason the demand increased. They don't sell her music because they like her or respect her, they only value her for the profits she can bring. Unfortunately, like Michael Jackson, she is worth more to them dead than alive. Death can instantly restore a rejected pedophile into a hallowed king of pop in the name of cash, so it is no surprise that Whitney could be so easily exploited given that all she really did was pick a lousy husband and fall into the usual substance abuse/rehab profile of so many celebrities. The beauty of the internet is that consumer backlash traveled fast and brought the prices back down to normal--but they managed to make some sales at the inflated price. Sony: reputation down, gross profits up.

I don't have a problem with it, mainly because...

On a related subject (SOPA)...Karl Denninger::

Of course we enable this sort of jackbooted crap by continuing to buy their products -- whether they be computer software, video games, songs or movies.

There's enough struggling new no~name artists out there to support and many don't use megacorps.

I refuse to buy SONY products, except for the sensor in Pentax's K-5 camera.

Fittingly, Pentax got better performance out of the SONY sensor than SONY could in its own sony cameras. If two cameras share the same sensor, the firmware makes or breaks the sensor.

Maybe instead of getting all outraged that Apple raise the prices on some dead has-been's record you could get outraged at the fact they use what amounts to slave labour to manufacture those precious Iphones and Ipads.

Of course, for online music there is no supply limitation. Every person on the planet could DL a copy of the songs and they'd still be there tomorrow, no delay to "manufacture" another digital copy.

Strange capitalism rings.

Usually it rings with: "Hey give us your money because we caused you loose your job to slave labor, collapsed the market and got insanely rich by pyramidal fraud with no legal consequences so we can do it all over again, yeah baby yeah"

That's how "capitalism" rings for the past few years on the Wall Street which I officially call the "Western Red Square" as they are the largest socialist on this planet right now.

As for the original topic that actually is what can be called capitalism, they are legally offering what they got through perfectly legal business contracts, if somebody else can make a better offer it is free to do so, vote for or against that decision with your money, just pay proper taxed and that's it - that's the point of our economy(or atleast it used to be before...)

Yep, just the famous old banking communism: "What is yours is mine, what is mine is mine."

Brain:: Wall Street = Red Square. Interesting. The banks did finance Leon Trotsky in the lead up to 1917. But the corrupted .gov has to be held accountable for allowing that. Canada arrested Trotsky on his way back to euro, but Washington ordered his releace. Reminds me of Delenn+Kosh telling Sheridan, to paraquote Delenn, "Trotsky must be releaced." -- one of my fave babblesodes because of its revelation of cosmic scope.

I don't think I ever heard anyone call Morden "Trotsky" before.

I must have missed the part where anyone was forced to buy it.

Indeed. The tone of some of the comments seems to imply that the evil corporations, who invested the capital to be able to provide the products and services, somehow pushed the products to the offended parties' computers and automatically billed their accounts.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

If someone no likee the price of the product, they don't have to buy it!

Higher demand drives higher prices. If the demand drops, then so do the prices. Free markets are highly dynamic.

I thought the advocacy somewhere above that a company raising their prices somehow justifies product piracy to be reprehensible.

:stop:

I understand the concept of supply and demand...don't have a problem with that!....but instead of 'cashing in' on someone's death...these poor little hard done by..look at the horrible pirates stealing all our money, companies..would do themselves far better PR by releasing a few of her songs free on itunes

I suppose this whole discussion is academic, isn't it? I understand the points about corporate greed vs supply/demand, free will market purchase, whatever... But, from a practical point of view, given the tone of this discussion, I seriously doubt anyone here would ever actually buy Whitney Houston's music... :dntknw:

You are right atleast concerning me, I'm furious at the way economy "works" today, at it's inefficiency, unreasonable hostility towards the people, liberal stances that brought us here overall and yada yada yada....

So yes, I can't wait to spit and pi** on corporations whenever I can while it's still legal to say anything against them and NOT end up in privatized jails for blasphemy...

Although like I also said I see no problem here, legally seizing the opportunity couldn't be more old school capitalism and that is something I actually like...

Theoretically, higher priced HW music after her death could allow those who really want it to pay more than those who don't want it as much, thus reserving her work for those who want it most. I'd guess WH fans can all afford the music no matter the price, not sure, I never listened to her.

At a local farmer market, there is a local chicken egg producer who always would run out of eggs before I could get there, and recently running out BEFORE the market on weekends. Pissed me off. He'd take "reservations" and I call BS on it. Rather cheap eggs too, less than others, cos he says its part "hobby." Result:: no eggs for me, since I don't want to wank around with "reservations" but just show up and buy, olde school. I told him to raise prices until he stops running out of eggs by the end of the market day.

He did it. :salute: Suddenly, there were enough eggs for me, and everybody else who wanted them. The other day I got a few cartons and he thanked me profusely because now he is making more, while at the same time, not running out until near the market end.

Then I had to test his understanding of Life, so I asked what happens if he starts to have eggs left over. He said he would adjust©® prices I said NO you lower prices. He was too afraid to use the word "lower." Anyways, I got my eggs now Happy like PiG in Slop.
