It is known that MiG-21bis operates R-25 engine which introduces an emergency high thrust operation mode. This mode produces about 96.5 KN (22.000 lbs) of thrust and almost matches the french M53-P2 engine which was introduced almost a decade later! I was wondering if we can introduce this feature. Enabling this mode even for short periods of seconds during a close dogfight, MiG-21bis will be transformed to a very challenging opponent especially when armed with R-13M/R-60K missiles. This mode should have a time limit cause the thermal stress being produced by this mode overheats the engine and extended use may cause engine explosion.

I think it may have already been incorporated or was being worked on years back into some mods remember the discussion.

It isn't 22,000 lbs because that is the figure for Emergency thrust at sea level flying at Mach 1 (as stated in the manual).

MiG-21bis with R25-300

Static max AB output  = 6850 kgf

Static Emergency / second reheat = 7100 kgf

Hi

Flogger23 has some MiG-21 in development and I know there's something to reproduce this feature (I did it lol )
with overheating and engine explosion when used for too long.

And how one can simulate that ?

Just to say... and adding a sort of  "fake engine" with specific entries ? :ninja:

Edit : time is missing to test but I think we could start from the example of the F-86H propulsion data.

Well, I think I can show you an example with a little hot-rod I made for fun

Throttle at 99%

Throttle at 100%

It doesn't really give an advantage when dogfighting but it sure helps to runaway in a "F-104 style".
The good thing is the wingmen use it all the time.

Like Coupi said above, try looking at the F-86E/F/H engine sections. Fubar did a kind of 'fake engine' for the extra power thingy.
