Could this be due to a corrupt installation of the Thirdwire games, or a missing game since they need all of them? Would it be possible for the installer to verify the existence of all the correct paths and excutables before it installs and maybe report back if something is missing or out of place? E

That would save a lot of problems IMHO to make sure that you can't install it until you have the right games to use the mod.

I think it's pretty complex to implement, at least for me, since Inno Setup makes use of Pascal language (not exactly what I'm into). What the installer does automatically is find where the SF2 game directory is (but it does not verify if all three games are in it). To run a check on all required .CAT archives is problematic to say the least; we have so many versions of SF2 (including the Complete Edition which only installs one registry key, not all separate ones of all included games), some do clean installations from the latest July 2013 installers, others install outdated versions and then apply the latest patches afterwards. To verify checksums of those CAT archives is simply not possible given these circumstances, I think they would differ in the case of manually patched games.

Anyway, this issue is only related to elo82 as far as I can see. Most issues that were reported are about CTDs, and those are due to DX10 and Nvidia drivers. I state pretty clearly which SF2 games are required (inside the installer, in the download page and even on the custom DVD cover I created). Thankfully most users are not dummies and can read. In the future I may look into it, maybe add some more checks for the presence of the SF2 executables of the required games (though that alone does not suffice), but now I'm too demotivated to work on it once more all by myself. That being said, thank you for your detailed suggestion, Erik!

Over a year passed since this mod was released and I still enjoy it like the first day thanks to the wide variety of planes to fly there. :good:

Thanks to all involved in the project! :clapping:

The only thing I added to my install was French and Italian speech for those nations, just to have more immersion when flying for those countries.

I took them from here in combatace:

You might want to check my Speech Enhancement mod, in there I include other languages (including Italian, but no French) with correct or mostly correct dubbing. The mod you linked adds mostly random phrases in such languages, as such it is only for immersion and far from being correct for native speakers (I'm Italian BTW). As such, I won't include such random dubbing in ODS for quality consistency.

Thank you for the positive comment! They are a rarity these days, so we're glad to hear others are enjoying our hard work! Take care. :drinks:

Greetings, this modpack i have to say its great it really elevates the strike fighter 2 experience.Although even though it worked firstly i started having issues like missing textures and CTD's and now it has reached a point where it loads to cockpit and immediately crashes i tried lowering the graphics i even reinstalled but nothing changed.I know that the mod requires a kind of strong pc and i kind of have it.I have a desktop with an AMD Ryzen 7 3800 ,GTX1050Ti ,16Gb ram and an 1TB SSD any help appreciated.

You could try making sure that it uses the video card. That's one issue I had but it may need to be setup with the mod using the graphics card. It should do it automatically but may be the reason why if you've changed settings and the like.

Thanks for replying and I only have my GPU because my processor doesn't have integrated graphics. Also I would like to note that when I first played I could run it on unlimited graphics with no issues at the beginning least .

Have been playing SF2 Europe, and North Atlantic for ages. Saw someone post some screen shots from SF2 on FB, and didn't realize there was still such a community about it and it still being supported.

So I come here and find this Gulf War mod, and I was like YES, give me some of that. So I set out to reinstall a fresh copy. No where to be found. Got logged into Thirdwire to find that I could re-download (as I had purchased them years ago), SF2, SF2 Israel, North Atlantic and the SF2 update.

Had no idea I had ever bought the Israel mod, don't remember playing it, so I have that to go through as well....but this Desert Storm mod (can I really call it a mod? Practically a whole brand new game), and I am hooked again! Campaigns using Jaguars, Tornados, Buccs, OV-10Bronco?!?!?!? And of course since I am Canadian, CF-18.

All I can say AWESOME! And thank you to Menrva (and anyone else involved in this) for the pain staking details you have put into this!!!

OK, maybe dumb question, but is there a Night Vision mode? I thought there was, but can't seem to find it in the controls. Maybe I was dreaming.

You're dreaming, SF2 never had true night vision capability.

Thanks to you for the very kind words! Indeed, all of us in the team have worked much on it, with quality and historical accuracy as our main aim.

