I believe ejection system on helicopters is somewhat a recent concept, only operational in Kamov Ka-50 (if I'm not mistaken).

It's always very sad when this happens.

RIP to the deceased.

They had no chance at all.  They were downed with a US made TOW missile. Usage of counter measures were futile...

The other chopper reported, and of radio chatter. But not yet confirmed yet. The pilots were instructors and were flying on a test flight, while they were alerted of enemy presence to assist. With them two, russian casualties reached 10.

The video sequence shows a hit on tail rotor or on tail fin.

It happend during an attack with unguided tockets on ground targets. Russian sources claim, that the third fired S-5 had a fail function, stuck in the launch container UB-32 and the fin-ring of the rocket was pushed out backwarts and hit the tailrotor. The Mi-25 started to spin, what was an undoubtly sign of tail rotor loss, and crashed.

The video sequence show no indication that the Mi-25 was hit with ATGM.

That makes sense. I was looking for any sign of ground to air and didn't see anything.

If the fin ring struck the tail, where did the pretty large explosion came from. There is no fuel in the tail. It was a rather strong explosion. Maybe from a large anti aircraft shell (57mm)...

Makes a lot more sense than being hit by a TOW.

Life sucks sometimes.

RIP.

Looks to me like part of the failed rocket flew back and hit the tail, and it was the rocket that exploded. It wasn't just a FOD hit on the tail, it was explosive FOD.
