LightningIII Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) OK so I was driving down the Meritt Parkway in Connecticut and got stuck in traffic on the bridge next to the Sikorsky factory, so I took out the telephoto lens to see what I could see. There wasn't much activity, but one helo was outside being worked on. It looked like some kind of test rig - to my eyes, it looks like a funky kind of blackhawk, but I don't know. It has sponson tanks like a pave low and lacks a door gunner window. It has presidential looking paint like a VH-60 (Marine One, green with white stripe), perhaps that's what it is? I.E. a VIP modifed blackhawk? Which would explain the fuel tanks (extra range) and lack of door gunner (don't want to scare people by flying over homes with a a M134 minigun). Ideas? PS: sorry about the black poles - the place is fenced in and I was outside said fence (obviously). Edited September 2, 2012 by eaglef15strike
LightningIII Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) I think that's a prototype CH-148 Cyclone. Cool - I had never even heard of that! But that still doesn't explain the paint scheme. Edited September 2, 2012 by eaglef15strike
+daddyairplanes Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 work was being done on a new Marine One. got cancelled shortly after a certain Democrat took office. 1

Sikorsky S-92...I think. Yep definitely the S-92, not the new executive helicoper. Pic from Wikipedia: Yup. Definitely. Edited September 2, 2012 by eaglef15strike
+JediMaster Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 S-92 ran for and lost the competition. Would it have been cancelled had the S-92 won? It certainly would've been fought for harder.
+JediMaster Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I don't know, but I can picture Jamie Farr in drag at the controls!
Derk Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Ts the camouflaged prototype for the new model 1945 Jeep :) Edited September 7, 2012 by Derk
Sheriff001 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Identify this Helicopter. What helicopter?
+Stratos Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 IIRC that was powerless. It simply glided to the landing place. But I can be wrong.
Sheriff001 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 But you're not wrong this time. That is no helicopter.