Sadly SF2 does not even support true IR images for DTVs in cockpit.

Someone in ThirdWire's Discord server is playing around with ReShade (a suite of third-party effects, a post-processing injector) in order to enable a NVG-like green filter in-game by key press. It's not an ideal solution, but I may consider it for a future update.

Just recently played the A-6E TRAM and had some issues with the pylons for the AGM-45 Shrike. Are there sub pylons modeled? If so then they aren't showing

Does anyone think that the (sun light) glare effect is too much? From some angles there is too much glare, is there any value to reduce?

Hello, great mod!, love it so far, a question please, does anybody has a huge slowdown in the game when selecting laser guided weapons like paveways and mavericks??, and if so, how to solve it?, it's not game breaking, but a little annoying.

Thanks in advance!, and thanks for this great work.

I'm running everything in low in the graphic settings and so fast is smooth, only problem is when selecting these weapons, when fired, the slowdown goes away for the mavericks, but not for the paveways, external view also doesnt have the slowdown.

Any help is appreciated.

Could be that this is due to additional 'video' inside the cockpit.

Is this in every Maverick-capable aircraft or some particular one?

Try to look into desired aircraft avionics.ini  and check values

RadarTextureSize=512
TVDisplayTextureSize=512

try to set them to 256 and observe if this changed anything.

Hello, i have a weird issue, i dont know if any of you guys know about it, seen it, or know how to fix it.

In campaing, i start the game, and launch a mission, plane texture is OK.

Secon mission, the external texture of the plane model is black, like if it is lost, and it looks horrible.

Some of you have encountered this and know how to fix it or the cause?

Thank you.

Sounds hardware related, try testing at lower in-game resolution settings. Since there's no diagnostic data to review it's impossible to know if this is a processor memory issue, video memory issue, page file issue, or a combination.

Unfortunately, after further testing, it turns out this is due to the effects folder, rather big out of necessity. It puzzles me a bit as it should be totally unrelated, but it seems it is not. The game is bounded to 32bit, as such it is more limited in handling so many extra effects. There's no easy fix on the horizon.

View File [Fictional] McDonnell Douglas Phantom F-4L (USMC)
McDonnell Douglas F-4L (USMC/USN) Phantom for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
This is a simple mod of the stock Third Wire F-4M_75 to give a fictional USMC Phantom F-4L with markings for VMFA-333 'Shamrocks'. Also included is a USN VF-111 scheme that generally uses stock decals but is included here to give a blank F-4L tail for you to do other squadrons by using stock decals. It goes without saying that you will need to have the F-4M_75 from SF2:Europe.

      BACKSTORY
With all the considerable design effort being put into the marriage of the Phantom airframe and the Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engine McDonnell Douglas thought it might be a good idea to propose a version to the US Navy to allow the Phantom to operate from the smaller carriers that were limited to F-8E Crusaders. In June 1966 the designation F-4L was given to the proposed Spey-powered Phantom and in October 1966 an initial order for 130 F-4L's (USN/USMC) was made, followed by an unexpected export order of 30 F-4L's for the Royal Australian Navy.
Deliveries to the US Navy commenced in February 1969 with VF-24 becoming the first operational squadron followed by VMFA-333. By this time the wisdom of operating such a relatively large aircraft on the older, smaller carriers was being questioned and most F-4L's served aboard the larger carriers or with land-based units.
When the decision was made not to re-equip the USMC 'fighter-attack' Phantom squadrons with the hugely expensive Grumman F-14A Tomcat, McDonnell Douglas pushed hard for low-rate production of the F-4L to continue specifically for USMC use and they were eventually successful meaning that production continued until 1976 with an eventual total of 306 F-4L's being built. Apart from Australia, F-4L's also served with the Royal Air Force where 15 ex-USN F-4L's were sold to the UK Government to allow the formation of an additional home-based Phantom squadron to release a squadron for the defence of the Falkand Isles.

