zzzspace 2 Posted August 30, 2012 lol ... yeah, I remember the day this happened, was during a joint amphib exercise at Shoalwater Bay. Pity we didn't have the guy around the day stone-axes were invented, he could have saved us from several major kafuffles. Better late than never though. +Piecemeal 450 Posted August 30, 2012 AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (catches breath) What a f*cking fruitcake tosspot!!!!! We had a bunch of tree hugging nutjobs who did something similar down the road from me at Shannon Airport some years back when he got through the perimeter fence and attacked the landing gear of a C-130 with an axe. Another time they did the same only this time they spray painted peace slogans on the Hercs. .......... Sigh ............
JRP1973 5 Posted August 30, 2012 So much for aircraft security.
FastCargo 412 Posted August 30, 2012 Nah, I have the better story. In 2000 I was working an airshow in British Columbia and these guys the day before had thrown some sheep's blood on a F-15E. No biggie, washes off with water. Now, the next day these guys were going to be there, but they were going to be escorted by police so as not to cause any real problems. So I'm standing there in front of my aircraft when a police officer shows up and informs me that these guys want to do a little 'sing in'. Well, I don't object to anyone's right to protest so long as it doesn't cause physical or bodily harm or gets seriously in the way of folks trying to make a living. So I stood nearby, but out of the way, while they did their little 'sing in' in front of my aircraft....very earnest folks. I was tempted to stand in the video they were filming holding a beer, but probably would have looked bad being that I was in my flight suit. Anyway, they did their thing and moved on...I found out later that other than the Strike Eagle, we were the only ones protested in front of that day. I can understand why of course. My aircraft was jet black with blood red insignia, with a occupied center pylon, and a streamlined pipe pointing directly out of the nose. Of course, I didn't have the heart to tell them the strongest armament I can carry on my T-38A is harsh language...working in a squadron where the only thing the other aircraft carries are sensors...not even lasers. FC PS What's sad about the whole thing is these protests are misguided. Typically, all that you do is cost taxpayer money while doing nothing about the polices. If you want to protest, protest at the source...politicians.
RogerSmith 72 Posted August 30, 2012 like a 100 years old and this is how you spend your retirement (assuming he ever worked at all) What he does would only inflict pain on the taxpayers, I'ma stick my size 11s where the sun don't shine.
SayethWhaaaa 245 Posted August 31, 2012 Goddamn fundie A-holes. He's tried this crap before, even threatening to attack an airport with parked US and RAAF aircraft. I'd like to have seen the Adgies turn a blind eye and let the US security deal with him. Now I'm a moderate. Compared to a lot of people here, I'm a weed smoking, gay marriage for whales loving, tree hugging hippie. I don't like how we got involved with certain conflicts, but to 'protest' like this requires some serious dumb, the kind you only find in religious fundamentalists, or a youtube comments section. If you need proof of his intellectual impediments, he insists he disarmed the helo, despite touching none of the weapons systems and missing the obvious gun looking thing completely (despite being roughly a metre away from it!). But what can you expect from a nutjob. They don't think. Ever. Queensland has a long history of throwing the book at people for even minor transgressions, I'm pretty sure they won't martyr him by giving him 10 years, but I'd be interested to see what he gets on top of his 200K fine. In an unrelated incident a few days after this, an ADF soldier suffered serious burns after his portable dunny exploded when he tried to have a smoke on the throne... +Gepard 11,356 Posted August 31, 2012 Its astonishing for me, that such an old guy was able to penetrate the outer skin of the Tiger in cockpit area with a simple axe. I always thought that a combat helicopter should withstand rounds till 12,7mm calibre but this crazy aussi showed us the contrary.
fallenphoenix1986 603 Posted August 31, 2012 Not necessarily, he dinged some composite skin panels there could be an armoured tub/plate underneath these. Craig

Slartibartfast 153 Posted August 31, 2012 If I remember correctly the Tiger cockpit like a bathtub built from Titanium like the A-10 all he did was damage the outer panels... and he is a fecking idiot. If Australia went to war he would be clamouring for the Australian Armed forces to defend his right to not be at war!!!
zzzspace 2 Posted September 1, 2012 I've seen it from another angle as there were media present. If you listen to the part where he's cutting the chain a woman says, "what a hero, you're a real dick mate". The 'security' contracted to 'guard' such fences and gates have no legal power to do anything physical to a trespasser. Even the diggers had to take care not to man-handle him. Not even an Alsatian there to greet him.
