It's not your fault -- we've been having issues with the board's software for several months. I took care it :)

thanks bob,  but what do you think of my open source SF idea?

I do not have access to the link

But this is an interesting project

Ideas are cool but feasibility is what counts, and here I see none. Unless we get a source code by TK, remaking a game with from scratch (or even by porting all SF2 assets into a new engine) and with all those ideas/features would require an expert team of developers working on it for several years. And to have it for free, after all such amount of work is also not a realistic choice, time is money.

Hi buccaneer,

Sounds a bit like what the EAW community attempted to do. I've been a code group member for a short time after which I went my own way with EAW's source code. First of all we all had to learn C++ in order to understand the code and additionally I unravelled most of the hex code and disassembly of the EXE linking many tables to the source and figuring out their formats.

We started this in 2005 when the source code was handed to us and if you're familiar with the game you may understand what was achieved and what not. I'm still working on it with the source by my side and without further help. I couldn't have done much without the code, not even with the knowledge of various computer languages in my skill set.

I agree with previous remarks about needing a skilled team with good knowledge about flight models, physics & lots of time and money. I wish I could be of further help but EAW still consumes 80% of my life. Good luck with your effort!

I forgot to mention that expert knowledge about the Windows Kernel, DirectX and graphics cards are also required. Couldn't access the link either

Want to make something useful to everyone even if that particular effort fails ?
Start with a Wiki documenting the various files and file structures, how they're organized, formatted, what the format is, what the expected values are, what the values represent. Build a reference, let all modders contribute their years of experience, and build upon it.
Ideally see with Eric if that can be hosted here, so this becomes a community project that might survive a failure of your own project.

i am planning to create an open source version of strike fighters!

well, i need some help to get this project done....

i have made a plan of what it should include!

i know it seems rather stupid for me to do, as strike fighters already exists, but i would love to Add to the military flight simmer community!

Open Source Strike Fighters - Global Combat Simulator (SF-GCS)_.pdf

Linky no worky

Anyway yeah it'd be cool, maybe breathe new life into the game, especially with a multiplayer setup. That's like needed with all these aircraft we got...