      INSTRUCTIONS
      1. From the AIRCRAFT folder drag and drop the F-4L_75 folder into your Aircraft folder.
      2. From the DECALS folder drag and drop the F-4L_75 folder into your Decals folder.
      That's it!

      CREDITS
As always, thanks to Third Wire for a great little game/sim.
And, finally, thanks to everyone in the wider Third Wire community.

      Notes about the installer
Beware, the mod is available only in the ISO format. You can either mount it on a virtual drive, burn it on a DVD like in the good old days, or unzip it with 7-Zip or equivalent software.
The installer will automatically detect your installation of the required Strike Fighters 2 games by reading through the registry keys. Game folders that are copied from or manually moved from where they were originally installed are not supported. You need all three aforementioned Strike Fighters 2 games and they must be installed with ThirdWire's original installers, not manually copied from other sources nor moved elsewhere after installation to other folders or drives. If you do not meet any of these requirements, installation cannot proceed and you are on your own. If you install all required games properly, the installation of the mod will proceed correctly as intended. The installer then lets you choose where to install the mod folder; you can even install the mod on a different drive or partition than the one where Strike Fighters 2 is installed. No further user input nor manual edits after installation are ever required; the installer takes care of creating all proper links to your desired path for the mod folder. After installation is over, simply run the mod by using the created Desktop and/or Start Menu links.
If you have a previous version of the mod installed, please use the uninstaller to remove it completely. Clean installation is mandatory. You might want to make a backup of the Controls folder, so that you can easily restore your controller settings afterwards.

      Suggestions on common issues
Make sure that you are using your dedicated GPU. By default, Strike Fighters 2 usually selects the integrated GPU you may have on your CPU, which is much weaker in terms of VRAM. In case you have frequent crashes or black/missing textures, I highly suggest you download and install the DXVK graphics wrapper (x86 DLLs) into your Strike Fighters 2 game folder: https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk. You need a Vulkan-compatible GPU. The wrapper can greatly improve the experience with the mod. With DXVK I can play the mod on a mere Intel UHD 710, whereas without it the mod would always crash to desktop. Go to Sound and set Sound Channels to 32. We got reports that 16 is not enough and will cause crashes on some systems, due to the higher quality sounds included within the mod. The mod is pretty heavy for the game engine despite huge optimizations. Strike Fighters 2's engine is 32bit only and apparently does not manage VRAM properly; consecutive campaign missions might show black/missing textures on objects or cause crashes to desktop because the game does not release the occupied VRAM from the previous mission you played, thus the more missions are loaded consecutively, the more easily you may run out of memory. Set Ground Objects to Medium or Low, Horizon Distance to Near, and Shadows to Medium or Low. These are the most troubling settings. Avoid Unlimited settings as much as possible. If the mod used to work and suddenly crashes to desktop, updating or reinstalling video drivers should help. Make sure that DirectX June 2010 Redistributables are also installed, they are included inside the ISO disk image of the mod. Inside the mod folder, you'll find some extra text files. "(Coalition Order of Battle)" should be of your interest; the mod's terrain covers the entirety of Iraq, at the cost of not having all of Saudi Arabia; this means that a number of important units are based on airbases that are beyond the in-game playable area. With those units you always spawn near the target area, you'll never get to start from a runway nor to land on the assigned runway beyond the invisible wall. You have an entire list of the affected units in the aforementioned text file. By pressing ALT+N, the plane returns to base automatically. The mod is fully compatible with the Campaign Customizer and Mission Editor DLCs by ThirdWire. The Campaign Customizer might be an alternative way to experience those off map units I mentioned previously, since it assigns you to a random airbase of the in-game flyable area. Escort missions are often broken, this is not an issue of the mod, but a bug of the stock game; sometimes the AI flight you escort does not engage its target and keeps flying in a straight line instead of following waypoints, thus the trigger for mission success will never happen. Abandon the mission or retry it if the issue happens, sometimes it works. Pray for ThirdWire AKA Tsuyoshi Kawahito to work on a 64bit version of Strike Fighters 2, maybe even with support for DirectX 12. With that done, any out of memory issues should become an old memory.
